length.
Stacked pipes will be stored at shaded store or covered properly to
avoid ultra violet degradation.
Pipes are different sizes or wall thickness will be stored separately
whenever applicable. Where this is not possible, those with larger
diameter and or thickness will be placed at the bottom of the stack.
All pipe fittings will be stored and protected in boxes & categorized size
wise.
TRANSPORT
When transferring pipes from the store to site, care should be taken to
avoid impact and to ensure that the temporary site storage (the
surface where pipes shall be laid to be processed, joint) is free of any
sharp objects or harmful debris.
Where mechanical handling is employed, metal slings, hooks and
chains must not come in direct contact with the pipe surface.
While in transient, pipe shall be well secured and well supported.
Pipes maybe transported by rolling them gently over the timbers
without causing any impact on the pipe surface.

locations, fixture inlets/outlets pipes, and gully traps locations as per the
approved WSD’s wherever this marking is necessary.
The route, dimensions, levels of pipes will be as per approved WSD’s,
manufacturer’s instructions for laying, jointing, and installation of the
pipes.
Pipes connected to the sanitary fixtures (W.C’s, W.B’s, FT’s, Shower
Drains, sink) shall rise up the assigned opening until the connected
fixture is installed
When a pipe penetration requires special protection, a PVC sleeve
shall be provided. This sleeve location shall be as per WSD’s and shall
be marked accordingly (maintaining the pipe gradient). Installed
sleeve shall have an outside diameter wide enough to secure the pipe
passage freely without affecting its slope.
Scaffoldings shall be erected according to the Work Zones.
Hangers’ Threaded rods shall by installed by approved anchors in
accordance with the previously marked routes.
Spacing between hangers shall be as per the approved shop
drawings; loading calculations could be conducted if necessary.
Rubber lined split clamps shall be connected to the installed threaded
rods. Claps’ sizes shall be suitable for the carried pipes size.
Pipes shall be hanged to the clamps in sections; then they shall be
securely fastened to the encompassing clamp.
PIPE LAYING
Pipe gradients and slopes as per WSD’s shall be accomplished, adjusted, and
maintained throughout the pipe laying processes. Pipe gradient shall be regularly
checked with the spirit level after each process to ensure that in no case shall this
gradient be compromised.

PIPE JOINTING
Selection of the pipe joint (Whether push-fit rubber ring, or Solvent Cement) shall
be as approved material submittal for the drainage piping. Basically the 50 mm
DIA and below shall be solvent cement welded, 80 mm DIA and above shall be
Push-Fit joint unless the site conditions dictates otherwise.
uPVC pipes with integral Push-fit (R/R) sockets shall be joint into socket
up to the insertion mark previously made after making sure that the
pipes are aligned both in horizontal and vertical planes.
Joints shall be checked after the pipe is in final position to ensure they
are sound, tight, and intact.
The expansion/contraction of pipes carrying soil and waste (within
normal temperature medium) shall be accommodated and absorbed
by the Push-fit (R/R) socket and no expansion joints are needed.
The End of Drainage pipe End Cap must be provided.
Solvent Cement socket pipes (For 2 inch pipe and below as per
BS5255).
Anchors are not required as the solvent cement joints will easily sustain
loads created by internal fluid pressure.
If the pipes are laid in hot weather, the temp. of the pipes shall be
reduced before making final connections.
PIPE JOINTING
Selection of the pipe joint (Whether push-fit rubber ring, or Solvent Cement) shall
be as approved material submittal and project specification.

Carefully clean, examine the spigot, rubber sealing ring & the inside of
the socket.
Form a loop and insert the rubber ring with the thickest edge innermost.
Allow ring to seat evenly around the groove, finally snapping into
position by pressing down on the remaining portion of the loop.
Lubricate the chamfered end of the pipe a min. distance of ½ of the
spigot length.
Push pipe into socket up to the insertion mark previously made after
making sure that the pipes are aligned both in horizontal and vertical
planes.
Solvent cement and cleaner should be stored in a cool and dry place;
never dilute the solvent cement with any other fluid.
Replace lid of the cement container as soon as the cement is applied
and observe the instructions on the container body and manufacturer
recommendations.
Mark depth of entry of the spigot and the alignment mark.
Thoroughly abrade spigot and socket bonding surfaces using
sandpaper. Then clean the surfaces with proper cleaning fluid.
Using a clean brush, cement shall be applied evenly and in one coat
to spigot and socket in longitudinal strokes. If loose fits can still be
found, a second coat shall be applied to the spigot end.
Immediately and without twisting, spigot shall be inserted into socket
until entry-mark; and shall be held in position for second’s then excess

Install plugs, gauges, temporary vertical pipes, etc. and all the
necessary instruments required to carry out the required hydrostatic
test. Make sure that the water supplied for the test comes from a
source that can deliver the required pressure for the test.
Slowly fill the pipe with water with special care for air removal while
filling. All entrapped air shall be released before the hydrostatic test
begins.
Gradually raise the pressure in the system/section being tested up to
the specified above pressure limit. From the timing point of view, the
test can be said to have started once the test pressure is reached.
The system shall remain under pressure for 2 hours. If the water level
drops due to reasons other than leakage (entrapped air, accidental
water spill, etc) refill up to the specified level and start the test period
again from zero time.
The pipe shall be judged to have passed the test if the quantity of
water required to restore original water level does not exceed the
amount specified by the pipe manufacturer that accounts for the
elastic characteristics and high thermal expansion of uPVC.
An IR shall be raised before conducting the above test procedures so
that the test can be witnessed by the Consultant to certify the
drainage system tightness.
Water shall be drained slowly and carefully from the system and Keep
some water inside the pipe for monitoring purpose and remaining
removal water shall be carried out from selected pipe points to ensure
utmost draining to the draining points provided by the Contractor.

Statement and ITP. A lesson learned training and awareness program will be
conducted on a weekly basis to give the project team information and comments
based on installation and quality related issue in the site and in the project as a
whole.
WORKING HOURS
As per main contractor timing. Any changes or additional working hours will be
advised to the main contractor and consultant as well.
HOUSE KEEPING
Working Areas will be kept clean by disposing the waste materials at the designated
areas. At the end of days’ work, installation supervisor will ensure that the debris are
disposed off.
