Guidelines on How to be an Effective Chat Moderator

CORRECT STANDARD ENGLISH
GRAMMAR

Why do we need to observe proper grammar?

We communicate with targets of different nationalities.
Using proper Standard English grammar minimizes
confusion and misunderstanding, giving way to seamless
conversation.
Grammar mistakes we must AVOID
1. Filipinism - This is a giveaway that the player's profile is moderated. Targets who are
aware of this will lose interest right away.
2. Spelling - Misspelled words that can alter the whole meaning and thought of the
sentence. Example:
semen = seman (check photos above)
3. Your vs You're / It's vs Its / There vs Their vs They're

These are some of the common mistakes that can severely affect the thought of your
messages.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

The Basics
Spell it right!
There are tools at your disposal to ensure you don’t
misspell things.

Grammarly, anyone?
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Capitalization and Punctuation Marks

“I” is always capitalized. Never forget

It.

Use the correct punctuation marks at the end of each sentence.

“.” for narrative sentences.
“?” for questions.
“!” For exclamatory sentences.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Subject-Verb Agreement Errors

The subject and verb of a sentence must agree with one another in number whether
they are singular or plural. If the subject of the sentence is singular, its verb must also
be singular; and if the subject is plural, the verb must also be plural.

Example:
Incorrect: An important part of my life have been the people who stood by me.
Correct: An important part of my life has been the people who stood by me.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Sentence Fragments
Sentence fragments are incomplete sentences that don’t have one independent clause. A
fragment may lack a subject, a complete verb, or both. Sometimes fragments depend on
the proceeding sentence to give it meaning.

Example:
Incorrect: He gave his mother an extravagant gift after the argument. In spite of
everything.
Correct: In spite of everything, he gave his mother an extravagant gift after the
argument.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Missing Comma After Introductory Element

A comma should be used after an introductory word, phrase, or clause. This gives the
reader a slight pause after an introductory element and often can help avoid confusion.

Example:
Incorrect: In case you haven’t noticed my real name doesn’t appear in the article.
Correct: In case you haven’t noticed, my real name doesn’t appear in the article.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Misusing The Apostrophe With “Its”

You use an apostrophe with it’s only when the word means it is or
it has. Without the apostrophe, its means belonging to it.

Example:
Incorrect: I don’t believe its finally Friday.
Correct: I don’t believe it’s (it is) finally Friday.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Wrong Word Usage

There are a variety of words and phrases that are commonly confused and misused in
sentences. Using them incorrectly can change the meaning of the sentence or simply
reflect carelessness on the writer’s part. There are hundreds of these commonly
confused words, so when in doubt, always check the definition and correct spelling of
the word.

Example:
Incorrect: It was a breathe of fresh air to meet someone so genuine.
Correct: It was a breath of fresh air to meet someone so genuine.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Your vs. You're

The difference between these two is owning something versus actually
being something:

You made it around the track in under a minute -- you're fast!

How's your fast going? Are you getting hungry?
See the difference? "Your" is possessive and "you're" is a contraction of
"you are."
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Who vs. That

This one is tricky. These two words can be used when you're describing
someone or something through a phrase like, "Lindsay is a blogger who
likes ice cream." When you're describing a person, be sure to use "who."
When you're describing an object, use "that." For example, you should say,
"Her computer is the one that overheats all the time." It's pretty simple, but
definitely something that gets overlooked frequently.
COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES WE
SHOULD AVOID

Farther vs. Further

People often use "farther" and "further" interchangeably to mean "at a greater distance."
However, in most countries, there are actually subtle differences in meaning between
the two. "Farther" is used more to refer to physical distances, while "further" is used
more to refer to figurative and nonphysical distances. So while Paris is "farther" away
than Madrid, a marketing team falls "further" away from its leads goal. (Note: The
word "further" is preferred for all senses of the word in the U.K., Australia, Canada, and
elsewhere in the Commonwealth of Nations.)
The word "further" can also be used as an adjective or as an adverb to mean
"additionally." For example, "I have no further questions."
UPDATE THE LOGBOOKS

The logbook is a reference that Moderators use to ensure continuity in conversations.

Remember:
Use the correct pre-set categories for each entry.
Update both the player’s and the target’s logbooks.
Use appropriate keywords when logging information.
Example:
NUDE PHOTO
Incorrect: Target sent a picture. (What picture?)
Correct: Target sent a selfie at a farm.
Incorrect
Category
HOW TO:
Properly Use The
Logbook

X Not logging important

information!
WHAT TO PUT IN THE LOGBOOK?

EMAIL/PHONE NUMBER IN THE COMMENT BOX)

 Profession/study: past jobs, position, tenure, educational attainment, work schedule,

ABOUT MEET-UPS
DON’Ts
Initiate a meet-up, a date, or any means of meeting in person.
Examples:
“I would like to see you in person (time, date, location).
“Would you come see me?”
“Please, come here and let’s have dinner.”
“I’ll wait for you at the Eiffel Tower, just like in the movies.”

