Proposal Teen Age Pregnancy
With the overarching aim of examining the cause and effect of poverty especially
the rising cases of poverty here in the Philippines, the researcher wants to undertake a
school-based survey. In particular the survey aims to:
Identify the cause of teenage pregnancy
Identify the effect of teenage pregnancy
Examine the rate of teenage pregnancy here in the Philippines
Ways to overcome teenage pregnancy
Programs for teenage pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy is one of the hardest challenges here in the Philippines. This
is considered as the most concern issues in the Philippines. Philippines is one of the
Asian countries which shares similar situation( Jordan Tovera Salvador,2008). One out
of every young Filipino women age 15 to 19 is already a mother or pregnant with a first
child (National Demographic and Health Survey,2013). This issue was very alarming for
some of us. This problem has a lot of impact to our society especially in increasing the
rate of poverty and overpopulation of the country.
There are a lot of causes of this problem but teenage pregnancies are often
associated with social development issues such as lack of sufficient education and
poverty (Salvador,2016). The incidence of mortality in teenage pregnancies and adverse
birth outcomes is increasing every year due to immature pre-natal care, socio-
economical challenges, and in adequate weight gained during pregnancy (Xi-Kuan,
Shi Wu, Flemming Demissie & Rhoads, 2007). New technology is also considered as one
of the major culprits to the increased number of teenage pregnancy cases.
Occasionally, teenagers get hooked to different social networking sites such as
Facebook, Online Dating, Instagram, etc. using their smartphones, notebooks and
tablets.(Rosario,2008).
In response of this research and recent government policy highlighting the case of
teenage pregnancy in the Philippines, the teacher has invited the researcher to undertake
a survey of pupils with the principle aim of explore and understand the lived experiences
of mothers in their teenage years.
III. Methology
The researcher will be using a quantitative design using a survey research method.
The researcher would like the project to be open to the grade 11 students of section D,
a total population of 50 pupils. Only those students who like to answer the survey will
participate.
As the researcher would like all the pupils to complete the questionnaire, once the
approval of the teacher and the student has been gained then all of the students will
participate in the project. Any pupils who declined to answer the questionnaire will not be
counted.
