PREFACE

Ain-ul-Arifeen (The Eye of Mystics) is the rarest book of Sultan

Bahoo, the renowned Saint all over the world. This short book
contains the crux of all his teachings and is like an abridged form
of his books. He has declared the book as a touchstone for the
researchers and a guide towards Allah for those who cannot find
a spiritual guide.
It is a great blessing of my spiritual guide Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen
Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman, the spiritual heir of Sultan
Bahoo and contemporary leader of his order, to grant me the
opportunity of translating Sultan Bahoo‟s books in English. His
intention behind this magnificent work is to spread the Saint‟s
teachings in the entire world for all times to come. So that every
true seeker of Allah may be guided towards Him, no matter
where he is in the world.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen provided three scripts of Ain-ul-Arifeen to
me for its English translation and to Ahsan Ali Sarwari Qadri for
Urdu translation.
First is the Persian manuscript of Ain-ul-Arifeen that was found
in 1977 in a collection of manuscripts of few books of Sultan
Bahoo from the library of Sayyid Sultan Shah, Jacobabad Sindh,
Pakistan. The name of writer is not mentioned on it although the
year of writing is mentioned as 1209 AH. Other books whose
manuscripts are present in this collection are; Sultan-ul-Waham,
Talmeez-ur-Rehman, Majalisa-tul-Nabi, Mohabbat-ul-Asrar,
Fazal-ul-Laqa, Ain-ul-Faqr, Deedar Bakhsh (Khurd), Deedar
Bakhsh (Kalan) and Mohkim-ul-Fuqara.
Second is the manuscript of Ain-ul-Arifeen written by Doctor
Mohammad Sadiq from District Mansehra, Pakistan. The date of
writing is mentioned as Friday, 23rd January 1987 AD (22
8

Jumada al-Awwal 1407 AH). Although he has not mentioned

that from which manuscript he copied it but it seems to be copied
from the aforementioned manuscript found from the library of
Sayyid Sultan Shah, as both the scripts are almost the same. Both
have a number of mistakes as well as missing words and
sentences. Moreover many verses and Hadiths are unnecessarily
repeated again and again.
Third is the published script of Ain-ul-Arifeen along with Urdu
translation by Doctor K.B. Naseem in 1998. He has mentioned in
the preface that he has translated the manuscript by Doctor
Mohammad Sadiq from District Mansehra and that he could not
find any other script of Ain-ul-Arifeen for comparison and
corrections. He has also discussed that the script was full of
errors hence he had to make corrections. However it greatly
needed to be further corrected.
Ahsan Ali Sarwari Qadri corrected the script to a large extent
while composing it. Afterwards I also made necessary amendments
during translation according to my ability. Moreover the
repeated content was removed. It is essential to mention that we
made all the corrections after mutual consultation and consent. I
would like to thank Ahsan Ali for his cooperation in all matters.
Sultan-ul-Faqr publications is presenting first ever proper Persian
script of Ain-ul-Arifeen along with its Urdu and English
translation. May Allah accept our efforts and make this book a
source of guidance for the seekers of Allah. Ameen

SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF
SULTAN BAHOO

Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sultan Bahoo was born on Thursday, 1st of

Jumada ath-thani in 1039 AH (17 January, 1630 AD) at dawn,
in the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in Shorkot, District
Jhang, Pakistan (then India). He belonged to the Awan tribe of
the progeny of Ali ibn Abi Talib. Awans are Ali‟s children from
wives other than Fatima bint Mohammad. Sultan Bahoo‟s father
Bazayd Mohammad was a soldier by profession and a titleholder
in Shah Jahan‟s army. His mother, Bibi Rasti was a Saint. She
was spiritually informed of Sultan Bahoo‟s grandeur and
spiritual status before his birth and according to his status of
annihilation in Hoo1, his name Bahoo (one with Hoo ) was
revealed to her. Sultan Bahoo says:

Explanation: Bahoo‟s mother named him Bahoo because Bahoo
has always remained with Hoo .
Sultan Bahoo was a Saint by birth. He remained engrossed in
heavenly experiences and doubtless revelations from his early
age. Sultan Bahoo gained his early mystic education from his
mother. A non-Muslim would immediately recite shahada and
accept Islam if his eyes fell upon the luminous face of Sultan
Bahoo, such was the intensity of Divine theophanies radiating
from him.
Sultan Bahoo states in his books, “I searched for a spiritual guide
for thirty years but in vain”. It was because he already held such

elevated levels of Faqr where access of anyone is extremely

arduous. Sultan Bahoo relates one of his revelations in his books
that one day, engrossed in Allah‟s vision, he was wandering in
the suburbs of Shorkot when Ali ibn Abi Talib came and took
him to the Mohammadan Assembly where the People of Cloak,
the Rashidun Caliphs and Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani were also
present. There, Sultan Bahoo took oath of allegiance at the sacred
hand of Prophet Mohammad who entrusted him to Shaikh Abdul
Qadir Jilani for further spiritual guidance. That is why Sultan
Bahoo always refers Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani as his spiritual
guide in his books. He says, “When al-Ghawth al-Azam Shaikh
Abdul Qadir Jilani blessed me spiritually, I surpassed all the
spiritual levels from eternal beginning till the eternal end.”
Afterwards, following the orders of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani,
Sultan Bahoo took oath of allegiance at the hand of Shaikh
Abdul Rehman Jilani Dehlvi who entrusted the Divine Trust of
Faqr to Sultan Bahoo in just a single meeting.
The splendour of Sultan Bahoo is beyond anyone‟s speculation.
He is blessed with the extremities of Faqr and stationed at the
status of Sultan-ul-Faqr V. He says, “Since the eternal benevolence
has graced me with grandeur, Prophet Mohammad sall’Allahu
alayhi wa’alihi wasallam has ordered me to guide everyone,
Muslim or non-Muslim, fortunate or unfortunate, dead or alive
and he has titled me Mustafa Sani and Mujtaba Aakhir Zamani
with his pearl divulging tongue.” (Risala Roohi Sharif)
The spiritual order of Sultan Bahoo is Sarwari Qadri order.
Qadri order reaches up till Prophet Mohammad through Shaikh
Abdul Qadir Jilani. There are two offshoots of Qadri order;
Zahidi Qadri and Sarwari Qadri. Sultan Bahoo declares only
Sarwari Qadri order the proper and real Qadri order. He says:
 Qadri order has two offshoots; Sarwari Qadri and Zahidi
Qadri. Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide has perfect command
over contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. When he blesses the
11

seeker with the spiritual education and Divine guidance

through Ism-e-Allah Zaat, he grants him the status equal to
his own on the very first day. The seeker becomes indifferent
and independent of all needs, his attention remains focused
only on the Truth. Hence gold and soil become equal for him.
On the contrary, the follower of Zahidi Qadri order has to
devote at least twelve years to very hard mystic struggles, so
much so that his stomach remains empty. After twelve years
he becomes eligible to be present before Shaikh Abdul Qadir
Jilani and attains the status of a majdhub devotee while the
status of a Sarwari Qadri is that of a beloved devotee. (Kaleed-
ul-Tauheed Kalan)

He describes the status of Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide and

devotees in these words:
 What is the initial level of Sarwari Qadri? It is that the perfect
Qadri spiritual guide drowns the true seeker of Allah in Divine
light of gnosis and grants him presence of Mohammadan
Assembly just by his glance, the contemplation of Ism-e-
Allah Zaat, the invocation of shahada or by his spiritual
attention. This is the first day lesson of Qadri followers. The
guide who neither knows this lesson nor takes his disciples
to the holy assembly is not the perfect Qadri spiritual guide.
His state of ecstasy is just his vain thought. The true Qadri
disciples are eternally drowned in the Divine light of gnosis
and union with Allah. (Kaleed-ul-Tauheed Kalan)
Sultan Bahoo himself holds this status. He says:

Explanation: For every true seeker of Allah I render my
guidance. I can take him from the initial stage of the spiritual
journey to the final and supreme level in just a moment. Come to
12

me! Come to me! Come to me O seeker of Allah! I can take you

to Allah on the very first day.
Sultan Bahoo could not avail the opportunity to receive formal
academic education because he was ever absorbed in the deep
ocean of Divine Unity, even then he has authored 140 books. All
of his books are in Persian except the collection of his poetry
which is in the form of Punjabi quatrains.
Sultan Bahoo‟s books are masterpiece of Divine knowledge. He
proclaims that if anyone could not find a spiritual guide, his
books will prove to be a medium for him to reach the perfect
Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide who will take him to Allah.
Sultan Bahoo‟s writing style is very simple and easy to
understand even for a less educated person. However, at some
places where he mentions the Divine secrets, his diction becomes
complicated. Nevertheless, his writings are so persuasive and
influential that they envelop the reader completely. If his books are
read respectfully after ablution, an ocean of spiritual beneficence
pours down to the reader. If the reader continues reading them
with complete faith and true intention, he will be guided towards
the perfect Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide who is the real spiritual
successor of Sultan Bahoo in the contemporary age.
Urdu translations of Sultan Bahoo‟s following books are