Agree to a meet-up, a date, or any means of meeting in person.

Examples:
“Okay, maybe next time I can come see you. I’m usually free on weekends.”
“Yes, I would love to go out with you. Give me time to fix my schedule this week. Where
do we go?”
“ Sure. I’ll find time off work and I’ll let you know when. I’ve been really busy lately.”
MESSAGING TIP
INITIATING = Moderator is asking and setting a date.
AGREEING = Moderator is saying yes to a date invitation.

What is not allowed :

Mod initiating a meet-up.

Example:
Hey Target. I would love to go out with you soon. Maybe we can have dinner and have
sex in my condo. Tuesday okay with you?
(there is initiation, definite time, and place)

Mod saying yes to a meet-up.

Example:
Mod: Okay sure. Let's meet soon. Maybe in a bar or your condo. Tuesday would be great.
What do you think?
What is acceptable :
Mod giving an excuse to get around pressures of meet-ups
Example:
Target: I really want to see you. I cannot keep on just chatting. Tuesday okay with you?
Mod: Meeting up sounds like a lovely plan. However, I can't. I have work and I wish I
could but I'm just so swamped. Soon, honeybunch. Let me see what I can do. I bet you
smell great in person. I love the smell of fresh aftershave on men. What kind do you use?

! The best way to go about this is to use engaging & flirty questions to divert the
conversation.
ABOUT PHOTOS
Due to the limited available photos in the player’s gallery, sending attachments will be regulated.
Send photos sparingly and only during these instances:

1. Target is adamant is asking for a photo and there are photos available in the gallery.
2. The target is losing interest in the conversation and you think a photo will get him to engage
again in a conversation.
3. A new conversation where a target sent you a photo for exchange.
4. A photo hasn’t been sent in over a week.

If the conversation can continue without using photos, try and reserve the photos for these
scenarios instead.
If there are no photos available, be creative with your alibis.

Reminder: Never forget to log any exchange of photos.

DO YOU LOVE HIM?

Saying “I love you” is acceptable only when the situation warrants it.
Do not say “I love you” to a stranger you just barely had a conversation with.
Although proclamations of love can be a good tactic to keep the targets’ interest,
but it can also put you in a position of giving false hope.
It is best to avoid it if you can and assess the situation if it is warranted.

Instead of “I love you "or“ I want to marry you”, moderators have an array of
statements to use instead. Examples:
“ I feel connected to you.”
“You make me feel like no one else.”
“We’re like Kismet! Meant to be.”
“I really like you.”
THE MAJORS
THE CARDINAL RULES OF MESSAGING. BREAK IT AND YOU’RE DONE.
Violation of these rules will result to immediate account
deactivation and operator will not be paid for services rendered.

1. SPAMMING : Sending links or invites to targets for other sites and or platforms for
whatever reason. IE Facebook likes, Instagram, email or promotional webpages.
2. SOLICITATION: Asking targets for money or monetary donations; Asking targets
for their credit card details; asking for gifts.
3. Telling targets about being an operator or the player profile is fictional.
4. Engaging with targets that are minor.
5. Engaging in talks of criminal activities or suicide.
6. Initiating contact outside the platform. Asking for targets’ contact information and
addresses is prohibited.
NO. NO. NO.

7. Sending of duplicate messages, use of templates, & repetitive phrases and

words will get your accounts deactivated right away.

Please refer to the video tutorial Ms. Pie gave us.

QA
What does it really take to get that high score?
We studied the way operators who got a perfect score of 10 go about their messages
and one thing is prevalent:
REPEAT TARGETS.

How do we do this?

1. Creativity is a must. Make sure your messages are engaging and thought provoking.
Be fun, be flirty, be smart.
2. Always include at least one question that will get a client to respond right away.
Open-ended questions, inquiries about the targets’ lives and wants, are some of the
things you can incorporate in your messages.
3. Log in a schedule. Operators who log in the same time everyday most often get the
same targets’ messages. It helps in building rapport and ensures seamless
conversations. Most people are creatures of habits and our clients are no different. If
you log in a usual time, you will most likely encounter the same clients and that is
a repeat target in itself.
4. Do not drive targets away. Instigating a healthy and friendly discussion
or a debate can work wonders in keeping a conversation going but do not
pick a fight that can halt a conversation or get your clients so offended that
they would not respond anymore.

5. Be online for a minimum of 2 hours straight. This is the usual length of

time an average person spends in a messaging platform. Maximize that
opportunity to get your clients to stay and buy more credits.
In summary, here are the things we must remember:

KEEP THE TARGETS ON RESPONDING.

ENSURE A SEAMLESS CONVERSATION SHOWING INTEREST
IN YOUR TARGETS.
AVOID GRAMMATICAL ERRORS THAT WILL CONFUSE THE
CLIENTS.
KEEP A WELL UPDATED LOGBOOK TO USE AS REFERENCE IN
CONTINUING A CONVERSATION.
FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES AND DO NOT GET DEACTIVATED.

BE FUN. BE CREATIVE. 

Thank you and happy chats!
