1. GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE

This Company Standard sets out the general requirements for the design,
materials, inspection procedures and technical documentation concerning
Metering Pumps either Hydraulic Diaphragm or Packed Plunger type which shall
conform to API Standard 675 3rd Ed. Nov. 2012 “Positive Displacement Pumps –
Controlled Volume for Petroleum, Chemical and Gas Industry Services”, for
Chemical injection purposes (Glycol, Methanol, Hypochlorite, Scale Inhibitor,
Polyelectrolyte, Oxygen Scavanger, etc) in both off-shore and on-shore
installation.
This document replaces the following documents:

The present Specification amends, supplements or summarizes (highlights)
various clauses of API Standards 675.
With respect to API 675 Standard, paragraphs are marked as follows:
 clause added to API Standard
 clause that modifies API Standard
 clause that makes a decision, as required by API Standard
 clause that summarizes the corresponding API Standard clause.
When input by Company is required for the specific Project, it is marked as
follows: ().

1.2 TERMS AND DEFINITIONS


 The “Company” is the party that initiates the project and, ultimately, pays for
its design and construction. The Company will generally specify the technical
requirements.
 The “Contractor” is the party that carries out all or part of the design,
engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning or management of a
project or operation of a facility. The Company may sometimes undertake all or
part of the duties of the Contractor, e.g. when the Company awards the
Contract directly to the Manufacturer.
 The “Manufacturer” is the party that manufactures the pump and performs the
design, engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and
management of the pump package, procuring other components from Sub-
suppliers.

 The “Sub-supplier” is the party that manufactures or supplies equipment and


services to perform the duties specified by the Manufacturer, typically sub-
systems and components of the main equipment.
 The contractual structure may be one of the following:
 Company → (EPC) Contractor → Manufacturer → Sub-suppliers, or
 Company → (EPC) Contractor=Manufacturer → Sub-suppliers
 The word “shall” indicates a requirement.
 The word “should” indicates a recommendation.

1.4 UNITS OF MEASUREMENT


 The SI system of units and dimensions is used in this Standard. Any data or
drawings related to equipment supplied to this Specification shall use the SI
system. The U.S. Customary system may be employed for piping components
dimensions (inches).
 Pressure shall be relative and it shall be expressed in bar(g).

1.5 CONTRACTOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES


 This Specification is primarily intended to define the minimum requirements and
does not relieve the Contractor of its responsibility for the design, performance
and safe operation of the whole unit.
 The Contractor shall be responsible for the design, performance, guarantees,
co-ordination, manufacture, inspection, testing, preservation and packaging of
the entire unit, in accordance with the requirements of this General
Specification and Project Specifications and Data Sheets. This shall include as a
minimum:
 provision of documentation;
 control and co-ordination of Manufacturer and Sub-suppliers;
 compliance with Statutory Requirements, Codes and Standards;
 identification of all technical exceptions and deviations from this
General Specification, Project Specifications and all referenced
Industry Codes and Standards;

ease of delivery to the site;
 provision of all necessary design certification.
 The Contractor shall assure that the Manufacturer and all Sub-suppliers comply
with the requirements of this Specification and all reference Standards.

3. HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

3.1 HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS


 The Supplier shall be responsible for ensuring that the goods and services
supplied meet all applicable regulations on health, safety and environmental
issues.
 The equipment shall be designed to operate safely and satisfactorily in all
expected combinations of process, utilities, climates and environmental
conditions including start-up, shutdown, part load operation, and emergency
cases, while retaining the overall system security, reliability and availability.

3.2 AREA CLASSIFICATION


 All electrical components and installations shall be suitable for the area
classification and grouping specified in the data/requisition sheet.

3.3 NOISE CONTROL


 The equipment shall be compliant with noise and vibrations limitation
requirements as per Company “Noise and Vibration Management” Professional
Operating Instruction (OPI.SG.HSE.012) . The Manufacturer shall submit
guaranteed sound power levels and sound pressure levels of the equipment,
together with any other relevant information as requested in the data sheet,
MOD.MEC.POA.001 (). The Manufacturer shall indicate what special silencing
measures, if any, are proposed in order to meet the specified levels.

