THE POWER OF PERFORMANCE
Radio controls - SCANRECO C4.3
1 - Operation
u The radio control SCANRECO delivered on Effer cranes is a digital remote system based on micro-processors
technology, made of one transmitter unit (the so-called “push-button panel” of very limited weight) and adjustable
support, to be brought by means of a shoulder strap, as well as of one receiver unit, mounted on crane, which is
electrically connected to the controlbank.
u Electric signals that the operator sends to receiver unit each time a transmitter manipulator is engaged are
forwarded to an electronic box by means of an electric cable. The electronic box will turn them into displacements
of the crane controlbank levers
u Several movements may be carried out at the same time and crane handling is executed in a proportional way.
Small levers displacements on the transmitter unit correspond to low speed movements. On the contrary, crane
operative speed is increased by great shiftings
u Dialogue between transmitter and receiver takes place by use of a pre-set radio frequency. An electronic device
is available, to avoid eventual interferences with other radiocontrolled units, which could lead to uncontrolled crane
operation. This electronic device is sending signal to controlbank, only after verifying that the signal is coming
from the specific transmitter unit
u Radio frequency range goes from 405 to 490 MHz. This value differs upon the country where the system is in
force. No licence for employment is necessary .

NOTE: It is recommended to carry out any technical job on the radio only after reading the following chap-
ters. You will have enough information and experience to set the system in the best way and to solve minor
anomalies.

uThis type of radio remote system is of great importance thanks to the wide range of permitted and sensitive manoeu-
vrings.
It may be fed with direct current, both 12 Volt and 24 Volt.
In case of 24 Volt voltage, the max. electrical input is 3,8 Ampere, by operating six functions at the same time.
The protection fuse, inside the receiver unit, is fit for max. 10 A.

u The standard supply consists of the following items:

1 Transmitter unit refer to chapter 2.1

2 Receiver unit refer to chapter 2.3

THE POWER OF PERFORMANCE
Radio controls - SCANRECO C4.3
The under mentioned functions are available on the transmitter unit:

2.1.1 - Emergency stop button - A - Effer codeno. 8991600 - By pushing this button, the radio remote
is put off-line. The main discharge electrovalve, placed at controlbank inlet, is not powered anymore electrically.
As a consequence, crane movements are immediately blocked. To remove the function of this button, turn it
clockwise, as shown on the red knob arrows.

2.1.2 - Proportional manipulators - B - Effer codeno. 8991554

- These manipulators, with the same configuration, are necessary to let the con-
trolbank levers move. This occurs when the user shifts the manipulator. Thus, the
crane features proportional and progressive manoeuvrings.
Replace a manipulator is a very easy technical job. Unscrew the four screws that
connect the manipulator to the transmitter unit and remove the manipulator from
its seat. For correct fitting up and operation see § 2.1.14.

2.1.3 - Green flashing lamp - C - it shows whether the function “CRANE OPERATIVITY AT REDUCED SPEED
- TURTLE MOOD“ is engaged. Given the repeated flash number, the operator understands the type of reduced
speed, knowing how many times the button is displaced on the left:
1 Left shifting: 1 flash, crane speed reduced by 60%, speed may be adjusted during “ad-hoc” programming:
next speeds are changed as well.
2 Left shifting: 2 flashes, crane speed reduced by 50%.
3 Left shifting: 3 flashes, crane speed reduced by 40%.
4 Left shifting: 4 flashes, crane speed reduced by 30%.
5 Left shifting: 5 flashes, crane speed reduced by 20%.
Max. operative crane speed is restored by turning the button right side.

2.1.4 - Red flashing lamp - D - it shows whether the radio is engaged (fix light on) or it indicates the
work periode with almost discharged battery (flashing lamp).
2.1.5 - Push button - E - EFFER codeno. 8991601, it starts the radio signal between transmitter and
receiver unit. Kindly refer to appropriate chapter to have additional information with regards to other functions
programming.
Truck electric horn may be operated with the same push botton (if electrically connected to the truck).
During job, dialogue frequence may be changed, by pushing twice quickly, should radio noises interrupt the
transmission between receiver and transmitter.
The use of a new frequency is indicated by a beep of the transmitter unit as well as by a flash of the red led. 12
different frequencies are available for the operator.
2.1.6 - Push button - F - EFFER codeno. 8991602 - it selects the work speed and it programms different
functions, that are better described in the appropriate chapter.
2.1.7 - Push button - G - it uses FPI function, if fitted.
2.1.8 - Push button - H - (once truck is connected), it has the following functions:
- LEFT side: it accelerates the truck in a continuous manner.
- RIGHT side: it accelerates the truck each time a manipulator is manoeuvred. The engine remains expedited for
additional 5 seconds, after manoeuvring is over. Thus, work phase does not suffer by quick acceleration and/or
deceleration.
Should some switch electrovalves on fly-jib be part of the supply, then the left function is used to operate them.
2.1.9 - Push button - I - (once truck is connected), it has the following functions.
- LEFT side: truck engine start.
- RIGHT side: truck engine stop.

