1. Activity Design
Rationale The current drug abuse problem has reached a disturbing level. Brutal and
heinous crimes committed are reported to be drug-related. A survey by the
National Youth Commission in 1996 showed that Filipino youth drug
abusers are in the age bracket 15 to 29 years old. Despite sustained
enforcement of the law, drug syndicates continue to produce, smuggle, and
distribute drugs. Demand for prohibited drugs persists due to insufficiency
in public information, awareness, and education.
In order to have a holistic approach, there is a need to strengthen and
coordinate the demand reduction and prevention campaign, information,
and education. The seriousness of the drug-related problems in our
community requires the concerted efforts of the parents, teachers and local
government units to have a more effective anti-drug campaign in the
community level. There is a need to strengthen their roles in drug abuse
prevention and control.
Parents and teachers will serve as anti-drug advocates. School PTA Officers
who are participants to the Forum are expected to re-echo the same to
fellow parents and teachers so that they will be able to develop programs
and activities aimed towards drug abuse prevention and control.
Objectives 1. To build and/or reinforce awareness and knowledge among parents and
teachers on the negative effects of prohibited drugs so they could provide
proper guidance to their students and children.
2. To strengthen partnership between the school thru the teachers and the
community thru the parents in the campaign against the use of prohibited
drugs.
3. To collaborate with the local government units thru the municipal
kagawads in the implementation of effective programs and activities
geared towards the prevention of drug-related problems in their locality.