4. QUALITY

4.1 QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM


 The Contractor’s proposed quality management system shall be certified as in
compliance with the ISO 9001 Standard. The Contractor’s Quality Management
System Certification shall be valid for design, engineering, project
management, manufacturing, maintenance and service of the Chemical
Injection Pumps.
 A non-numbered copy of the Contractor’s Quality Management System Manual
shall be submitted with the Proposal.
 In the event that the quality management system of the Contractor’s first tier
Sub-Suppliers is not certified as in compliance with the ISO 9001 Standard, the
Contractor’s shall submit to the Company the sub-supplier’s quality
management system for approval before issuing any suborder to that Sub-
Supplier.

5. BASIC DESIGN

5.1 GENERAL
 The design of the pump and relevant auxiliary equipment shall be the Supplier's
responsibility. They shall be based on the present state-of-the-art and shall
comply with the Company's requests expressed in this specification, the Data
Sheet MOD.MEC.POA.001, the reference codes and standards and with
operating, safety and maintenance requirements.
 Pumps and auxiliaries shall be suitable for outdoor installation and shall be able
to operate continuously under a 3° tilt angle. The environmental conditions in
which the equipment will operate shall be specified in the data/requisition
sheet, and the Manufacturer shall indicate in his proposal any special protection
required by the Company.
 The equipment including auxiliaries shall be designed and constructed for at
least 3 years of uninterrupted continuous operation.
 when specified each pump head shall be provided with a pneumatically pilot-
operated recycle valve (fail safe). This recycle valve in case of failure of
pneumatic signal shall allow the recycle of fluid to suction tank;
 during transportation the maximum accelerations allowed by pump unit will be:

 maximum seismic acceleration allowed by pump unit at both main and cellar
deck shall be 0.28g.
 The pump design shall allow access for adjustment or replacement of liquid end
components including packing, seals, check valves, and other wetted parts that
require maintenance.

5.2 SELECTION OF PUMP TYPE


 Pump type(s) shall be as specified in the data/requisition sheet(s).

5.3 MATERIALS
5.3.1 General
 Materials of construction shall be as specified in the data/requisition sheet. The
pump Manufacturer may offer alternative materials if, based on his experience,
these would render equal or better service.
 Gray cast iron shall not be used for pressure-containing parts that handle
flammable or toxic fluids. With the Company’s approval, nodular cast iron may
be used in such services.
 Diaphragm shall be generally of elastomeric, PTFE or metal (e.g. stainless steel
1.4310) construction material.

5.3.2 Castings
All castings shall be free from blow-holes, earth or slags inclusions or from any
other concealed defects. Castings shall all be perfectly trimmed and sand-
blasted or pickled so as to ensure surface cleaning.

5.4 WELDING AND NDE


Welders shall be qualified according to ASME IX or EN287.
Welding Procedures (WPS) and Welding Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)
shall be submitted to Company for approval, prior to commencement of
welding.
Welding inspection and NDE Plan shall be mutually agreed by the Supplier and
the Company.
Welding inspection for the purpose of acceptance shall be performed after any
post weld heat treatment.
Radiographic, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrated examination
shall be performed by operators having an internationally recognized
qualification according to the acceptance criteria mutually agreed.
The Reference Standard for NDE shall be ASME V.

5.5 PIPINGS
 The pump connections must comply with the requirements set forth in API 675.
Should the Manufacturer be unable to supply flanges conforming to ANSI, he
shall supply the associated counterflanges. The suction and delivery flanges
shall also be designed to withstand the hydraulic test pressure of the pump
casings.

5.6 DRIVE BEARINGS


 Antifriction bearings shall have a minimum L-10 rated life (see ABMA Standard
9 or ABMA Standard 11) of 25,000 hours with continuous operation at
maximum rated conditions.

5.7 PUMP CHECK VALVES


 Check valves shall be guided to provide effective seating action which promotes
good flow accuracy and maximum check valve life.
 If specified, double check valves (both suction and discharge) shall be
furnished.