The battery is shock-resistant and weatherproof.
It is rechargeable and it is protected against short circuits.
Once recharge is finished, the battery electrical output is approximately 7-9 Volt C.C.
The battery real life is about 8 hours for each charge.
When the battery is almost exhausted, the transmitter unit sends three sounds and the red LED starts flashing.
To ensure max. battery life, it is recommended to use the battery until the red LED is off.
After 5 minutes of no use, the transmitter unit goes to STAND-BY function, in order not to consume battery charge
in vain. Once this period of time is over, press the push button E on the unit to restore the radio control.
Battery life is shorter at low temperature. Battery is recharged automatically by connecting the transmitter unit
to the receiver.
Two batteries are part of the radio standard supply.

6. Programming the new transmitter unit is finished.

7. Take away the cable, place again the battery and operate the crane by means of the transmitter unit.

8. Should this procedure fail, repeat the programming (from point 1 to point 6).

Notes: When cable is connected, any transmitter unit may be emploied to operate the crane.

2.1.14 Check of proportional manipulator operation

1. Push the emergency stop key on the control unit.

2. Turn the emergency stop key on the control unit then push
the ON/SIGNAL/FREQ.-SHIFT push button.
3. Push ten times (10) the ON/SIGNAL/FREQ.-SHIFT push but-
ton quickly, either by cable or radio control.
4. The red LED on the control unit shall flash quickly. (If the LED is
illuminated continuously, repeat the procedure from step 1).
5. On the control unit the Test mode is now selected. Once the
switch is activated, the control unit emits a beep. (If a switch
does not activate the beep, check for a switch fault or an elec-
tronic card fault in the control unit).
6. Whenever a control lever is activated, the control unit emits
a beep and the green lamp C turns ON, and both the sound
and the light increase by shifting the lever. With the lever at its
max. shift, the control unit emits a continuous beep while the
green lamp is steady.
That condition confirms that the levers on the control unit have
been shifted at the maximum (if a control lever does not origi-
nate any beep, check for a lever fault, or for an electric connec-
tion fault, or for an electronic card fault in the control unit).

The box, with an internal printed wiring card, enables radio remote
to work together with DMU (NOTE : in case of crane fitted with DMU
and Hetronic system, the radio will be completely different from the
one of the standard crane).
Automatic operative functions established by DMU (i.e.: automatic slow down, use of FPI setting parameters, and
so on …) to radio remote are elaborated inside this electric box.
Box replacement is recommended in case of cranes not compliant with quick/slow speeds established by the
operator.

Since 2007, the box was eliminated.

The same functions are controlled by the electronic limiter DMU.

The following electric system refers to the specific circuit of the different boxes.

1 - HETRONIC Radio control

1.1 Automatic speed-reduction of the radio-controlled crane
uThe remote control in subject can be easily transformed in order to have the automatic slowing down function
of the crane working speed, such working speed can be set as in the “snail” function.
This is useful when aerial baskets are fitted to the crane: according to the law when the crane is equipped
with a basket, the working speed of the crane must be reduced automatically.
Note: On the cranes where the DMU is fitted, if the function of automatic deceleration of the operational speeds
is operated, a special speed range is also activated, independently of the adjustment of the “SNAIL” function.
u This type of connection can be carried out by applying a microswitch on the boom’s tip of the crane, so that it
can be automatically turned on when a basket is installed, or by applying a manual switch selecting the function
crane / basket, (technical choice depending on the Approval Authority) and by taking two electrical cables on the
inside of the receiver plug.
- In the standard version, there is an electrical connection between clamps 31 and 32 on the plug A connecting
all the cables of the receiver.
By interrupting such connection, the crane will move at the set REDUCED SPEEDS.

- This electrical device is combined with a 6 ways switching electrovalve (not included in the kit EFFER part # 8991108
mentioned above), and it will automatically move the extension lever in return direction as soon as it receives the
signal “oil recall” from the platform sending oil to the switching electrovalve which on its turn is automatically
positioned so as to send oil to the platform circuit itself.

u Electrical connection:
There are 3 electrical cables K1, K2 and K3 coming out
of the box and two warning lamps are on the cap.
The original connectors K6 and K7, connected to the
controlbank and coming from the remote control re-
ceiver, should be applied on the cap of the device K
(connect K7 to K5, and K6 to K4). K6
The cable K1, complete with connector equipped with
a led, is related to the connection with the main electro-
valve at the entry of the controlbank – (Normally Open),
and should be connected to K7.
The cable K2, complete with connector but without led,
is related to the connection to the controlbank activator
of the “crane extension”, or “jib extension”, and should be
connected to K6.

will increase the amount of oil while if you move
it counterclockwise you will decrease the amount
of oil sent to the platform.
There are two led indicators on the cap of the
device box:
Green: the device is activated
Yellow: the device is sending oil to the platform.
