Statement of intent for test magazine

My fashion magazine will aim to tackle topics such as the increase in popularity surrounding
fast fashion, and why this isn’t good for anyone. I want to make the front cover simple and
not too busy so that the main coverline can catch the readers attention quickly.

To create my front cover, I will get my model to wear clothes that are from / alike to fast
fashion brands and take a full body photograph of them, this will be my cover image.
Furthermore, I will also use a sans-serif font on the main coverline so it is bold and eye-
catching, allowing my point to get across quickly. On the other cover lines on my front
cover, I will include more issues with fast fashion, a giveaway at the bottom of page and an
‘INSIDE included…’ on the puff. The colour scheme of my front cover will heavily revolve
around the colours that my model is wearing on the main cover image, however the
masthead will either use black or white to keep it simple. Lastly, I plan on keeping my front
cover simple to stop it being cluttered, this will help to clearly convey my message.

My target audience is a group of young people whom are in the C1, C2, D audience
demographic and interested in fashion. These demographics stand for lower middle class,
skilled working class and working class which may suggest they don’t have enough money to
afford expensive brands and could have considered fast fashion before, without knowing
about the industry behind it. I also plan on offering alternatives to fast fashion throughout
the coverlines, as I am aware that sustainable fashion is very expensive and my target
audience may not be able to afford this.

Throughout my front cover, I will represent the topic of fast fashion by getting my model to
wear clothes which are not branded or expensive. My model will be 17 so she is within the
target audience bracket. My reasoning for this is that if the reader sees someone on the
front cover that is a similar representation to themselves, it may make them want to read
the magazine even more.

I aim to promote my magazine further by creating a website to go alongside it. This website
will be done using media conventions within my website such as hyperlinks, this will make it
simple to navigate around the website. I will also use a range of design and format
techniques to make my website pleasing too look at. The colours on my website will be
basically monochrome as I don’t want it to be unformal.

I intend to link my media products by including the same logo and design format on both
because this will make it clear to the target audience that both products are produced by
the same company. I will also include links to the social media platforms that I intend to
promote my magazine on such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