Sultan Bahoo has not used the conventional terms of Sufism or
Mysticism for his teachings, rather he calls them „Faqr‟. Faqr is
the spiritual way which leads to the Divine knowledge and vision
of Allah. In all his books, he lays emphasis on acquiring Faqr
under the guidance of a Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide. He
declares the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat
the key to ultimate sanctity and purgation of soul after which the
soul is blessed with the vision of Allah and presence in the
14

Mohammadan Assembly which are the most elevated spiritual

stations.
Sultan Bahoo says in his books that despite all his efforts he
could not find a truly capable seeker of Allah to whom he could
entrust the Divine Trust of Faqr for the future guidance of
seekers. Hence, on the 1st of Jumada ath-thani in 1102 AH (1st
March, 1691 AD) he passed away without transferring the Trust
to anyone. Afterwards Sultan Bahoo entrusted it spiritually to
Sayyid Mohammad Abdullah Shah Madni Jilani. The shrine of
Sultan Bahoo is in Jhang, Pakistan. His death anniversary is held
on the first Thursday of Jumada ath-thani.2
After Sultan Bahoo, the Sarwari Qadri order is continued as:
 Sultan-ul-Tarikeen Sultan Sayyid Mohammad Abdullah
Shah Madni Jilani
 Sultan-ul-Sabireen Sultan Pir Mohammad Abdul Ghafoor
Shah Hashmi Qureshi
 Shahbaz-e-Arifaan Sultan Pir Sayyid Mohammad Bahadur
Ali Shah Kazmi al-Mashhadi
 Sultan-ul-Auliya Sultan Mohammad Abdul Aziz
 Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali
 Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman

TERMINOLOGY

ALIF
Alif (‫ )ا‬is the first letter of Arabic alphabets that gives the sound
of „A‟ and represents the name Allah ‫ اللہ‬which also starts with
Alif.

ANNIHILATION
Annihilation is translated from Arabic word Fana (‫)
Annihilation and immortality are two stages that form a
compound in spirituality, annihilation alone is incomplete.
Annihilation has various stages and continues according to the
spiritual capacity until nothing but Divine Essence adorns the
man within. The three levels are annihilation in the spiritual
guide, the Holy Prophet and Allah.

APPREHENSIONS
It is used for the mystical term khatarat (‫ )رطخات‬which are the
thoughts that become an obstacle in the spiritual way.

BELIEVER
The Arabic word Mumin (‫ )مومن‬is translated as the believer or
faithful. A believer can be distinguished from a Muslim as a
Muslim accepts Islam verbally or just because he is born in a
Muslim family. He follows Islam only outwardly but the believer
reaches the essence of Islam following the spiritual path and
worships Allah while beholding Him with perfect faith.
Following verse explains the difference:

Meaning: The bedouins say, “We have believed.” Say, “You
have not (yet) believed. Rather say, „We have accepted Islam.‟
And the belief has not yet gone into your inwards.” (49:14)

CONCENTRATION
It refers to the mystic term Tafakkar (‫ )رکفت‬and means pondering
over spiritual matters. Allah stresses upon the believers in Quran
to ponder over the things in the universe. In Faqr concentration
is compulsory along with invocation to have gnosis of Allah.

CONTEMPLATION
Mystically, contemplation refers to spiritual practice of Tasawur
(‫ )وصتر‬which is to contemplate the name of Allah ‫اللہ‬ in a

particular manner after taking oath of allegiance at the hand of

perfect spiritual guide. When the seeker elevates spiritually, his
contemplation also elevates and becomes stronger.
DAWAT

Dawat (‫ )دعوة‬is a spiritual act to communicate with the souls of

shrines to seek their help and beneficence. Its knowledge is
called ilm-e-dawat.

DAY OF DIVINE COVENANT

In pre-existence Allah created the souls of mankind from Divine
light of Prophet Mohammad. Then He asked the souls:
ُ َ
Meaning: Am I not your Lord? (7:172)
17

ُ َ
Meaning: They said, “Yes!” (7:172)
The promise made that day (though time was not created then) is
translated as Divine covenant and it is called the day of Divine
covenant.

DIVINE COMMAND ‘BE! AND IT BECOMES’

„Be! And it becomes‟ is the command of Allah and is mentioned
several times in the Quran. Transliteration is Kun Fayakun ( ‫کن‬

The word or command spoken by Allah when He decides

upon a thing is Kun ( ‫ )کن‬which means „Be!‟ and „it becomes‟

immediately which is for the Quranic phrase Fayakun (‫)فیکون‬.

DIVINE FAVOUR
For the Quranic term toufeeq (‫ )توفیق‬meaning the help and
strength provided by Almighty Allah to the seeker to perform
any task, to cross any spiritual station or pass a trial.

DIVINE LIGHT

Arabic Nur (‫)نور‬, refers to the non-creation Divine power which

enables the seeker to have vision of Allah. The Unknowable and
Transcendent Divine Essence first of all manifested Himself in
the form of Nur and that was the Nur of Mohammad which is the
foundation of creation and is concealed in everything of the
cosmos. Whoever reaches the Nur in his inner being by
following the spiritual path, comes in light from darkness and
finds the Reality.
18

DIVINE LOVE OR LOVE FOR ALLAH

The Persian mystic term Ishq (‫ )عشق‬is translated as the Divine

love or love of Allah. It is not the love of Allah amongst other
loves such as love of family, wealth, world, hereafter etc. rather
it is specific to that intense love for Allah which dominates and
removes the love for all other things except Him. Only the
Divine love is true love.

DIVINE UNION
For the Arabic term visal (‫)وصال‬, becoming one with Allah after
annihilating in Him.

DIVINE VISION
Beholding Allah with the inward eyes on spiritually reaching the
realm of Divinity. It is from the Quranic word Liqa (‫ )لقا‬and in

Persian it is Deedar-e-Elahi (‫)

ESOTERIC SELF
For the Arabic term Batin (‫)باطن‬. The Mystics have revealed that
the spiritual or esoteric being of humans has seven layers or
parts;

1) The innerself (nafs ‫)

2) The inward (qalb ‫)

3) The soul (ruh ‫)

4) The secret (sir’r ‫)

5) The hidden (khafi ‫)

19

6) The concealed (akhfa ‫)

7) The core (Ana ‫ )انا‬which is the Divine Essence.

The spiritual journey of human starts from nafs and accomplishes

when he reaches Ana i.e. finds the Divine Essence within
himself. The esoteric self also includes all the spiritual realms of
Sufi cosmology.

FAKIR
Fakir (‫ )ریقف‬comes from the Arabic word Faqr (‫)فقر‬. He is the one
who travels the path of Faqr.

FAQR

Faqr (‫ )فقر‬is the path that leads the seeker of Allah to Divine
closeness and vision. Prophet Mohammad was blessed with it on
the night of Miraj and it is his Sunna. He said:
Meaning: Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me.

GHARIB
According to the teachings of Sultan Bahoo Gharib )‫ (رغبی‬is
such a Fakir who has negated everything except Allah and there is
ُ
nothing inside him other than Hoo (‫)ھو‬.

GNOSIS
The Arabic word marifa (‫ )معرفۃ‬is translated as gnosis of Allah.
It is the vastest term of mysticism that gives a new meaning at
every spiritual level. Basically it refers to the knowledge and
recognition of Allah which keeps on increasing as the lover of
20

Allah progresses towards His closeness, hence reveals new

dimensions at every stage. It includes vision of Allah, knowledge
of His Essence and attributes, acquiring the attributes, annihilating
in Him and finally becoming one with the Essence having His
ultimate gnosis. Since Allah is Infinite, His marifa is also endless.
The invocation and contemplation of Allah‟s personal name ‫
are the foundation of marifa. It can be gained from the inner
sources like the intuitive and inspired knowledge as well as outer
sources like the spiritually effective Sufi teachings and the words
of the perfect spiritual guide.
ُ
HOO (‫)ھو‬
ُ
Hoo (‫ )ھو‬is the Essence of Allah. It is used many times in the

Quran for Allah:

Meaning: He (Hoo ‫ ) ُھو‬is Allah, besides Whom there is no God.

