In today’s society, there is no quick fix to ensure that all women are treated fairly in the
workplace. For years, women have been treated unfairly in the workplace and this is a topic we
must strive to reconstruct. There are times when women at work feel neglected due to not having
their concerns taken seriously, not being provided with the same projects as their colleagues who
are men and continuing to be overlooked for job promotions because they were born a woman.
As Hillary Clinton once said, "To all the little girls who are watching, never doubt that you are
valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and
achieve your own dreams (H.,Clinton. 2016, Concession Speech).”
As Governor, I will strive to implement a plan to ensure that all women are treated
equally and fairly in the workplace. Today I encourage you to pursue your dreams and know
that you hold power, no matter what society tells you. I have a strong team of men and women
behind me who support my decisions on making our community better by offering equal pay for
women within the work force. Society has failed to allow women to show their true greatness
and strength. They want women to feel useless, so much that they devalue our worth in the real
world and even in cartoon movies. There are rarely any movies that show a mother figure who
has not passed on or who is not a deadbeat. “Show an animated kids’ movie that has a named
mother in it who lives until the credits roll. (A., Alexander: J. Hanson, 2019 Taking Sides,
Clashing Views in Media and Society).” As Governor, I will be sure to show the world that
women can do what a man can do, if not more.
Not only is the fair treatment of women in the workplace a topic that needs to be
addressed, this is a topic that needs to be resolved. There are single women all over the world
who are raising children on their own because their husbands have left them. Not only are men
getting paid more than us, they are able to provide more for themselves instead of their children.
Although we have made great strides in our place of employment, “The US Bureau reports that
women earn 8o percent of what men are paid, (J.Paul, 2018, Harvard.edu).” Of course, there are
people who disagree with me and some of these women include stay at home moms who have
never lifted a finger to work. Gender stereotypes are already hard to break, but we must come
together as women to defeat the lack of pay that we receive.
I had someone argue with me and say that it is fair and ethical for a woman to be paid
less than a man. They told me it was fair because the woman is supposed to sit at home while the
man worked and provided for his family. What I have to say about that is, two incomes are better
than one. There is nothing wrong with women and their achievements and over the past few
decades, we have been able to catch up with men. We’ve been able to catch up with their
education and the work they do on the job. “Women are doing their part. For more than 30 years,
they’ve been earning more bachelor’s degrees than men. They’re asking for promotions and
negotiating salaries at the same rates as men. And contrary to conventional wisdom, they are
staying in the workforce at the same rate as men, (A., Krikovich, M., Nadeu, 2018
Mckinsey.com).” With that in mind, it is time to take action.
If you choose me as Governor not only will I make a woman feel like she is worth more,
I will ensure that she is paid more. Together we will map a path to gender equality and fight for
our rights. We will fight for our rights to earn more income for our families and show the world
why we deserve for our pay to be increased. This by far will be an easy job, but as I stated before
I have a strong team of women and men behind me who feel the same way that we all do. As
Diane Mariechild once said, “A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create,
nurture and transform,” and together we will unite and transform.
