The rapid growth in the world population is one issue that concerns the world today.

In the early 1800s,

the world population reached 1 billion people. Today that number has grown to 7,864,458,358 or
roughly 7.9 billion.

There are four considered causes of this phenomenon - the Decline in Death Rate, the Rise in Birth Rate,
Migration, and lastly, lack of education.

Death Rate Decline

The decrease in the world mortality rate is one of the major reasons for this growth in the world
population. Medical discoveries and Clinical advancements have helped man to find treatments, cures,
and remedies for then considered fatal diseases. This, in turn, has not only decreased mortality but also
helped reduce the world morbidity rate as well resulting in longevity for many. The world now wields a
double-edged sword giving it an edge over illness but faces a quandary that is overpopulation.

Birth Rate Increase

The same technological advancements in Medicine have brought new findings in the area of nutrition.
This brings forth an upsurge in human reproduction. Some medications can enhance fertility and new
treatments and clinical procedures have been discovered to aid in conception. As you can see, the sword
sharpens both ways.

Migration

In 2019, immigrants comprised 13.7 percent of the US population. That is a First-world country with
strict immigration law. In that same year, the estimated international migrants reached 272 million. How
does this bring overpopulation into the picture? Emigration versus Immigration - when these two come
together and do not agree with each other, overpopulation enters. There becomes crowding in other
parts of the world resulting in population density imbalance.

Education

Literacy also has effects on the population. The less literate a country or populace is the less
comprehension of why overpopulation is a problem to be avoided. There will be no understanding of
how this phenomenon greatly affects their day-to-day lives.

One measure often disregarded by the illiterate is Family planning. They do not partake in it thus,
abetting the rapid population growth. These people do not understand that a greater population needs
a greater number of resources.

A 1st world country may be able to take on this challenge. But for some countries, may prove incapable
of delivering sufficient resources needed for their population to thrive. Once that happens, scarcity and
shortage of resources will manifest and overpopulation will inevitably turn into a catastrophe of great
proportion.
These four causes should become more than just a concern. There should be actions or programs
developed and devoted to counteract or support the rapid world population growth.