(59:22)

IMMORTAL WITH ALLAH

Baqa Billah )‫)بقا باللہ‬: At this station the seeker even crosses the
station of „annihilation in Allah‟. He gains immortality with
Allah on being attributed with His attributes. At this level he is
called „the Mystic immortal with Allah (Arif Billah ‫‟)عارف باللہ‬
and is appointed on the throne of Divine guidance and
persuasion as the perfect spiritual guide.
21

INNERSELF

Innerself refers to the Arabic word nafs (‫)نفس‬. The nafs has four
layers or levels. Each layer annihilates into the next upon its
purgation and the nafs elevates to next level. The first layer
incites man to commit sin and is called an-nafs al-ammarah
ّ ‫ )نفس‬i.e. the inciting innerself. On purification, it elevates to
next layer which blames and repents on committing sin. It is called
an-nafs al-lawwamah (‫نفس لوامہ‬
ِ ) i.e. the repenting innerself. The
third layer inspires before committing sin and is called an-nafs
al-mulhimma (‫نفس ملہمہ‬
ِ ) i.e. the inspiring innerself. Whereas,
fourth layer is pure of sins and is at peace, it is called an-nafs al-
mutma’innah ( ‫نفس مطمئنہ‬
ِ ) i.e. the peaceful innerself.
INSPIRATION
Ilham (‫)ااہلل‬: It descends upon the inward from the spiritual world
and can be either Divine or satanic. The type of inspiration
depends upon the state of inward because if it is cleansed by the
invocation and contemplation of the Divine names (Ism-e-Allah
Zaat and Ism-e-Mohammad) then inspiration is pure. If inward is
strayed from the right path and engulfed in sensual desires then it
is from misleading sources.

INSCRIBING ALLAH’S NAME ON BODY

ِ ‫ )قشم‬is
The mystic exercise mashq murqoom-e-wajudia (‫
translated as the practice of inscribing Allah‟s name on the body. It
is the mystic exercise in which Allah‟s name (‫ )اللہ‬is inscribed on
the body with index finger in a particular manner. The powerful
theophanies of Allah‟s name purify the soul of the inscriber.
22

However this practice is effective when performed after pledging

allegiance to the perfect spiritual guide.

INVOCATION
Invocation is translated from Arabic/Quranic term dhikr (‫)
which means to remember Allah through repeated recitation of
His name. In Sarwari Qadri order, invocation is done with breaths
instead of tongue.

ISM-E-ALLAH ZAAT
Ism-e-Allah Zaat (‫ )اللہ‬is translated literally as „the personal
name of Allah‟. It represents the Essence and all the Divine
attributes and is His most powerful name. Its invocation and
contemplation is given by the perfect spiritual guide of Sarwari
Qadri order after a disciple pledges allegiance. It is the quickest
way of closeness to Allah because of its miraculous powers.

ISM-E-AZAM
Ism-e-Azam (‫
ِ ) literally means the greatest name of Allah
amongst His ninety nine beautiful names. It is the name which
contains all His powers and whose recitation solves all the
problems. Mystics confirm that Ism-e-Azam refers to Ism-e-Allah
Zaat ‫ اللہ‬because no other name of Allah is more powerful than
the Divine name ‫اللہ‬.

ISM-E-MOHAMMAD

It means the name „Mohammad‟ ( ) of the Holy Prophet which

is comprehensive of all his attributive names. In Sarwari Qadri
order its contemplation is given for the spiritual elevation of the
seekers.
23

JAMIAT
Jamiat (‫ )تیعمج‬is a mystic term having multiple meanings. It may
refer to spiritual powers, stability, peace, accumulation or
satisfaction. It is the highest spiritual level whereby all the
preceding levels accumulate in the being of the seeker.

MAN OF DIVINE ESSENCE (SAHIB-E-MUSAMMA)

He is the Fakir who is annihilated in Allah and has become

immortal with Him. He is the bearer of the Trust, the
representative of Allah and holds the status of the Universal
Divine Man. He is the perfect spiritual guide possessing the light
of guidance. His disciples are blessed with his contemplation
through Ism-e-Allah Zaat.

MAJDHUB
The Persian term Majdhub (‫ )ذجموب‬is used for the one who
cannot tolerate the effects of theophanies and loses his senses.
Hence due to the lost and absorbed state, he cannot follow sharia
properly neither can progress on the spiritual journey.
The disciples of the perfect and accomplished spiritual guide of
Sarwari Qadri order never become majdhub.

MEDITATION
Meditation stands for the Arabic word muraqaba (‫)
Muraqaba comes from raqibun which means the watchful,
careful observer, vigilant, wakeful. Ar-Raqib is one of the
beautiful names of Allah which means the One Who is Ever
Watchful. Literally muraqaba means to watch over, to take care
of or to keep an eye. Mystically it is to prevent the inward from
everything other than Allah by focusing entire attention upon
Ism-e-Allah Zaat.
24

MIRAJ
Arabic word Miraj (‫ )معراث‬means ascension to Allah. The Holy
Prophet is blessed with the ultimate Miraj where he beheld Allah
directly without any veil and enjoyed absolute union. Through
his mediation, the true seekers of Allah are also blessed with
Miraj according to their respective levels.

MOHAMMADAN ASSEMBLY
One of the most elevated stages of Faqr is presence in the
Mohammadan Assembly which is beyond words. In fact it is the
truth of certainty and is gained by the invocation and
contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat provided it is granted by the
perfect and accomplished spiritual guide. In his writings Sultan
Bahoo condemns those who do not believe in eternal existence
of Prophet Mohammad.

MYSTIC
Mystic, for the Arabic word Arif (‫)عارف‬, is the one who beholds,
knows and remains with Allah and has attained presence in the
Mohammadan Assembly.

OATH OF ALLEGIANCE
Oath of allegiance refers to mystic term al-bayah (‫)بیعت‬. When a
person takes al-bayah to the spiritual guide, he becomes disciple
and hands over himself to his spiritual guide in exchange of
spiritual guidance. This, in fact, is a pact between Allah and His
slave through the medium of spiritual guide. It eternally bonds
the spiritual guide with the disciple.
25

OBSESSION
In Arabic khurtum )‫ )زرطوم‬which literally means the intoxicating
wine of grapes but in Faqr it is a thought or belief against sharia,
mysticism or Faqr which occupies the mind in such a way that
terminates all the moral and spiritual values. Sharia and Faqr
have their respective principles which take the seeker to
destination. If anything against these principles dominates a
person it is called „obsession‟.

ONENESS OF ALLAH
Refers to the basic pillar of Islam Tauheed (‫)توحید‬. Believing in
it is the prerequisite to enter Islam. The shahada „There is no God
but Allah‟ is not only the verbal proclamation of Oneness of
Allah but a believer‟s whole life revolves around it. Its
profundity is only perceived by the Mystics, that is why the
Holy Prophet said:
Meaning: There are many who recite shahada “There is no God
but Allah, Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah” verbally but
only a few say it sincerely.
For the Mystics Oneness means that only Allah exists and none
else. They are annihilated in Oneness to become one with Him
and see Oneness of Allah everywhere.

PRESENCE
„Divine presence‟ is translation of mystic term Huzoori (‫)
It is the presence of soul and inward of the seeker before Allah
specifically during prayers and generally all the time. Divine
presence is gained by the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-
Allah Zaat.
26

REFLECTION
Refers to the mystic term fikr (‫)رکف‬. It is the power of thought and
cognition which is one of the means to obtain the gnosis of
Allah.

SHARIA

Sharia (‫ )شریعۃ‬is the set of Islamic laws derived from the

religious precepts of Islam particularly the Quran and Hadith.

SPIRITUAL ATTENTION

Refers to the mystic term tawajjuh (‫ )توجہ‬i.e. the powerful attention

of spiritual guide towards his disciples, through which he
cleanses their inwards, solves their inner problems, teaches them
wisdom and elevates them spiritually by making them experience
different spiritual states.

SPIRITUAL GUIDE
Spiritual guide is English term for the Arabic word Murshid
Murshid is Quranic term and is also one of the attributive
names of Allah. Murshid is not only the spiritual guide of the
seekers of Allah but also their spiritual doctor who treats their
inner diseases and trains them inwardly as well as outwardly as a
spiritual instructor. No one has ever reached Allah without the
guidance of a perfect Murshid.

