4. QUALITY
5. BASIC DESIGN
5.1 GENERAL
The design of the pump and relevant auxiliary equipment shall be the Supplier's
responsibility. They shall be based on the present state-of-the-art and shall
comply with the Company's requests expressed in this specification, the Data
Sheet MOD.MEC.POA.001, the reference codes and standards and with
operating, safety and maintenance requirements.
Pumps and auxiliaries shall be suitable for outdoor installation and shall be able
to operate continuously under a 3° tilt angle. The environmental conditions in
which the equipment will operate shall be specified in the data/requisition
sheet, and the Manufacturer shall indicate in his proposal any special protection
required by the Company.
The equipment including auxiliaries shall be designed and constructed for at
least 3 years of uninterrupted continuous operation.
when specified each pump head shall be provided with a pneumatically pilot-
operated recycle valve (fail safe). This recycle valve in case of failure of
pneumatic signal shall allow the recycle of fluid to suction tank;
during transportation the maximum accelerations allowed by pump unit will be:
ax/g ay/g az/g
main deck 0.65 0.65 0.20
cellar deck 0.45 0.45 0.20
maximum seismic acceleration allowed by pump unit at both main and cellar
deck shall be 0.28g.
The pump design shall allow access for adjustment or replacement of liquid end
components including packing, seals, check valves, and other wetted parts that
require maintenance.
5.3 MATERIALS
5.3.1 General
Materials of construction shall be as specified in the data/requisition sheet. The
pump Manufacturer may offer alternative materials if, based on his experience,
these would render equal or better service.
Gray cast iron shall not be used for pressure-containing parts that handle
flammable or toxic fluids. With the Company’s approval, nodular cast iron may
be used in such services.
Diaphragm shall be generally of elastomeric, PTFE or metal (e.g. stainless steel
1.4310) construction material.
5.3.2 Castings
All castings shall be free from blow-holes, earth or slags inclusions or from any
other concealed defects. Castings shall all be perfectly trimmed and sand-
blasted or pickled so as to ensure surface cleaning.
5.5 PIPINGS
The pump connections must comply with the requirements set forth in API 675.
Should the Manufacturer be unable to supply flanges conforming to ANSI, he
shall supply the associated counterflanges. The suction and delivery flanges
shall also be designed to withstand the hydraulic test pressure of the pump
casings.
5.8 DIAPHRAGMS
Diaphragms provide isolation and transmit hydraulic motion from one fluid to
another. Diaphragm materials shall be compatible with the fluids they contact
at all specified temperatures. They shall be designed to withstand maximum
flexing regardless of stroke-length setting and shall be of sufficient thickness
and density to prevent permeation.
Single, double or triple diaphragms (direct or remote mounted) may be used.
Single diaphragms and primary diaphragms on double/triple diaphragm pumps
shall have mechanical or hydraulic provisions to prevent excess flexure.
Packed-plunger liquid ends shall provide for proper guiding of the plunger
through the complete stroke cycle with minimum side loading against the
packing. A lantern ring shall be provided in the stuffing box for flushing or
adding lubricant to the packing. The pump body shall have a minimum NPS 1/4
drilled and tapped hole on the top and bottom, in line with the lantern ring to
provide inlet and outlet for flushing. When a packing lubricant is used, the
bottom hole shall have a threaded plug installed.
Provision shall be made between the drive mechanism and the plunger liquid
end to contain stuffing box leakage or to provide special liquid end conditioning.
NOTE The Company and the Vendor should review any potential leakage
collection system to ensure that all applicable environmental regulations are
met.
5.11 GEARS
Each pumping group shall include a gear speed reduction unit.
Gear shall be designed with AGMA criteria as a guide and with a minimum
service factor of 1.5 per AGMA 6022 or AGMA 6013 as applicable. The gear
lubrication system shall be self-contained.
6. ACCESSORIES
6.1 DRIVERS
Type and characteristics of the pump drivers shall be specified in the Data
Sheets. The driver shall be designed and sized to meet all the specified
operating conditions, including external gear and/or coupling losses, and shall
be in accordance with applicable specifications, as stated in the inquiry and
order. The driver shall be sized for satisfactory operation under the utility and
site conditions specified.
The driver shall be sized to meet all process variations such as changes in the
pressure, temperature, or properties of the fluid handled, and conditions
specified in the inquiry, including plant start-up conditions.
6.1.1 Motors
Electric motors shall comply with Company Standard 20167.EQP.ELE.FUN
“Asynchronous Motors”
Three phase, four poles, flanged type electric motors, B5 or V1 shape, shall be
generally supplied according to IEC Standard.
If required in Data Sheet explosion proof execution with minimum mechanical
protection IP 55 shall be provided.
The electric variable speed drive, if provided, shall conform to Company
Standards 20179.EQP.ELE.FUN “Medium and High Power Variable Speed
Electric Drive” or 20178.EQP.ELE.FUN “Low Voltage Variable Speed Electric
Drives”.
The Company shall specify in the motor data sheet accessories to be supplied.
6.3 BASEPLATE
Pumps shall be supplied complete with baseplate common to pump and motor.
The baseplate shall be a single fabricated steel unit, unless the Company and
the Vendor mutually agree that it may be fabricated in multiple sections. A
multiple section baseplate shall have machined and doweled mating surfaces
which shall be bolted together to ensure accurate field reassembly.
In the case of off-shore installation, base plates shall be suitable for anchorage
to the steel support structure
The Company and the Vendor shall mutually agree on the type and
arrangement of pulsation suppression devices to be used for each pumping
system.
The scope and details of any pulsation or vibration analysis shall be agreed
upon between the Manufacturer and the Company.
Painting and coating of equipment shall comply with the Company Standard N°
20000.VAR.PAI.FUN “Protective Coating, Galvanizing and Metallizing for internal
and external Surfaces of Offshore and Onshore Structures and related
Components” and Projects documents.
Supplier’s standard painting system may be proposed as an alternative, but
shall be subject to review and specific Company approval.
8.1 GENERAL
Inspections & tests shall be in accordance with Company Standard
07423.PKG.GEN.SDS “Inspection and Test of Package Supplies”.
Acceptance of shop tests does not constitute a waiver of requirements to meet
field performance under specified operations conditions, nor does inspection
relieve the Contractor of his responsibilities.

NPIPR, the net positive inlet pressure required is defined as the minimum
NPIP required by the pump to achieve the required performance with the
specified fluid at any specified point, as determined by Vendor. NPIP shall
always include acceleration losses.
NPIP is defined as the minimum instantaneous pressure determined at the
datum elevation (underside of the pump mounting plate) during pressure
pulsations, minus the vapor pressure of the fluid at the maximum operating
temperature and at any
specified operating point.