5.8 DIAPHRAGMS
 Diaphragms provide isolation and transmit hydraulic motion from one fluid to
another. Diaphragm materials shall be compatible with the fluids they contact
at all specified temperatures. They shall be designed to withstand maximum
flexing regardless of stroke-length setting and shall be of sufficient thickness
and density to prevent permeation.
 Single, double or triple diaphragms (direct or remote mounted) may be used.
 Single diaphragms and primary diaphragms on double/triple diaphragm pumps
shall have mechanical or hydraulic provisions to prevent excess flexure.

 Double diaphragm designs intended to prevent overextension of the secondary


diaphragm (e.g. tubular diaphragms) shall provide for a fluid (or other material)
filled intermediate chamber to transmit the motion from the primary diaphragm
to the secondary diaphragm. The intermediate fluid (or other material) shall be
compatible with both the process fluid and the hydraulic fluid.
 Unless otherwise specified, double/triple diaphragm designs intended for
detecting diaphragm failure shall be provided with a tapped hole for either a
conductivity probe in the intermediate fluid or a pressure type detector between
diaphragms in a dry design. If the probe/detector is not specified, a threaded
plug shall be factory installed in the tapped hole.

5.9 PACKED PLUNGERS

 Packed-plunger liquid ends shall provide for proper guiding of the plunger
through the complete stroke cycle with minimum side loading against the
packing. A lantern ring shall be provided in the stuffing box for flushing or
adding lubricant to the packing. The pump body shall have a minimum NPS 1/4
drilled and tapped hole on the top and bottom, in line with the lantern ring to
provide inlet and outlet for flushing. When a packing lubricant is used, the
bottom hole shall have a threaded plug installed.
 Provision shall be made between the drive mechanism and the plunger liquid
end to contain stuffing box leakage or to provide special liquid end conditioning.
NOTE The Company and the Vendor should review any potential leakage
collection system to ensure that all applicable environmental regulations are
met.

5.10 RELIEF VALVE APPLICATION


 Diaphragm pumps shall have an integral, adjustable hydraulic relief valve to
provide full protection of the pump drive mechanism from excessive discharge
pressure. .
 Packed-plunger pumps require external relief valves for mounting in the

5.11 GEARS
Each pumping group shall include a gear speed reduction unit.
Gear shall be designed with AGMA criteria as a guide and with a minimum
service factor of 1.5 per AGMA 6022 or AGMA 6013 as applicable. The gear
lubrication system shall be self-contained.

6. ACCESSORIES

6.1 DRIVERS
 Type and characteristics of the pump drivers shall be specified in the Data
Sheets. The driver shall be designed and sized to meet all the specified
operating conditions, including external gear and/or coupling losses, and shall
be in accordance with applicable specifications, as stated in the inquiry and
order. The driver shall be sized for satisfactory operation under the utility and
site conditions specified.
 The driver shall be sized to meet all process variations such as changes in the
pressure, temperature, or properties of the fluid handled, and conditions
specified in the inquiry, including plant start-up conditions.

6.1.1 Motors
 Electric motors shall comply with Company Standard 20167.EQP.ELE.FUN
“Asynchronous Motors”
 Three phase, four poles, flanged type electric motors, B5 or V1 shape, shall be
generally supplied according to IEC Standard.
 If required in Data Sheet explosion proof execution with minimum mechanical
protection IP 55 shall be provided.
 The electric variable speed drive, if provided, shall conform to Company
Standards 20179.EQP.ELE.FUN “Medium and High Power Variable Speed
Electric Drive” or 20178.EQP.ELE.FUN “Low Voltage Variable Speed Electric
Drives”.
 The Company shall specify in the motor data sheet accessories to be supplied.

6.2 COUPLINGS AND GUARDS


 Couplings shall be flexible, unless differently specified in the Data Sheets;
 In the case of multiplex type metering pumps the couplings shall be three part
flexible type;
 Pump manufacturer shall also supply and install a removable coupling guard;
 the guards shall be made of antispark material.

6.3 BASEPLATE
 Pumps shall be supplied complete with baseplate common to pump and motor.
The baseplate shall be a single fabricated steel unit, unless the Company and
the Vendor mutually agree that it may be fabricated in multiple sections. A
multiple section baseplate shall have machined and doweled mating surfaces
which shall be bolted together to ensure accurate field reassembly.
 In the case of off-shore installation, base plates shall be suitable for anchorage
to the steel support structure

6.4 PULSATION SUPPRESSION DEVICES

 If specified, the Vendor shall furnish pulsation suppression devices to be located


at the pump suction and/or discharge connections.