SUFI COSMOLOGY
The Sufis have described six realms of Divine descent or soul‟s
ascension to Allah. In descending order they are as follows;
27

a) REALM OF INCOMPARABLE AND UNKNOWABLE

Arabic alam al-HaHooiyat (‫

ِ ): It is the first realm
in Sufi cosmology where the Divine Essence is in
transcendent form. Simply to understand, here the Essence is
called Hoo. It is also called alam al-Ahadiyah (‫عالم احدیت‬
ِ ),
the realm of Transcendent Unity.
b) REALM OF FIRST MANIFESTATION

Arabic alam al-YaHoot (‫

ِ ): It is the second realm in
Sufi cosmology. Here the Mohammadan light manifested for
the very first time from the transcendent Divine light. It is
also called alam al-Wahdah (‫عالم وحدۃ‬
ِ ), the realm of Divine
Solitude.
c) REALM OF DIVINITY

Arabic alam al-LaHoot (‫

ِ ): It is the third realm. Here
the Mohammadan light manifested in the form of Divine
soul (ar-ruh al-qudsi ‫ )رو ِج قدسی‬which is the essence and
origin of all human souls. When soul ascends to this realm,
it is blessed with the Divine vision which is impossible in
lower realms. It is also called alam al-Wahidiyah ( ‫عالم‬
ِ
‫)واحدیت‬, the realm of Divine Uniqueness.
These three realms are collectively called the universe of
Command (alam al-Amr ‫
ِ ).
d) REALM OF POWER

Arabic alam al-jabarut (‫

ِ ): It is the fourth one. It is
the realm of manifestation of all human souls from the
Divine soul. Here the soul is without any form. It is also
called alam al-arwah (‫عالم ارواج‬
ِ ), the realm of souls.
28

e) ANGELIC REALM

In Arabic it is alam al-malakut (‫

ِ ). Here souls
manifest in intangible symbolic forms. Dreams are related to
this world. It is also called alam al-mithal (‫عالم مثال‬
ِ ), the
realm of metaphorical forms.

f) THE PHYSICAL WORLD/ REALM OF BODIES

Alam an-nasut (‫

ِ ) or alam al-ajsam (‫عالم اجسام‬
ِ ): It
refers to the material universe which is the last in Sufi
cosmology.

UNVEILING

Kashf (‫)کشف‬: It literally means unveiling of hidden secrets. It is

the Divine light which a seeker of Allah is blessed with on the
path of Faqr. Veils are lifted through excessive invocation and
contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and inscribing it on the body.
Due to this, seeker‟s physical sight converts into the spiritual one
hence he can see those things and incidents which others cannot.

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficent.

Meaning: Nothing exists in both the worlds but Hoo.
Infinite blessings and salutations upon the leader of all leaders
Prophet Mohammad, his sacred Family and Companions.
This book is written in compliance to the Holy Quran and
Hadith. The writer is Sarwari Qadri Fakir Bahoo son of Bazayd
who belongs to the Awan tribe and is the resident of Shorkot. It
is written in the reign of Emperor Mohiyyuddin Aurangzeb. He
is true follower of the Holy Prophet and firmly acts upon sharia
with knowledge of certainty. May this king of Islam be blessed
with power till eternity by the grace of Allah and His Prophet. I
have titled this book Ain-ul-Arifeen and also declared it as a
touchstone for the researchers.

These four Divine names (Allah, Lillah, LaHoo, Hoo) are like
the key for the lock of both the worlds. Instead of becoming an
emulator one must become a possesser of this key who could
open every lock of part and whole. No one knows the mystery
of these Divine names except the man of Divine Essence and
only he can disclose it. The medium of Divine name ‫ اللہ‬Allah
30

elevates the immortal Mystic to the station of non-creation and

he achieves union with Allah. Only Allah! Everything other than
Allah is lust. The medium of Divine name ‫ل ِلہ‬ Lillah takes the

immortal Mystic to the realm of Divinity where he is united with

Allah. By the medium of Divine name ‫لَہ‬ LaHoo the immortal

Mystic reaches the station of no station. By the medium of

Divine name ‫ ُھو‬Hoo he achieves the station of Transcendent

Unity and becomes one with Allah. These four Divine names are
Ism-e-Allah Zaat which is like a mirror. The immortal Mystic
spiritual guide is the one who immerses the seeker in Oneness
and blesses him with every kind of observation through the
mirror of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. He gains presence in the
Mohammadan Assembly where he is honoured with company of
all the Prophets, Sufis and Saints. He also observes all the levels
and stations of the world and hereafter through this mirror and
verifies them physically and spiritually. When he contemplates
the medium of Divine name ‫ اللہ‬Allah in his brain, all the Divine

secrets are disclosed upon him. Then he never gets oblivious of

the observation of Oneness because the efficacy of Divine name
Allah does not let one sleep. When he engraves the Divine
name ‫ ل ِلہ‬Lillah on his inward by contemplation, he becomes

enlightened Fakir and a man of insight, eventually he is

annihilated in Allah. When he contemplates the Divine name ‫لَہ‬
LaHoo with his physical eyes, all the veils are lifted from his
eyes. Afterwards when he contemplates the Divine name ‫ ُھو‬Hoo
with his inner eyes, he observes that everything in his existence
31

which is other than Allah, burns to naught. The eternally ecstatic

man is he who has become one with Allah. True man is the one
who is engrossed in the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Those
oblivious of it are like Satan and devils. Allah says:
Meaning: Man is My secret and I am his secret.
Meaning: And We have indeed honoured the children of Adam.
(17:70)

Whoever is oblivious of Allah, is counted among the pagans.

Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith:
َ ََ َ َ َ َ َ َ ََ َ
‫ِاذا ذس ۡر تنِ ۡی شش ۡرتنِ ۡی َو ِاذا ن ِس ۡی َتنِ ۡی کف ۡرتنِ ۡی‬ 
Meaning: When you invoke Me, you are in fact grateful to Me
and when you forget Me, you commit infidelity.
The knowledge of exegesis contains every knowledge. It
encompasses total knowledge and jurisprudence. The most
effective knowledge is the knowledge of ultimate dawat and
invocation. Other kinds of effective knowledge are;
(a) Knowledge which makes you conscious about your end
(b) Knowledge regarding Divine closeness, presence and union
(c) Knowledge of unveiling of graves
(d) knowledge of miracles
(e) Knowledge of world, angels, jinns and devils
(f) Knowledge of all the stations and spheres
(g) Knowledge of sainthood that is the ultimate bestowal
(h) Knowledge of Saints of Faqr and the Sultan-ul-Faqr
All these kinds of knowledge can be learnt through Ism-e-Allah
Zaat. Dear! Know it verily that Ism-e-Allah Zaat will be with
32

you forever. Whoever becomes aware of the reality of Ism-e-

Allah Zaat, is blessed with a new (level of) soul every moment.
He finds the Divine secrets by engraving it on the inward. You
must obliterate everything from your inward that is other than
Allah. For the truly religious people renouncing the world is the
foundation of every devotion while love of the world is a curse
for the people of inward.

Explanation: The Holy Prophet divorced the world thrice. If
someone tried to give him the worldly wealth, he refused.

Explanation: Ism-e-Allah Zaat is pure, how can it be related to
the carrion world! In the same way how can the worldly people
attain to Oneness of Allah.

Explanation: The religion and worldliness cannot be retained in
the inward simultaneously. Thus the Mystics never desire
worldly respect and power.
Allah says:
Meaning: Allah has not made for any man two hearts inside his
breast. (33:4)
33

Hadith:
Meaning: World is accursed and whatsoever belongs to it is also
accursed.
Both the worlds are in the core of inward while the inward is in
the core of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Following Hadith describes it:
َ َ ّ َ ُ ّّٰ َ َ ْ َُْ ُ ُ ْ َّ
َ ‫ ِان القلوْ َب بَین ا ْص ُب َعین ِم ْن ا َصابع الل ِہ یق ِل ُب َہا ک‬
)2140‫یف یَشا ُ?(رتذمی۔‬ ِِ
Meaning: Verily the inwards are between the two Fingers among
the Fingers of Allah, He keeps turning them as He likes. (Tirmidhi
2140)

The inward upon which Ism-e-Allah Zaat is inscribed never gets

affected by satanic whispers, obsessions, evil suggestions,
apprehensions or sensual desires. As, such an immortal Mystic
perpetually remains in the company of Allah. The next step is to
annihilate in Prophet Mohammad by the contemplation of Ism-e-
Mohammad. The seeker who is blessed with the efficacy of Ism-
e-Mohammad, utters every word with Mohammadan light. Then
is the stage of annihilation in Faqr through the medium of
contemplation of Faqr. By its contemplation the Fakir is
associated with souls of Sultan-ul-Faqr and becomes humble and
Gharib. By the medium of contemplation of Alif the inward of a
Fakir is annihilated in Alif. By the contemplation of spiritual
guide loyalty with him is enhanced and the seeker gains
whichever inward benefit he wishes. Subsequently he attains the
Divine secret.
Know that when Ism-e-Allah Zaat is engraved on the inward
by contemplation, the satanic whisperer and obsessions become
naught by its effects and the inward gets rid of all the filth and
satanic veils. The inner eyes become powerful by the eternal
light and the dark spot of heart is also brightened hence both the
worlds come under the sight. The innerself perpetually remains
34

embarrassed, worried and perplexed. In fact it is at war with the

spiritual guide and wishes that the seeker may lose his faith upon
him and get separated because the spiritual guide slaughters the
innerself like a butcher. At this point the seeker should trust upon
his spiritual guide and must remain persevered otherwise neither
he is the seeker of Divine vision nor the man of contemplation.

