What’s More

Check your knowledge against the understanding that you have gained in
the lesson regarding reproductive success. Answer the following questions briefly
and concisely.

Essay
1. Why do you think natural selection favors animals with the greatest
reproductive success?
-Natural selection favors animals with the greatest reproductive
success because they are more adapted to the environment. Environment
are more dangerous because they don't know what will happen every
minute so they tend to survive and produce more offspring to make sure
that their species will continue to live on. They leave more offspring to
increase the proportion of their genes in the population for the next
generation.
2. What do you believe is the greatest threat to animals and why?
-I believe that the greatest threat to animals is destruction of their
habitat. Why? Because it will lead to extinction of many species. If their
natural habitat is destroyed they will have hard time to survive. Many
animals will die and the ecosystem will become not balance. And even us
will be affected. Our habitat will also destroy because of natural disaster
due to cutting down of trees that animals natural habitat.
3. Why is it important for animals to never go extinct?
-. It's important for animals because the loss of one species can
trigger the loss of others. The more species disappear, the links of the food
chains become broken that lead the entire ecosystem become vulnerable.
So if the ecosystem is not balance, humans can be affected too. We can't
take clean air and water that we all need to survive. We can't get enough
food if the animals and plants die.
4. How can we better preserve and protect animals so that they may continue
to live on?
- We can protect and preserve animals by simply planting more trees.
We all know that the major cause of their extinction is the loss of their habitat. By
planting more trees we can help animals to have their new habitat. We can also
help them by joining campaigns or programs that aims to protect them. Through
the knowledge that we gained from the programs we can educate and encourage
other people to protect also the animals. If we join forces together we have a
better chance of protecting our nature and ecosystem.

1. Why do you think is asexual reproduction present among animals?

- Asexual reproduction is present among animals because almost all
of them are adapted to unpredictable and changing environment which
they need to produce more offspring so that their species will not be
extinct. And asexual reproduction can be the simplest way for animals to
produce large number of offspring in order to survive.

2. Is it possible for humans to undergo asexual reproduction? Why?

No, human cannot reproduce with just one parent. Because human
requires 46 chromosomes or packets of DNA. Male and female have 23
chromosomes each. So if they combined, the genetic information inside
the chromosomes can create the plans for a full human. Therefore, female
can only produce an offspring if she will mate to male.
3. Why is reproduction important for species survival?
- It's important because through reproduction species can pass their
genetic information on to their offspring. If they eventually die they can
make sure that their species continue to live. If the species does not
reproduce enough offspring they will eventually become extinct.
4. What makes hermaphrodites unique organisms?

- Hermaphrodites are unique organisms because they have both

male and female genitalia. Males have organs that produce male
gametes(sperm) while females have different sexual organs that produce
female gametes(eggs). They can both give and receive gametes. This allows
them to both share their DNA while at the same time having the chance to
develop an offspring of their own.

5. What is the difference between oviparity and ovoviviparity?

- Oviparity is a way of reproduction when an animals lay eggs and
the embryos develop externally. The young will get nourishment from its yolk
and will be protected by the external covering of the egg. While ovoviviparity
is when an animals lay eggs when they are ready to hatch.
