256million. This movie was directed by Jerrold Tarog which is the director of the movie’s
sequelGoyo: Ang batangheneral and produced by Fernando Ortigas. This movie received
critic from other countries and well known newspaper publisher like New York times says
that “Heneral Luna’ Is a Patriotic Biopic That Aspires to Epicness”. This movie portrays the
historical period when America is colonizing the Philippines, in this movie many facts are
shown for example when Heneral Luna said that he and rizal almost had a duel over a girl
and how he was actually saved by the bag of coins in his pocket that stops bullet from killing
him.Heneral Luna was prortrayed by John arcillia, Emilio Aguinaldo by Mon Confiado and
Apolinario Mabini by Jeffrey Quizon.
President Emilio Aguinaldo together with Apolinario Mabini and the whole presidential
cabinet are debating about the issue of Americans in the Philippines. In this discussion
Buencamino and Paterno supports the trade with the Americans while Heneral Luna and
Heneralalejandro want to wage war against the Amercans. Aguinaldo assured to the cabinet
that the Americans had promised to help win freedom from the colonizer Spanish people.
Somewhat the Americans invaded some key cities in manila, indicating a possible war
against Filipinos. Heneral Luna and his trusted comrades fought against the Americans in
kawit and seeks reinforcement to commander Janolino but refuses to comply because the
order didn’t come from the president. Luna then angrily marches to Janolino camp and
humiliated Janolino in front of his comrades. As the goes on Paterno and Buencamino still
indicates their support proposal to the americans which led for them to be arrested ordered
by Heneralluna.Luna visits Aguinaldo and Mabini to file his resignation, knowing that
Buencamino and Paterno had been set free. Aguinaldo refuses to accept his resignation, but
agrees to let Luna establish a headquarters for the Philippine Army in the north.Later, Luna
is summoned by a telegram to the President’s headquarters in Cabanatuan. Although his
officers are suspicious, Luna rides to Cabanatuan, bringing only Román and Rusca with him.
Most of the soldiers had already left headquarters under Aguinaldo's orders, with the
exception of some elements of the Kawit Battalion. Luna discovers upon arrival that
Aguinaldo had already left and only Buencamino remains in the office. As they exchange
heated words, a single shot is fired outside. Luna investigates and encounters Captain
Janolino and his men, who attack him. Luna is shot, stabbed, and hacked repeatedly to
death. Román is also killed while a wounded Rusca surrenders to the Kawit soldiers. Most of
Luna's remaining loyal officers are arrested, while some are killed, including the Bernal
brothers. As ordered by Aguinaldo, Luna and Román are buried with full military honors by
the Kawit Battalion the same men who killed them. Mabini, who is among the mourners,
notices a bloodied Bolo of one of the soldiers; however, the Kawit Battalion would be
exonerated thereafter. Joven hernando is not a true character but Lieutenant Garcia is.
Lieutenant Garcia was one of luna sharpshooters that volunteers to scare the American who
is having a supper in a kubo.
There is aninterview that historian in De Lasalle University professor Xiao Chua said that
there’s no solid evidence to support claims that Aguinaldo had killed luna. "In the historical
record, hinditalaga ma-pinpoint nasi Aguinaldo talaga ang nag-utos (ng pagpatay kay
Luna)," Chua said in an interview on ANC on Monday."We have here an account by Antonio
Abad when he interviewed Pedro Janolino at sinasabiditonaself-defenselang daw
'yungginawanila," Chua said, while holding a book by Dr.Vivencio Jose."When Antonio Luna
was coming down the stairs, nakitaniyagalitnagalitsi Antonio, pinagmumurasila. 'Sino ang
nagpaputok?'" he added.Chua said that according to the interview, Janolino was so afraid
that Luna might kill him and his men that they killed him first."Kasi di ba, Artikulo Uno:
papatayinsila 'pag 'di silasumunod. Natakot daw siyanabakapatayinsilainunahanniyanai-
hack," he shared. But the problem, Chua pointed out, is: "Paanomonamanie-explain 'yung 30
stab and gunshot wounds?". And according to the professor those gunshot wounds and
stabs are from Aguinaldos men these leads to unsolved crime in the Philippine history.
But according to an interview of Teodoro Agoncillo there there two lunas and two mabinis.
He said in an interview that “there were two sides to Mabini—one pro-Luna and the other
anti-Luna; and second, that there were two Lunas—one who was against the Philippine
Revolution against Spain in 1896, and the other who fought in the Filipino-American
War.That was Aguinaldo’s mistake. Granted, Luna was assassinated. Why did he not order
the investigation of those people who assassinated Luna? That was his responsibility. I’m
not pro-Aguinaldo or pro-Bonifacio. I judge a person on the basis of the documents
available. If the time comes that I am proved wrong and other documents are shown, then I’ll
accept it. Conclusions are not final, because nobody can say that I have exhausted all my
sources. No! Ang anti-Aguinaldo siVivencio Jose, masyadong pro-Luna. This is the kind of
thinking I do not like. There are some claims biased to other sides but this states clearly that
Teodoro agoncillo is in the neutral part. In the movie of course Heneralluna is mainly the
hero of it and he’s accomplishments but according to historians there are many sides, not
only the good ones but also the bad ones. Clearly the movie states some facts about
Heneralluna and his accomplishment as a General of a revolutionary army but not all the
facts.