Explanation: O Bahoo! The invocation of Allah prevents one
from following the desires of innerself and this grants him
ascension towards Allah every moment.

Explanation: If you do not believe it O brigand then recall the
words of the Holy Prophet:
ُ َ َُ ٌ َ ْ ّّٰ َ
‫ ل ِ ْی َمع الل ِہ َوق ٌت ل َا یَ َس ُعنِ ْی فِ ْی ِہ َملک ّمق ّ َر ٌب َو لَا ن ِب ٌّی ّم ْر َس ٌل‬
Meaning: At times I have such closeness with Allah when
neither any Prophet nor any archangel is between us.
Every seeker who seeks Allah must firstly seek the perfect
spiritual guide. Who is the perfect spiritual guide? One who
shows the spectacle of all the stations of eighteen thousand
worlds and their creations without putting the seeker in any kind
of struggle, endeavour or pain and blesses him with presence in
the Mohammadan Assembly without any invocation or
reflection. In the Mohammadan Assembly, he physically and
spiritually meets all the Prophets, Saints and Sufis present on the
earth and the heavens, whether alive or dead. Hadith:
35

Meaning: The esoteric self that is opposite to the exoteric self is
false.
The medium to annihilate in Allah is contemplation of Ism-e-
Allah Zaat and engraving it on the inward along with shahada:
ّّٰ َ َ ّّٰ َ ّ
‫ لَٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ ُم َح ّم ٌد ّر ُسوْ ُل الل ِہ‬
Meaning: There is no God but Allah, Mohammad is the Messenger
of Allah.
The contemplation lights such a fire in the existence that burns it
entirely so much so the seeker cannot sleep. For such a seeker
eating is an endeavour and sleeping is observation. Invocation is
continued in him voluntarily and he remains in the state of
spiritual frenzy, intoxication and absorption. However he is
vigilant during frenzy and awake during sleep. Contemplation is
the medium to annihilation in Allah. The inward becomes
absolutely content by the contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and
the seeker is absolved of all pains. He is full of gratitude for
Allah, trusts Him and silently remains engrossed in beholding
His countenance. The medium of contemplation of annihilation
in Hoo keeps the seeker restless day and night. He achieves the
love and consent of Allah in just a step. His inward contemplates
Hoo and becomes Hoo.
The Fakir who is man of Divine presence neither stays in dreams
nor in illusions, he is eternally united with Allah and a man of
concentration and beauty. Hadith:
Meaning: Concentration of a moment is better than the worship
of both the worlds.
In this moment, number of years pass by instantly. The Holy
Prophet said:
36

Meaning: Reflect upon the signs of Allah not the Essence.
No other blessing is better than reaching the Divine Essence
through the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. If a person is
disturbed by apprehensions during salat, invocation or reflection
then surely he still has worldly desires and is not truly a seeker
of Allah. Perfect spiritual guide is the one who takes the seeker
to the Essence saving him from all apprehensions. The inward is
like a home, apprehensions are like dog and Essence is the angel
mentioned in the following Hadith:
َْْ َُ ْ ُ
‫ ل َا یَ ْدخ ُل ا لمَ ٰٓل ِئکۃ ف ِ ْی بَ ْی ِت فِ ْی ِہ ا لکل ِب‬
Meaning: Angels do not enter the house where a dog is kept.
Invocation must be accompanied with reflection. The Holy
Prophet said:
Meaning: Reflection gives more pleasure than invocation.
Meaning: To invoke (verbally) without reflection is like the
barking of a dog.
Some people hold their breath or heart during invocation. This is
the way of infidels and only imperfect ones invoke by this
method. One must not adopt this method. The spiritual guide
who himself is still involved in struggles and pains is certainly
unaware of the Divine treasures. However the spiritual
endeavours are different. One who can fly in air is powerful near
people but deprived near Allah. Similarly those whom people
consider rich are indigent near Allah.
37

Explanation: If one is blessed with the company of Beloved then
even indigence is like a heavenly garden. While without the
Beloved, the worldly riches and powers are worthless.

Explanation: Unless you adopt the company of Beloved by
making Him the only desire of your heart, you cannot truly enjoy
any blessing.

Explanation: I have discarded all the worries of the world and
hereafter from my heart because a heart can either contain the
love for Beloved or things other than Him.
The ranks of the perfect spiritual guide and his true seekers
cannot be confiscated by any sin nor can Satan, innerself or
anyone else force them to commit sin. As the incident related in
chapter al-Kahf of the Holy Quran, the act considered as sin by
Prophet Moses was a virtue according to Khidr. One must not
have misassumption about the Fakirs otherwise he may be
deprived of faith. Hadith:
Meaning: The assumption of a believer is always good.
The alphabet that carries to the beloved is neither written in the
books nor can be found from here or there as it is His word. Like
38

the Quranic alphabets ‫ الـم‬Alif Laam Meem this word is also

inscribed on the Divine Tablet. The perfect spiritual guide who is

man of sight gives the intoxicating beverage of Divine vision to
the seekers. The seekers thank him and on achieving union with
Allah they recite;
Meaning: Enough for me is Allah. (9:129)
Meaning: And Allah is sufficient. (33:39)
You must know that miracles and unveiling of inwards are
related with the physical world and their seeker remains stuck in
the world. In the path of Faqr this is just the initial level and for
the travellers towards Divine union staying here is just a waste of
time as they seek only Allah. The Holy Prophet taught shahada
to Ali ibn Abi Talib as:
ّّٰ َ ّ َ ّٰ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ ْ ْ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ ْ ْ َ
ُ‫اللہ‬ ‫ اغ ِمض عینیک و اسمع فِی قل ِبک یا ع ِلی لٓا ِالہ ِالا‬
Meaning: O Ali! Close your eyes and listen to your inward
There is no God but Allah.‟

‫ لَٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ‬is a promise made on the day of Divine covenant that
there is no God but Allah. Hence keeping hopes in others,

imploring to anyone else or fearing from others is infidelity and
polytheism. Saying and hearing ‫ لَٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ‬is different from
becoming the embodiment of ‫ہ ِالا الل ُہ‬ ‫لٓا ِال‬. If the majesty of ‫لَٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا‬
‫ الل ُہ‬affects the earth, it would be burnt to ashes.
39

Hadith:
Meaning: All the scholars are (esoterically) dead except those
who practise their knowledge, all the practitioners are dead
except those who fear Allah and all those who fear Allah are
dead except those who are sincere to Him.
‫ لَٓا ِالّٰ َہ ِالا الل ُہ‬must be said with truthfulness. If the rulers or pagans
say it by tongue but do not verify it by heart then it would not
benefit them at all. Allah is the Knower of the hidden and for
Him the inward state is important. Firstly it should be checked
whether a person is human only exoterically and an animal
esoterically.
Hadith:
ْ َ َ َ َ
Meaning: One belongs to the nation whom one likes.
Only the one who has love of Allah in his inward can be
considered man. May people understand!
Allah says:

Meaning: And (also recall the event) when Abraham said, “My
Lord, show me how you bring the dead to life”. Allah said, “Do
you not have faith?” He submitted, “Why not! (I do believe), but
40

