Bishop School Directory

Thank you to all those who have signed up to be a part of the Bishop directory. We are still missing
many students and families. In order to make the directory as useful as possible to the community, we
kindly ask that you register as soon as possible. We recognize that you may have already provided
information through PowerSchool, your teacher and/or your class parents, and do not wish to create
more work for families. Unfortunately, we do not have access to this information to use in the
directory due to privacy laws. We are looking to streamline this process in the future, but this is the
only way of collecting information at this time.
Please sign up today by visiting: https://tools.ptoffice.com/reg/Bishop-Bears
password: 20Bishop21
Look for an email from your class parents for more information on how to sign up. You may also find
instructions here on the Bishop PTO website.
Please reach out to Jessica Tsymbal at jtsymbal@gmail.com with questions.

Holiday Helping Hands - Deadline tomorrow!

Holiday Helping Hands is a program organized by the Town of Arlington to help local families in need
provide gifts to their children during the holiday season. For those of you that are familiar with this
program, you will notice it looks very different this year, but it's easier than ever to contribute!
The town is asking for gift cards in $25 increments, or checks made out to the Town of Arlington with
"holiday help" in the memo line. Gift cards can be from retailers such as Target, Walmart, CVS,
Walgreens, Best Buy, or local shops such as Maxima or Henry Bear's Park. You may also donate Visa or
MasterCard gift cards.
Please consider contributing to this worthy program if you are able. Currently, Holiday Helping Hands
is well-short of their fundraising goals for the season--it would be great if we could help them close
the gap!
Please sign up for a slot and send your contribution in by Friday, December 4. There will be a dropbox
for donations in the Bishop foyer, or you may contact Lori Reck at reck.lori@gmail.com to make other
arrangements.

Bishop’s Quarter 1 Virtual Art Show

Hello Bishop Families!
During the First Quarter of the school year, Bishop students participated in a variety of art lessons
taught through Zoom meetings. These lessons allowed students to experiment with different
materials, and use their imaginations to develop their own artistic style. Students were able to choose
their favorite works of art that they made and upload them to their class' padlet. This Virtual Art
Show showcases those fantastic student-selected artworks. Please click on this link to view the Virtual
Art Show:

I hope you also had a great holiday weekend!
Take care,
Sam

LIBRARY NEWS

Bishop VIRTUAL Annual Book Fair is underway - running NOVEMBER 20th - DECEMBER
11th
To browse and shop for books please visit the BestBookFairs website using the link AT THE TOP of the
Instruction Sheet, which you can find HERE. Books will be delivered to school FREE of charge ON
MONDAY, DECEMBER 14th, or can be delivered to homes for a fee.
Please read the Instructions for ordering carefully. Please note that we are including an additional
step if you wish to purchase your book as a Gift:
• IF YOU ARE PURCHASING A BOOK AS A GIFT FOR YOUR CHILD and do
NOT want it to be delivered to their classroom, PLEASE INDICATE THAT BY
ADDING “SECRET GIFT” to the Box at the end of the Checkout process that asks
for “Teacher Name” e.g. “SECRET GIFT/ MORAIS”. We will arrange for these
orders to be delivered to the Library for contactless, outdoor pick up.

Teachers are always very grateful for the generous donation of books to their classrooms. This year
instead of a wish list for each teacher, there is an option to buy $1 points on a gift card that the
teacher can then use to purchase the books of their choice at the end of the Sale. Again directions for
how to do that can be found on the Instruction Sheet. Orders that include this option do not need any
special labeling at Checkout (that is only required for books that are to be kept secret from a student -
see above).
Proceeds from the Sale will go towards books, supplies and subscriptions for the Library.
Thank you so much for your support.,
Ms. Vaishnaw and Ms. Bloch

Nurse’s Notes
Dear Bishop Families,
I hope that you are well and that you enjoyed so much deserved time off for the long holiday break.
As was expected, the week after the holiday break, the number of COVID cases in MA and our local
community is rising. We will continue to do everything that we can to keep your children and our staff
safe while they are here with us at school. I would like to share with you a few reminders and some
updated information.
When your child is sick, they should stay home. Even if they have mild symptoms (fever, cough,
difficulty breathing, new loss of smell/taste, sore throat, body aches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea,
headache, unusual fatigue, new nasal congestion).
Your child should stay at home if you are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test that was
recommended for symptoms of exposure.
The CDC has issued new guidance this week related to domestic travel.
“Travel can increase your chance of spreading and getting COVID-19. Postponing travel and staying
home is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
You and your travel companions (including children) may feel well and not have any symptoms, but
you can still spread COVID-19 to family, friends, and community after travel.”
In the past week updated guidelines have been issued by MA DPH and the CDC that reflect new
evidence related to quarantine practices. These guidelines are currently being reviewed by APS and
the BOH and we expect that there will be communication sent out to reflect changes in policy.
Flu vaccination: ALL students are required to have a flu shot prior to 12/31. This is a state mandate
and applies to students who participate in remote learning and in-person learning. Please see the
Arlington Public Schools Guidance for Families for more information related to exemptions and
exclusions. Proof of vaccination should be sent to me ASAP.
Thank you for your assistance with helping to support our health and safety program!
With Kind Regards,
Katie
BISHOP PTO NEWS
Don't forget to order Original Works - it’s not too late!
For all students who returned artwork, your artwork has been scanned and is waiting for you online!
Head to https://store.originalworks.com/gallerylogin and use the login "Tjab" to access the gallery.
There are many new, online-exclusive products this year, so please check it out! Unfortunately,
Christmas delivery can no longer be guaranteed, as the deadline for this was November 30th.

