exchanged letters and the famous classic photographs in which both heroes stood
alongside each other.
Because they have different ideals which sparked a Rivalry between Del Pilar and
Rizal, mainly because due to Del Pilar's Editorial policy and Rizal’s Political Beliefs.
The editorial policy of La Solidaridad under Del Pilar’s management enhanced the
cleavage between Rizal and Del Pilar. Rizal and his close friends objected to the

views.

Pilar nonetheless arose. By the time, Del Pilar had become the owner of La
Solidardad and had taken the place of Graciano Lopez Jaena as its editor. Del

political vision.
2. How did Rizal honor the GomBurZa in El Filibusterismo?
The three priests inspired the Ilustrado movement and Jose Rizal paid tribute to
them in his second novel, El Filibusterismo. In 1998, their common grave and
bones were located in Paco Cemetery. A memorial marker has been placed on the
burial site.
The execution of GOMBURZA was a turning point in our history. Rizal initially
wanted to be a Jesuit priest but when he heard about their execution, their death
awakened strong feelings of anger and resentment among Filipinos, most
especially Rizal. He dedicated ElFilibusterismo, which main theme is to convey the
message that the system of government in the Philippines governed by corrupt
officials and dominated by the friars can lead to the downfall of the Spaniards, to
GOMBURZA because they are the ones who inspired him to do everything in the
first place. Their deaths lead the rise of the book which will open our mind and
hearts that the colonization would be at end, and sparked the beginning of the
Propaganda movement.
