Statistics show that people in the US are taking more and more medicines. A survey from 2014 showed that 48% of
Americans used at least one drug (prescribed by a doctor) in 30 days – that is 5% more than in 2000. Another study from
2012 revealed that 81% of American adults take over-the-counter medications (for which you do not need a 1.1. ________
when you have a minor complaint, like a headache, cold or cough). One of the reasons may be the 1.2. ________ population,
as the number of senior patients with age-related diseases is on the rise.

Exercise addiction is a real problem which affects about 3% of the population, as data shows. The biggest number of people

Contrary to popular belief that exercise is good for our health and well-being, it does more 2.2. ________ than good to the
addicts. It may lead to some potentially serious health problems, like extreme fatigue or irregular heartbeats.
Being hooked on exercise is like any 2.3. ________ addiction: you pursue physical activity, in spite of physical, economic, or
social consequences. The symptoms also resemble those of any addiction. For example, you need more and more exercise
to feel the desired positive effects; you spend less and less time doing other work-related and social activities because your
whole day focuses on exercising; and you stick to your exercise routine 2.4. ________ being advised otherwise by a doctor or
a physiotherapist. A passion for exercise does not easily turn into an addiction, but it is important to notice the warning signs.