(I wish) my heart is blessed with gratifying calm”. Allah ordained,

“Well, take four birds and tame them to feel attached to you;
then (slaughter them and) place a piece of each of them on each
hill, then call them. They will come to you at high speed. And
know that surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.” (2:260)
Know that Faqr is like gold and silver while the knowledge of
scholars is like the touchstone of goldsmith. The scholar who
acts upon his knowledge with body and soul, becomes righteous.
Who are the righteous scholars? Those who have beautiful
attributes and morals of the Holy Prophet and are dominant over
their innerself and worldly matters. They reject the Satan,
covetousness and stinginess. The veritable knowledge is that
which grants the gnosis of Allah and takes to Him. You know
that in the Quran Allah has not given any worth to the world. He
says:
Meaning: The day when neither wealth nor sons will profit. But
he alone (will be the gainer) who appears before Allah with an
inward protected (from) and pure (of all evils). (26:88-89)
Meaning: They will be kind towards the believers but strict
towards the disbelievers. (5:54)
The Holy Prophet said:
ّٰ ُ ْ ُّ َ
‫لدن َیا َمز َر َعۃالْاز َِر ِۃ‬ ‫ ا‬
Meaning: Worldly life is preparation for hereafter.
The Holy Prophet never had any worldly asset, his life was full
of good deeds and was just for the preparation of hereafter. The
preparation for hereafter is done in this world with the physical
body. The inward that contains love for the world and its people
41

but is deprived of Allah‟s love, hellfire is produced in such an

inward. Its sign is greed. Hadith:
Meaning: The love of world and religion cannot sustain in one
inward just like fire and water cannot be contained in one utensil.
There are two kinds of Faqr; one that grants union of Allah
while other turns the traveller away from Him. The travellers
who turn away remain needy while the true Faqr makes one
independent of all needs as is the Hadith:

‫لحل‬ ّّٰ َ َ ّ ُ َ ْ ُ َ ُ ْ َ ْ َ
)‫(نیعاملعلوزنیا م‬ ‫اث ِالا ِالی اللہ‬‫ الفقر لایحت‬
Meaning: Faqr needs nothing except Allah. (Ayn al-Ilm wa Zain al-
Hilm)

However everyone needs Faqr. Hadith:

Meaning: I seek refuge in Allah from Faqr that brings disgrace.
(Ayn al-ilm wa Zain al-Hilm)

Faqr means:
َ
Meaning: He (Allah) loves them and they love Him. (5:54)
The station of its followers is:
ْ َ ْ ُ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ ُ ّّٰ َ َ
(98:8)ُ‫اعنہ‬ ‫ ر ِضی اللہ عنہم ورضو‬
Meaning: Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with
Him. (98:8)
Hadith:

Meaning: The seeker of world is an intersex, the seeker of hereafter

Allah says:

Meaning: His eyes neither inclined aside nor overstepped the
limit. (53:17)
If the endeavours of a spiritual traveller neither grant him Divine
observations nor elevate him on this way day by day blessing
him with presence in the assembly of Prophets, Saints and Sufis
then they cannot be called endeavours, rather are like brigand
that are wasting his precious life. Hadith:

Meaning: Stagnation is forbidden on the inwards of Saints.
The knowledge based on verbosity is just a headache and its
possessor is not a man. Whereas Faqr, Divine love and
invocation of Allah are the sword to kill the innerself and this
war is fought by men. The Holy Prophet said about this war:
َ ْ َ ْ َ ّٰ َ َ ْ َ َْ َ
ِ‫ ر َجعنا ِم ْن ِجہا ِد الا ْصغرِ ِالی ِجہا ِد الاکبر‬
Meaning: We return towards the greater jihad from the minor
one.

Explanation: For the crazy lover separation and union are the
same. He is engrossed in Allah within himself and has nothing to
do with heaven or hell.
One word of permission is far better than thousand words.
Hadith:
Meaning: True disciple has no desires.
A disciple should be like Bayazid Bastami or Rabia of Basra.
Hadith:

Meaning: When Faqr is accomplished that is Allah.
One who achieves this destination, his ranks are unparalleled.
Allah says:

)9<:8=( ?@ ِ ‫ و‬
Meaning: And Allah is Independent and you (all) are Fakirs.
(47:38)

Rather he is empowered with the level of:

)2:20( ‫ ِا ّن الل َہ َعلّٰی ک ِ ّل ش ٍٔی ق ِدیْ ٌر‬
Meaning: Surely Allah is All-Powerful to do everything. (2:20)
Fakir is master of the worlds, his inward is pure of all
apprehensions. The Holy Prophet said:
ْ َ ْ ُ َّ َ
‫ ل َا َص ّٰلوۃ ِالا ِب ُحضوْرِ القل ِب‬
Meaning: No salat without the presence of inward.

44

Explanation: If pure clothes are worn on the body with impure

innerself then what‟s the use! One whose inward is replete with
polytheism, his prostration to Allah would not benefit him at all.
Do not keep the company of heretics and depraved. The Holy
Prophet said:

Meaning: The name of Allah is pure hence only sustains in a
pure being and never enters any impure place.
It is mandatory upon the seeker of Allah to first of all find a
spiritual guide. What are the signs of a perfect spiritual guide?
He has the power of Divine command „Be‟ and „It becomes‟
(Kun Fayakun). If the seeker follows an imperfect spiritual guide
then he wastes his time. The perfect spiritual guide is true
reflection of Prophet Mohammad while the imperfect spiritual
guide is like Satan and a brigand who ruins the life of seekers.

Explanation: Whoever becomes slave of Fakir and follows his
path, his destination and rank lies beyond the Throne.

Explanation: O ascetic! You are happily occupied in your devotions
and glorification while the scholars are busy in studying and
giving verdicts.
Lover of Allah is happy on having the consent of Allah and a
Fakir is happy on annihilation of his innerself. The Holy Prophet
said:
َ َ
Meaning: May Allah forgive you.
If you wish to step on the path of Faqr then you must recite and
follow:
Meaning: So run towards Allah. (51:50)
Allah says:
Meaning: You can never attain to piety unless you spend (for the
cause of Allah) out of that which you like the most and Allah
surely knows well whatever you give away. (3:92)
46

You must know and understand it verily that Allah has promised:
ُ ۡ ّّٰ َ َ ّ ۡ َ ۡ َ ّ َ ۡ َ َ
)44:;( ‫ض ِالا َعلی الل ِہ رِزق َہا‬
ِ ‫ و ما ِمن د@ب ٍۃ فِی الار‬
Meaning: And there is no moving creation (living being) on the
earth but (that) its sustenance is (a bountiful obligation) upon
Allah. (11:6)
Hadith:
‫ل‬
Meaning: One who finds Allah, finds everything.
Only Allah! Everything other than Allah is lust.
Fakir is an ocean of Divine Oneness. Those who dive into the
ocean of Faqr either catch the pearls of Divine treasure or die
due to its stormy waves. One must become a Mystic. Who is a
Mystic? None of the Mystics ever ran over water like a straw,
neither flew in air like the flies. All the realities of pre-existence,
eternity and the world are revealed upon the Mystic, nothing
remains hidden from him.
There are different categories of Mystics; Mystic of sharia,
Mystic of mysticism, Mystic of the reality, Mystic of gnosis and
the Mystic of Faqr who is annihilated in Allah and immortal
with Him. Hadiths:
Meaning: He who recognizes his Lord becomes silent.
Meaning: He who recognizes his Lord, talks more.
Some are the Mystics of soul while some are Mystics of the
innerself. Hadith:
47

Meaning: Whoever recognized his innerself undoubtedly
recognized his Lord.
There are some Mystics of Satan also. Allah says:
Meaning: O children of Adam! Do not worship Satan; no doubt
he is your open enemy. (36:60)
Some are Mystics of the inward while others are Mystics of the
exoteric self or the Mystics of transitory world. The Holy
Prophet said:
Meaning: Renunciation of world is the basis of all devotions and
love of the world is the root cause of all evils.
Some are the Fakirs annihilated in Allah who are the Mystics of
Divine secret. Allah says about them:
ُ ََ ُ ‫ اَلْان ْ َس‬
‫ان ِس ّ ِر ْی َو انا ِس ّره‬ ِ
Meaning: Man is My secret and I am his secret.
You must know that the Fakir is a man of Divine Essence, man
of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and the man of mazes. He is aware of the
path to Allah far more than the scholars, hafiz of Quran and the
people of Sufism. It is a sin to look towards the seeker of world.
The objective of a majdhub devotee is different from the
objective of the beloved devotee while objective of a veiled
devotee is different. A majdhub can never travel the path of Faqr
and a traveller of Faqr can never turn majdhub. Faqr is not
attained by power or high levels rather it is attained by the kind
attention and compassion of Allah. The scholars have words and
deeds while the Fakir possesses the breath and the step. His
48

breath takes him to Oneness of Allah and his steps follow the
sharia of Prophet Mohammad. Fakir is like the jeweller, sharia is
like the touchstone and Faqr is like the gold and silver. In the
assembly of the Fakir everyone is blessed according to his spiritual
state. Which is the veritable knowledge of sharia? The knowledge
that acquaints with the truth and ends the falsehood. Truly
following the sharia rids one from the evil of Satan and innerself
and leads towards the good deeds. What does one attain by
adopting the path of mysticism? He separates from the world and
the worldly people as Allah has not given any worth to the world
in the Holy Quran.
If a so-called Dervish, Fakir or spiritual guide inclines towards
the pleasures of innerself, world and Satan forsaking the
Mohammadan religion, he must not be trusted as how can the
one who is himself spiritually sleeping awake the others! He is a
miser, greedy and a restless fake fakir who is dependent on
others. The Holy Prophet said:
ْ َْ ّّٰ ُ َ
‫ ن ُعوْذ ِبالل ِہ ِم ْن فق ِر المُ ِک ِّب‬
Meaning: I seek refuge in Allah from Faqr that brings disgrace.
Veritable Faqr is independent and indifferent to both the worlds.
Hadith:
Meaning: Faqr needs nothing except Allah.
What is Sufism? Sufism is based on the special commands of
Allah. Who is a Sufi? He is the one who receives all these
commands directly from Allah through inspiration and remains
with Allah. What is mysticism and who is a man of mysticism?
Mysticism is entirely related with the esoteric self and the man
of mysticism is the one who submits his inward. Endeavours are
his food and his sleeping means Divine observations.
49