 The Company and the Vendor shall mutually agree on the type and
arrangement of pulsation suppression devices to be used for each pumping
system.
 The scope and details of any pulsation or vibration analysis shall be agreed
upon between the Manufacturer and the Company.

6.5 STORAGE TANKS


 If requested tanks for preparation and/or storage of chemicals shall be
manufactured in compliance with the relevant datasheets.

6.6 PRESSURE-LIMITING VALVES (PLV’S)


 PLV’s shall prevent pressure overload of pump and system.
 Unless otherwise specified, the Company shall provide PLVs in accordance with
API 526. The Vendor shall provide the Company with information on
recommended flow rate and relieving pressure. The Vendor and Company
should review the Company’s valve selection.
 If specified, the valve shall be provided by the Vendor.

6.7 BACK PRESSURE VALVES


 They shall prevent (if necessary) uncontrolled flow through the pump (over-metering) when,
due to static or dynamic reasons, the pressure at the suction flange is higher than at the
discharge flange.

6.8 PLUNGER SEAL SYSTEMS


 According to the pumped fluid, the following type of plunger seal shall be considered:
- Plunger seal with packing rings;
- Plunger seal with flushing lantern and liquid buffer;
- Self tensioning ring seals with flushing lantern.

6.9 CONTROL AND INSTRUMENTATION


 Pump capacity shall be adjusted by changing the actual or the effective stroke
length according to the following operations:
o Manual control, with pump at rest or in operation, by handwheel with lock
knob;
o Automatic control by means of a pneumatic positioner, either from linear
or non linear signal, normal range 4÷20 mA, with emergency manual
overdrive;
o Automatic control with positioner controlled by an electrically actuated
monophase servomotor, complete with a response potentiometer, manual
stroke emergency adjustment;
o Speed adjustment by means of variable speed motor, with manual or
automatic adjustment;
o Electric pulses generator and pulsemeter to meter a fixed liquid quantity.
 Capacity control, either manually or automatically, shall be provided with visual
indication of capacity setting, shown as a percentage of the maximum stroke
length.

 The direction of movement to increase or decrease pump flow shall be clearly


marked. All adjustment means and indicators shall be easily accessible with the
pump installed.
 The unit control instrumentation shall be specified in the schedules and supplied
according to specification 20215.PKG.ETI.SDS Electric and Instrumentation
Plants Included in Package Supplies.
 All pneumatic connections shall be implemented by AISI 316 pipe.

6.10 SUCTION STRAINER


 In order to avoid the function disrupt of the pump valves, installation of strainer in the
suction line shall be provided.

6.11 PAINTING AND COATING

Painting and coating of equipment shall comply with the Company Standard N°
20000.VAR.PAI.FUN “Protective Coating, Galvanizing and Metallizing for internal
and external Surfaces of Offshore and Onshore Structures and related
Components” and Projects documents.
Supplier’s standard painting system may be proposed as an alternative, but
shall be subject to review and specific Company approval.

6.12 INSULATION AND PERSONNEL PROTECTION


The hot insulation will be applied to all the parts exposed to contact with
persons during control and routine maintenance operations so that the
superficial temperature of 60°C is not exceed.
Insulation materials, thickness and finish should be established by the Supplier,
they will be subject to Company approval.
Insulation and personnel protection should be defined in the relevant Project
TDS and should be in accordance with Company Standard
N°03652.VAR.GEN.SPC “Thermal Insulation for Cold Service” and N°
03653.VAR.GEN.SPC “Thermal Insulation for Hot Temperature Service”.
Supply standard specifications may be proposed for approval by Company.

6.13 EARTHING SYSTEM


 The package earthing system shall comply with Company Specification
6778.ICO.ELE.STD “Skid or Package Units - Typical Earthing Details”.
 All electrical equipment supplied shall be bonded to the related skid.
 Each skid shall be provided with two earthing bus bars for connecting to the
main earthing system.
 All non-current carrying metalwork on the skid, which is not permanently
welded to the skid base, shall be bonded to the base using adequately sized
earth cables.
 Equipment anchor bolts shall not be used for earthing purposes.
 All earthing connections shall be clearly identified on the General Arrangement
Drawings and the earthing terminals shall be in accordance with the
International Standards and Local Regulations.

