Mode of operation
The jockey pump starts and stops automatically, ensur-
ing pressurisation of the fire-fighting network in the event
of leaks and preventing unjustified starting of the duty
pumps.
When the network pressure drops, the first duty pump
is started automatically by the pressure switches (two
redundant); if present on the pumping set, the second
duty pump is activated automatically if the network pres-
sure drops further.
The duty pumps can be stopped only manually by press-
ing the specific button on the front door of the control
panel.
The standard scope of supply always includes an adjust-
able timer to automatically shut down the duty pump that
permits operation as described in the UNI 10779 stand-
ard (A.1.2). The user can activate the function during
commissioning, if necessary.
Specific selectors, allow every single pump to be started
and stopped at any time, useful also for the commission-
ing and the periodic operation check required by the EN
12845 standard.

The modular construction concept applied to the Hydro EN range makes transport, handling and positioning at the place
of installation easier; all pumping sets are supplied in macro blocks, usually split as:
• a baseplate for duty pump, jockey pump, relevant control panels with brackets, hydraulic components,
• in the case of pumping sets with two duty pumps, the second macro block includes a second baseplate for the second
stand-by pump, control panel with brackets, hydraulic components.
The arrangement of the parts provides immediate reading of the measurement instruments and signals, making the opera-
tions necessary during the commissioning and the periodic checks of the pumping unit easier.

pump;
• 1x diaphragm tank pre-charged at the factory for the
optimal jockey pump operation.
Accessories (see dedicated paragraph) can be provided
to complete the supply, including:
• One suction kit for positive or suction head installa-
tion including eccentric divergent pipe with controlled

11. Installation
Installation

The criteria for installing fire-fighting sets are described

in the EN 12845 and UNI 11292 standards in the rel-
evant paragraphs. Refer to these standards and those
listed in them for all the necessary guidelines.
In order for the pumping set to perform efficiently, it is
important that the suction pipes comply with the crite-
ria listed in the EN 12845 (10.6.2) standard regarding
the water speed in the pipes (1.8 m/s for positive head
installation and 1.5 m/s for suction lift installation).
The suction kit, which should be chosen according to
the type of installation (see the dedicated paragraph), is
proposed as an accessory to complete the supply.
The points of the EN 12845 standard regarding the
installation type are summarised below.

Positive head installation

In accordance with the EN 12845, standard, it is recom-
mended that the pumping sets for fire-fighting have to be
installed in positive head and according to the following
conditions:
• at least two-thirds of the volume of the water reserve
above the level of the duty pump axis,
• the minimum water level in the inlet tank is no more
than 2 metres below the level of the pump axis,
• a foot valve must be installed if the axis of the duty
pump is above the minimum level of the water to be
sucked.

Suction lift installation

The pumping sets for fire-fighting can be installed in suc-
tion lift as long as the following conditions are met:
• the minimum water level in the inlet tank must be no
more than 3,2 metres below the level of the pump
axis,
• a foot valve must be installed in the lowest point of
the inlet pipe.

head and the suction head losses that has to be
evaluated by the designer. The NPSHr value can be
found in the performance curve chapter.

Cooling flow
As specified in the EN 12845 (10.5) standard, a device
to meet the following functional purposes must be
installed on the pumping set:
• to prevent overheating when the pump operates
against close valves conditions (called recirculation);
• to supply the water/water heat exchanger for diesel
engine cooling (if present on the engine).
The minimum flow rate values necessary to meet the
purposes listed above are stated in the specific table in
the performance curves and technical data paragraph.

13. Data and performance of the duty pumps

Data and performance

The complete performance curves and the technical data for each pump are shown in the specific charts, while the single
duty pump performance is indicated below in table format for easy selection.
The values shown can be used entirely, and the last point is not the end of the curve.
• The part having NPSHr values less than or equal to 5 m is highlighted with a grey background.
• The section without grey background indicates pump performance at an NPSHr value of 7 m that is the maximum limit
suggested.
In any case, check that the standard (10.6.2.2) condition is met when choosing the pump for the actual state of
installation: NPSHd ≥ NPSHr +1 [m].
A portion of the flow rate delivered by the pump is used as a cooling flow (specific data shown on the pump performance
curves) and therefore it must be added to the design flow rate, as specified by the EN12845 (10.5) standard.

Pos. Description
A Indicates the size of the pump installed on the set.
B Indicates the diameter (in mm) of the impeller installed on the duty pumps
C The section in bold of the curve indicates the performance (Q - H) corresponding to an NPSHr less than 5 m.
You should not select the pumping set for performance left of the section in bold.
D Indicates the limit of 5 m of NPSHr.
E Indicates the maximum NPSHr 7 m limit suggested for using this pump.
F Power curve absorbed by the pump [P2].
G NPSHr curve extended up to 16 m regarding the maximum impeller diameter which can be housed in this pump.
H NPSHr curve extended up to 16 m regarding the minimum impeller diameter which can be housed in this pump.

I Pumping set.
L Electric motor power installed on the duty electrical pump (if present)
M Rated current regarding the electric motor installed on the duty electrical pump (if present)
N Flow rate of the recirculation circuit installed on the duty electrical pump.
O Cooling system used by the diesel engine (if present):
¡: direct air-cooled engine
l: engine liquid-cooled by a water/water heat exchanger.
P Rated power of the diesel engine compliant with the ISO 3046 standard:
The first number indicates the power available for fire-fighting use, while the second number (in brackets) indicates the
rated power supplied by the engine.
Q In the case of sets equipped with air-cooled motors, it indicates the flow of the recirculation circuit on the Duty diesel
driven pump.
In the case of liquid-cooled motors, the number indicates the cooling flow rate of the diesel engine (it also acts as recircu-
lation for the pump coupled to the diesel engine).
R Version of Jockey pump installed
S Electric motor power installed on the Jockey electrical pump (if present)
T Rated current regarding the electric motor installed on the Jockey electrical pump (if present)
