POVERTY(Reaction paper)"Wars of nations are fought to change maps.

But wars of poverty are

fought to map change". - Muhammad Ali Poverty is one of the oldest, biggest, and hardest
fundamental economic problem our country is facing up until today. It is a devastating and a very
deadly problem of our society for it is "the parent of revolution and crime"(Aristotle) and "the
worst form of violence"(Gandhi). Because it is the secondary root of most economic problems,
lack of education being the primary cause.
Poverty is a threat to human security everywhere, being a multi-faceted dilemma, it affects every
aspects of human lives such as social, economic and political. It also carries variety of burdens and
adversities like infant mortality, hunger and malnutrition, diseases, illiteracy, poor economic
growth, crimes and child labor.
But where did poverty came from? Based on what we have learned there are certain factors
causing poverty. First, is the ignorance or the lack of knowledge which was primarily the result of
lack of education. Apathy, or the absence of concern to improve the living condition. Dependency,
Overpopulation and Dishonesty specially of the politicians, combined with corruption and
incompetence that leads to mistrust in our government which makes the problem harder to solve
than it already was.
Poverty is inevitable. It can be reduced but cannot be completely eradicated because even
though it is a problem without it there would no balance to the society.
The question is how do we reduce the poverty in the Philippines ?
From 2006 to 2015, data shows that robust economic growth helped the poverty rate in the
Philippines to fall by 5 percentage points. Poverty declined from 26.6 percent in 2006 to 21.6
percent in 2015, due to factors like the expansion of jobs outside agriculture, government
transfers, in particular to qualified poor Filipinos through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino
Program, and remittances.

Poverty has a huge impact to the state of the society we live in. And it is a very dreading
concern notably if we don't take action and prevent it's incessant spreading. We hope that the
government, United Nations and World Bank continue their fight against the poverty in the
Philippines and the World. But minimizing the poverty is not just their concern, it is the concern of
all and everyone is reponsible. And maybe one day, the wars we fought against poverty will give
us what we want to achieve--- a better change.