Explanation: O Bahoo! I have been blessed with such everlasting
beneficence of Faqr that I perpetually enjoy Divine union
whether I am eating or sleeping.
Listen O ascetic, the labourer of paradise! The stomach of Fakirs
is like a stove, their food is Divine light and their sleep is Divine
presence. The men of Allah take sustenance of this world but do
the work of other world.
Allah says:
Meaning: Surely the most honourable amongst you in the sight
of Allah is he who fears Allah the most. (49:13)
Single sight of a Fakir that lays the foundation of Faqr in the
existence of a seeker is far better than the devotions of years.
Gaining outward knowledge is just a headache while the job of
true men is to behead their innerself with the sword of
invocation. Through knowledge one comes to know about destiny
but by killing the innerself one wins the eternal battle. The Holy
Prophet declared this battle as superior to the physical battle:
َ ْ َ ْ َ ّٰ َ َ ْ َ َْ َ
ِ‫ ر َجعنا ِم ْن ِجہا ِد الا ْصغرِ ِالی ِجہا ِد الاکبر‬
Meaning: We return towards the greater jihad from the minor
one.
The speech of jurists is different from that of the winning
soldiers. The Fakir is a man of accountability of the innerself for
himself as well as for the seekers of Allah.
What is the difference between Faqr and knowledge? Knowledge
is like a lamp for the religion while Faqr is the sun. How can a
50

lamp dare to show its light before the sun! Only that scholar
elevates to the level of Fakir who practises upon his knowledge.
No one knows the exact reality of the world, innerself, Satan and
Faqr except Allah, Prophet Mohammad and the one whom Allah
chooses for His bestowal and beneficence due to his extreme
involvement in Allah.
Hellfire is nearer to the jugular vein of three kinds of people;
firstly those who have knowledge still they commit sin and their
sin is proved, secondly those who oppress the orphans and do not
fear Allah, thirdly the ignorant who do not pay attention towards
knowledge and remain busy in gluttony, wearing expensive
dresses and making their name.
There are four destinations of Faqr and each has a brigand. First
is the destination of sharia and the enemy here is Satan, second is
the destination of mysticism where the enemy is one‟s innerself,
third is the station of reality and the enemy here is fear of hell
while fourth is the destination of gnosis where the enemy is lust
of paradise. Allah says:
Meaning: His eye neither inclined aside nor overstepped the

Alas! People advise others but themselves remain away from
Allah. Allah says:

Explanation: O Bahoo! When one has to travel towards the King,
every rider should make the innerself his ride and reach every
station by controlling it.
Relinquishing one‟s attributes takes to the Essence. Allah says:

ۡ ۡ ۡ ۡ ۡ ۡ
Meaning: He is the One Who brings forth the living from the
dead and brings forth the dead from the living. (30:19)
Meaning: The spiritual guide is the giver of life and death. He
can give life to the inward (of seeker) and death to his innerself
or may enliven the innerself and give death to the inward (by
seizing it).
He is authorized both ways. Hence the perfect spiritual guide is
the man of authority and the medium towards contemplation. He
is the immortal Mystic immersed in the ocean of observations.
When one gains authority upon virtues, he is accomplished.
Obligations were fixed upon Noah exactly during the storm.
Bahoo says, “I have annihilated in Allah and drowned in
Oneness by submitting to the destiny fixed by Him.”

Meaning: I bear witness that there is no God but Allah and I bear
witness that Mohammad is the Divine slave and Messenger of
Allah.
Allah will present five sacred entities as an example upon five
groups of people on the Last Day; Prophet Joseph upon the slaves,
52

Prophet Job upon the sick, Prophet Solomon upon the rich, Prophet
Jesus upon Dervishes and Prophet Mohammad upon Fakirs and
scholars.

Explanation: You must guard you breath as existence of the world
is due to it. Rather the sages consider the breath superior to the
entire world.
Fakir Bahoo answers:

Explanation: Breath does not have eternal life. Faqr is annihilated
in Allah hence is eternal, breath has no worth as compared to it.
When the breath which was earlier continued being stranger to
Allah, becomes one with Faqr, it converts to Divine light. At this
level the invocation and reflection extremely enhance the passion of
the seeker for Allah. The destination of immersion in the state of
annihilation in Allah and the levels of Divine closeness, union,
presence and further higher levels are also achieved through the
Divine invocation. Superior Fakir is the one who does not seek
anything but immersion in the Truth. Strange are these worldly
people who declare themselves as the loud and secret invokers.
They are liars and their claim is false. The sign of true invocation
is that it keeps the invoker restless. If special invocation of Allah
is performed with sincerity, it perpetually keeps the invoker
immersed in the ocean of Oneness and blesses with eternal
presence of the Mohammadan Assembly. This is the real
invocation. If a person does two lakh two thousand kinds of
recitals in a month so much so his heart, flesh, skin rather each
53

and every cell starts invoking Allah‟s name loudly but the
invoker does not gain Divine presence then his invocation is
useless and worthless. If he becomes unconscious of himself
while invocation and people consider him crazy and ecstatic, if
he keeps sobbing and shivering and all his body parts remain
warm due to the effects of invocation then these are the signs of
imperfect seekers who remain stuck at initial levels of mysticism
and could not accomplish in Faqr.

Explanation: Your destination is far ahead, to attain it you must kill
yourself i.e. desires of your innerself. O animal like human! There
are still many way stations to cover before you become a true
human and a Mystic.
Listen O pure Dervish! One must be a true Dervish not the one who
seeks wealth and sells himself and the religion Islam. This is
sheer paganism.

Explanation: O Bahoo! I found the Beloved nearer than the
jugular vein. One achieves this station when he liberates himself
from his own self as well as questions and objections.
Allah says:
Meaning: And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein. (50:16)
You must be steadfast on shahada that there is no God but Allah,
conceal yourself in it and should recite it with tongue as well as
by inward as commanded:
54

Meaning: Affirm by tongue and confirm by inward.
In the pre-existence we made the covenant with Allah (to
consider none as God other than Him). Reverting from it is
infidelity and polytheism. Allah has made mandatory upon us:
ۡ َ َ ََ َۡ َ َّ َّ َ َ
)93: 10-11( ﴾﴿ ‫السآئِ َل فلَا تن َہ ۡر ﴿﴾ َو ا ّما ِب ِن ۡعمَ ِۃ َر ِّبک ف َح ِّدت‬ ‫ و ام ا‬
Meaning: Do not reproach anyone who asks (for help). And
proclaim (well) the bounties of your Lord. (93:10-11)
The Fakir offers all kinds of devotions for Allah, he does all
kinds of struggles he knows to reach Allah and performs recitals
hence attains to higher levels of piety very soon. However you
must understand that the one who is unaware of the esoteric self,
his all struggles prove to be false. He is just doing the deeds of
common people and has no knowledge of the deeds of chosen
ones. The Holy Prophet said:
ُ ُ ُُ َُْ ُ َ ُْ ُ ُ ْ ّّٰ َ
‫ ِا ّن الل َہ لَا یَنظ ُر ِال ّٰی ُصوَرِک َم َول َا یَنظ ُر ِالّٰی ا ْعمَال ِک ْم َولّٰ ِک ْن ّینظ ُر ف ِ ْی قلوْ ِبک ْم َونِ ّ َیا ِتک ْم‬
Meaning: Verily! Allah neither observes your physical appearance
nor the deeds rather He observes your inward and intentions.
The point of attention of Allah is the inward not the tongue.
Unless the overpowering invocation that is done with inhale and
exhale, continues in the existence neither all the organs of the
body become obedient nor the innerself is subdued. Then the
invoker reaches the stage of:
َْ ُ
):::1>(﴾﴿‫ ک ّ َل یَوْ ٍم ُھوَ ف ِ ْی شا ٍن‬
Meaning: Every moment, His glory manifests anew. (55:29)
َ َ َ ُ ُ
):::1;(﴾﴿‫ان‬
Meaning: Whoever is on the earth will perish. (55:26)
55