Spirit Days
Tomorrow is Bishop Spirit Day! Students have the chance to showcase their Bishop Pride on the first
Friday of each month. Students are encouraged to wear their Bishop spiritwear or Bishop school
colors (yellow/gold and blue) whether they are in school or remote.
For the holidays, we will also be offering onsite spirit wear sales!
Look for us in front of the school next week during pick-up on Tuesday 12/8 and Thursday 12/10 from
1:30PM - 2PM. Additionally, Bishop spirit wear is always available here for purchase.

The Second Time’s the Charm!

Your child should have received their school portraits by now. If you are dissatisfied with the portraits
and would like another try, you have the opportunity for a retake!
The final retake day will occur in the cafeteria on the following date and times:
Friday, December 4
Hybrid Cohort B 8:30-10:30 AM
Remote Academy Grades 3-5 10:45-11:45 AM
There is no form to fill out. Simply have your child return the undamaged portrait package to the
photographer on their scheduled day. If you have specific instructions for the photographer, please jot
them down so that they show through the envelope window and can be easily spotted.
Retake packages will be distributed at school approximately 3-5 weeks following retake day.
Coffee Pond offers a full refund if you are dissatisfied with your photos. For a full refund information,
please visit www.coffeepond.com or email at lifeguards@coffeepond.com.
Sibling photos will also be offered on the retake days. If you are interested in sibling photos, please fill
out an order form online at www.coffeepond.com and click on the big red button that says “Order
School Portraits.” You can also fill out this paper form and return it on retake day. When filling out
either form, please fill out “sibling (last name)” for the name rather than the individual student’s
name. Grade/teacher does not matter--it can be left blank on the paper form. For the online form,
simply select any child’s grade/teacher as something needs to be filled out to submit the form. For
Remote Academy students, if your children’s assigned times are on different days, please bring your
children to either time that works best for your schedule.
Please reach out to Laura Tikonoff at laura.tikonoff@gmail.com with questions.

Arlington Youth Counseling Center Fundraiser

This year marks an important milestone for AYCC, as they celebrate 50 years of outstanding mental
health care and compassionate service to Arlington’s youth and families. They wish they could
celebrate their golden anniversary with the community.. However, in lieu of their annual gala, you
can renew your commitment to AYCC by supporting their “50k for 50 Years” fundraising campaign.
Now, more than ever, in the face of so much uncertainty, families in Arlington are turning to AYCC for
help—whether for accessible, affordable and high-quality mental health services, or for help with
basic resource needs.
Please visit their website www.aycc50.org to make a donation and to learn more about their
campaign. They will share stories and highlight the many ways that AYCC has impacted the lives of
young people and families over the past 50 years.
They are deeply grateful for your ongoing support and wish you and your loved ones continued
wellbeing and safety during these challenging times.

Arlington Education Foundation Stars

It's that time of the year! Give an AEF Star Certificate to an educator or staff to say thank you for all
they do! Donate your Star online at https://aefma.org/stars. Our teachers and staff have shown such
creativity, caring, and perseverance as they build new ways to educate our children. Send a Star
Certificate to recognize educators who remain dedicated to our children's education, both in-person
and remotely.
For a donation of $20 or more, the educator/staff of your choice will receive a certificate that honors
them with a gift in their name.
Stars donations go back into our schools as funding for AEF grants both large and small. Read more
about AEF latest news here: https://www.aefma.org/impact/updates.
While you can give a teacher a Star Certificate at any time during the year, the deadline to ensure
delivery before the holiday break is December 5, 2020.

Over the past several years, budget cuts have affected our local schools. To offset some of those cuts,
Varallo Orthodontics has started the Partners in Education Program, or P.I.E. For every patient in
grades K-8 who starts orthodontic treatment with their office, they will donate $25 to the patient's
school PTO. This program runs until 12/31/20. To schedule a free consultation or find out more, visit

Holiday Helping Hands - Date limite demain!

Henry
通過reck.lori@gmail.com與Lori Reck聯繫,以進行其他安排。
