Learning Experiences
(preschoolers)
Age(s): _3- and 4-year-olds______
Number of children: ____4____
Title of experience: ___Where’s the Bear?_

RCII-2: _Language and Literacy__

Intended Goals:
The students will move an object in relationship to another object to a specific position.
Materials:
 Small stuffed animals (one for each child)
 Small boxes (one for each child)
 Picture cards illustrating positions and vocabulary words.

Processes: (Procedures)
I will gather stuffed animals (small enough to fit inside the box) and boxes, one for each child
and for the teacher, prepare a deck of cards that have the visual representation for each if the
vocabulary words: inside, on, under, behind, beside, in front.

Teaching Strategies:
I will introduce this activity during group time and demonstrate what to do. I will then take a
group of students to the table and work with them four students at a time to make sure that
every student understands the activity. I will stack the cards face down on the table, have a
student flip the card over and they will demonstrate what to do. For example: if the card says to
put the bear behind the box, the child will place the bear behind the box. If the student is
having a hard time, I will use scaffolding for support until he/she understands. I will encourage
the students to use full sentences and show them the vocabulary words on the card so they can
match the word with the image.

DAP:
This activity is developmentally appropriate because it the student understands and uses a wide
variety of words for a variety of purposes, the student demonstrates understanding of terms
used in the instructional language of the classroom.
