This parts announcement introduces new tappet part numbers that have been released for the V28 engine. Modifi-
cations have been made to the tappet design to improve the service life of these parts.
It is recommended that new tappets be used at rebuild and at any camshaft replacement to gain maximum durability.
Tappet Modifications:
A material with increased wear resistance has been introduced for the injector and valve tappet roller pins. The letter
M punched on one side, as indicated in Figure 1, can be used to identify the new pin material.
The injector pins are silver in color because they are plated with tin, while the valve pins are a yellow color, as they
are not plated.
The valve tappet pin was Part Number 113749; the new valve tappet pin (1) is Part Number 4071443.
The valve roller has an improved surface finish for increased durability. The valve tappet roller was Part Number
3006699, the new valve tappet roller is Part Number 4083877.
The injector tappet pin was Part Number 163815; the new injector tappet pin (2) is Part Number 4071444.
These changes have resulted in releasing new part numbers for the tappet assemblies. New tappet part numbers are
shown in the table below.