6.14 NAMEPLATE AND ROTATIONAL ARROWS


 A nameplate shall be securely attached at a readily visible location on the
equipment and on any other major piece of auxiliary equipment.
 Rotation arrows shall be cast in or attached to each major item of rotating
equipment in a readily visible location.
 The Company’s item number, the Vendor’s name, the machine’s serial number,
and the machine’s size and type, as well as its minimum and maximum
allowable design limits and rating data (including pressures, temperatures,
speeds, and power), MAWPs and temperatures, hydrostatic test pressures and
critical speeds, shall appear on the machine’s nameplate.

7. OPERABILITY AND MAINTAINABILITY


 The Contractor shall provide full details for maintaining the package. Due
consideration shall be given to the ease of access to all the items, during
operation and maintenance, when designing the layout of the package. Access
shall be provided to all equipment and any area requiring maintenance. The
equipment shall be designed so that maintenance can be carried out with the
minimum special facilities/tools. All equipment and piping shall be neatly
arranged on the skid in such a way that they do not obstruct maintenance
operations. The Contractor shall work closely with the Company to ensure that
the most maintenance-effective layout is achieved for the package.
 All major equipment items shall be supported on stainless steel shims at each
mounting point, to facilitate re-alignment at a later stage. No tapered shims are
allowed. Sufficient quantity of pre-cut shims shall be provided loose for site
commissioning.
 The Contractor shall provide in the proposal maintenance lifting requirements
for the equipment, and shall advise suitable methods (runway beam, overhead
travelling crane, etc.). The Contractor shall provide all the maintenance
documentation (see Section 11.2 “Contract Documentation”) and analysis
necessary to manage the maintenance activities and the data to populate the
Company CMMS.

8. INSPECTIONS AND TESTS

8.1 GENERAL
Inspections & tests shall be in accordance with Company Standard
07423.PKG.GEN.SDS “Inspection and Test of Package Supplies”.
Acceptance of shop tests does not constitute a waiver of requirements to meet
field performance under specified operations conditions, nor does inspection
relieve the Contractor of his responsibilities.

8.2 INSPECTIONS AND TESTS


The Inspection & Test Plan shall be agreed between the Company and the
Contractor as to the type and extent of inspections and tests to be carried out
on the supply. The Company shall specify the type of inspections and the
Company attendance in the MOD.MEC.POA.101 “Chemical Injection Pumps
Inspection & Test Data Sheets (IDS)”.

8.2.1 Hydrostatic Test


 All pressure casing components shall be assembled as a single unit and tested
hydrostatically with liquid at a minimum of 1.5 times the MAWP, but not less
than a gauge pressure of 150 kPa (1.5 bar).
 The test liquid shall be at a higher temperature than the ductile-brittle
transition temperature of the material being tested.

8.2.2 Performance Test


 Unless otherwise specified, tests shall be conducted in accordance with the
Hydraulic Institute pump standards, according to the tolerances specified in
10.2. The manufacturer shall operate the pump in their shop for sufficient
period to obtain complete test data, including speed, discharge pressure,
suction pressure, power, and capacity.

9. PRESERVATION, STORAGE, PACKING AND TRANSPORT


Preparation for shipment shall conform to Company standard
20185.COO.GEN.SDS “Handling and Protection of Materials and Equipment”.
Packing shall comply with Company Specification 05883.VAR.GEN.SPC “Packing
for the Dispatching of Material and Equipments”.
As a minimum, the Contractor shall:
o prepare the supply for shipment and deliver to nominated delivery point;
o furnish internal and external shipping braces required to prevent damage
or movement during transportation;
o furnish all the crates with relevant Packing List and Shipping
Documentation;
o provide shipping, installation, operation and maintenance weights and
centre of gravity;
The Contractor shall provide Storage and Maintenance Procedures for
Company's review and approval, which shall include, as a minimum, the
following subjects:
o weather protection;
o equipment storage maintenance;
o periodical inspection;
o periodical maintenance;
o notice required for equipment usage;
o corrosion protection and application of temporary coatings;
o storage conditions including temperature range and humidity.

NPIPR, the net positive inlet pressure required is defined as the minimum
NPIP required by the pump to achieve the required performance with the
specified fluid at any specified point, as determined by Vendor. NPIP shall
always include acceleration losses.

datum elevation (underside of the pump mounting plate) during pressure
pulsations, minus the vapor pressure of the fluid at the maximum operating
temperature and at any

11. CONTRACTOR’S DOCUMENTATION

11.1 TENDER DOCUMENTATION


The Company shall specify the technical documents to be provided by the
Contractor during the tendering phase in the MOD.MEC.POA.201 “Chemical
Injection Pumps Required Document Data Sheets (DDS)”.().

11.2 CONTRACT DOCUMENTATION


The Company shall specify the technical documents to be provided by the
Contractor during the execution phase in the MOD.MEC.POA.201 “Chemical
Injection Pumps Required Document Data Sheets (DDS)”.()
Documentation shall be provided in accordance with Company Specification
20189.COO.GEN.SDS “Technical Document Identification and Title Blocks
(Identification Tables).
The Contractor shall prepare the as-built revision for each document (drawings,
specifications, procedures, data sheets etc.) modified during field installation.
Material inspections shall include the Charpy impact test, (see Section 8.2
“Inspections”).

12. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

12.1 SOUR GAS SERVICE


 Materials exposed to a sour environment (wet H2S) as defined by NACE
MR0175, including trace quantities, shall be in accordance with the
requirements of that standard. Ferrous materials not covered by NACE MR0175
shall not have a yield strength exceeding 620 N/mm2 (90,000 psi), nor a
hardness exceeding Rockwell C 22. Components that are fabricated by welding
shall be postweld heat treated, if required, so that both the welds and heat-
affected zones meet the yield strength and hardness requirements.
 Material inspections shall include the hardness test.

12.2 OFFSHORE & MARINE INSTALLATIONS


 An equipment is in an “offshore environment” when it is installed at sea, at an
elevation higher than 30.5m. A “marine environment” is an installation at sea,
below 30.5m elevation.
 If required in Data Sheet tropicalized execution shall be provided.

12.2.1 Vessel Installations


 Pump unit installed on vessels or floating platforms shall be capable of
withstanding the vessel movements and inclinations specified by the Company
() while in operation.
 The functionality and safety of the and lube-oil systems shall not be jeopardized
by vessel/platform motions and inclinations.
 The baseplate shall be designed to minimize weight but it shall be stiff enough
not to have adverse effects either on the train alignment or the train rotor
dynamic behavior.
 All connecting pipework shall be anchored to the baseplate to prevent
misalignment caused by vessel movements.
12.2.2 Weight Control
 Among proposal documentation, an estimate of the CoG and the total installed
weight of pump unit skid and off-skid equipment shall be supplied, with an
upper tolerance of 10% or 10 kg, whichever is greater.
 A General Arrangement Drawing shall be provided, showing the weight and
centre of gravity of each skid and interconnecting components (piping, valves
etc.) that are part of the Unit, both dry and operating (including fluids and
lubricants).

12.3 DESERT INSTALLATIONS


 The desert is classified as an area with dry and hot climate. Large amount of
dust is present and there is little vegetation. Sand storms are common.
12.3.1 Enclosure
 Protections against dust and sand ingress shall be provided considering sand
storms of an intensity appropriate to the location.

12.4 ARCTIC INSTALLATIONS


 The arctic environment is characterized by freezing weather (below 0°C) for an
extended period of time.
12.4.1 Materials
 Low-carbon steels can be notch sensitive and susceptible to brittle fracture at
ambient or lower temperatures. Therefore, only fully killed, normalized steels
made to fine-grain practice are acceptable.
 Material inspections shall include the Charpy impact test, (see Section 8.2
“Inspections”).
12.4.2 Enclosure
 Vendor shall design the enclosure/canopy considering the most adverse
ambient conditions as indicated in pump data sheet.