These levels which are the medium towards union with Allah,
does not unveil unless;

 The tongue, innerself, inward and soul of the invoker

become one and the same; each of them takes the form of a
human, shakes hand with him and fulfills all the promises
 The sound of invocation delights his innerself and gives
jamiat to the soul
 The invoker sacrifices both the worlds on the gibbet of his
inward out of intoxication and frenzy
 Reaches the station of qab qausain3 which is the secret of the
Holy Prophet and the station of Singularity and ultimacy of
honour of love
 Views the spectacle of eighteen thousand realms
 Meets the souls of all Prophets, Saints, Sufis and spiritual
guides
 Tastes the syrup of Oneness with truth of certainty
 The promise of Allah is fulfilled and the flaws of invoker‟s
innerself are revealed upon him
 He annihilates in Allah, becomes immortal with Him and
approaches the station about which Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani
said;
Meaning: One who intended to worship after attaining union with
Allah, committed infidelity and polytheism. (Ar-Risala tul-Ghausia)
Moreover, he cannot achieve the everlasting Faqr unless he
relinquishes each and every sin by heart. Allah says about the
people having evil inward;

3
Distance of two bow length between Allah and the Holy Prophet as mentioned in sura
al-Najm verse 9.
56

Meaning: Nor they will be able to enter Paradise until the camel
passes through the eye of a needle (i.e. their entrance into
Paradise will be impossible the same way). (7:40)
O believer! Allah the most Beneficent has established His
Throne in the inward. It is the inward where His vision and
union are achieved. His seeker perpetually witnesses Him in his
inward and experiences various spiritual states. Sleeping of such
a seeker is not like common sleep and his rectified inward never
sleeps. The Fakirs are true sages and possess sharp sight. Their
wrath is the sample of Allah‟s wrath and their majesty contains
Divine beauty that manifests from their body. They can view the
spectacle of pre-existence in a single glance. Although neither do
they nor their disciples have enough food yet they are more
powerful than the people as they never fall weak before the evil
innerself. They know and recognize each and everything in both
the worlds and nothing is concealed from them. This is the
special Mohammadan way that was bestowed upon him on the
night of Miraj and is pure of deceitful unveiling and miracles.
Allah says:
Meaning: But those who deny Our revelations, We shall soon
lead them gradually towards catastrophe in such an imperceptible
manner that they will not even notice it. (7:182)
I have titled this book Ain-ul-Arifeen and declare it a touchstone
for the researchers.

Explanation: He is like a shadow of God for his common and

Meaning: Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those who hold
command amongst you. (4:59)
You must know that Ism-e-Allah Zaat is the medium through
which the path to Allah is traversed. It is not related with any
other invocation, reflection or devotion except the contemplation
of Ism-e-Allah Zaat that grants authority and Divine presence to
58

the seeker and annihilates him in Allah hence he becomes

immortal with Him and gains eternal life in both the worlds.

Explanation: The Eternal and the Sustained is perpetually with

Meaning: Surely the most honourable amongst you in the sight
of Allah is he who fears Allah the most. (49:13)
The perfect spiritual guide who is the immortal Mystic is blessed
with eternal Divine presence. It is not at all difficult for him to
ennoble the seekers of Allah with presence in the Mohammadan
Assembly. Whoever doubts the power of Ism-e-Allah Zaat, path
of Faqr that leads to annihilation in Allah, eternal life of the
Holy Prophet and presence in his assembly, undoubtedly turns
infidel and reprobate and is counted as an apostate. I seek refuge
in Allah from this.
Allah sent the Holy Prophet in this world for guidance towards
righteousness. Satan can never declare himself a righteous guide
as he never guides anyone towards recitation of Quran,
invocation of Allah, salat or other devotions that are the
foundation of religion Islam. The Holy Prophet said:
َ َّ َّ َّ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ َ
ْ‫الش ْی ّٰط َن لَا یَ َتمَ ّث ُل بی‬ ‫ الحق ِان‬A‫ن ِ ْی فقد ر‬A‫ من ر‬
ِ
Meaning: Whoever beheld me in fact beheld the Reality, Satan
cannot take my form.
He meant to say that whoever beheld him should be sure that he
beheld him not anyone else. He also said:
59

Meaning: Whoever beheld me during sleep, it is as if he beheld
me while awake. (Musnad Ahmad 7867)
The writer of this book Bahoo who is annihilated in Hoo says
that it is written in compliance to the verses of Quran and
Hadith. The true men of knowledge are blessed with this path.
The seekers of Allah consider knowledge superior to everything
because knowledge is the foundation and asset of gnosis of Allah
rather it is the crux. It does not refer to the knowledge of
common people which they do not even practise. Firstly one
should gain every kind of knowledge then step onto the path of
Faqr and burn oneself in Allah‟s love. As, knowledge guards
against the Satan and innerself and is a guide on the path to
Allah. Ascetic without knowledge gets depraved and becomes a
devil. Beware and be wise! There are some groups who
superficially adorn themselves with devotions and claim to be
special people of Sunna and men of Divine favour but inwardly
they are irreligious. The Holy Prophet said:
ْ َ ََْ َ ۡ ُ ْ َ َ
‫لال ِب ْد َع ِۃ‬ ‫ لا تج ِلسوا مع اھ‬
Meaning: Do not keep the company of heretics.
Meaning: Heretics are the dogs of hell.
They are absolute liars. Outwardly they pretend to be Fakir and
Dervish but esoterically they are brigands and evil. You must
realize that their seclusion is full of disruptions. Whether they
are master or a servant, all are trapped in deceit. In fact they are
evil and satanic men indulged in pleasures of innerself. Their
closet of seclusion is itself a veil for them, their devotions are
pretentious and inward is rotten.
60

A disciple should seek Allah from his spiritual guide. The seeker
should test the spiritual guide whether he is acquainted with
every kind of knowledge and knows every way of mysticism
esoterically as well as exoterically. Moreover the seeker should
be magnanimous, wise and a true wisher of presence in the
Mohammadan Assembly otherwise it is not at all difficult to turn
crazy thousands of ignorant with a single glance.
My dear! The worst of all the devils and the most dangerous
enemy is your innerself that is present in your existence. If you
could see how ugly and filthy it is, you would stab your stomach
yourself. Innerself is the inner thief while Satan is the outward
thief. If you imprison the inner thief, the outward thief would
automatically separate from it. You should behead or hang it till
death and for this you must know how to find this hidden thief.
The innerself is present in your entire existence just like the
cream, butter, curd and ghee all are present in milk. Spiritual
guide is like the woman who puts a little curd in the milk that
converts the milk into curd. The curd is churned to produce
butter. When that butter is heated on fire, impurities are removed
and pure ghee is obtained. Similarly the spiritual guide shows
the seeker his innerself, inward, soul and secret (inner part)
separately by the grace of Allah. These four are related with four
levels of innerself. The inciting innerself is extremely chaotic
and turbulent and the seeker has to fight against it. The Holy
Prophet said:
Meaning: We return towards the greater jihad (against innerself)
from the minor one.
No one but only the spiritual guide can kill the innerself which is
an infidel and the antichrist while the spiritual guide is like the
Christ. He kills the innerself and enlivens the inward. The
innerself cannot be burnt without the medium of (invocation and
61

contemplation of) Ism-e-Allah Zaat and it cannot be recognized

without gaining the gnosis of „only Allah.‟ It can never be
imprisoned but only when one separates from people and
prevents himself from their evil. The innerself never becomes
true Muslim without the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and it
does not become obedient unless one adopts silence and company
of perfect spiritual guide. Company of the perfect spiritual guide
even for a moment is far better than seventy years of devotion.
The innerself becomes infidel while committing sin, acts like an
animal at the time of lust, a crazy dog while hungry and Pharaoh
when sated. There are four levels of innerself; inciting innerself,
repenting innerself, inspiring innerself and the satisfied innerself.
You can recognize these four by their signs and can kill them
with four levels of invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat (Allah, Lillah,
LaHoo and Hoo). Keep in mind that the invocation with breaths,
reflection, Divine closeness and Divine presence correspond
with four levels of innerself respectively. They are pointed out in
the verse:
Meaning: Take four birds and tame them to feel attached to you;
then (slaughter them and) place a piece of each of them on each
hill. (2:260)
Shams of Tabriz uttered:
‫اہچر وبدل ہس ُشدل اونکم دومی‬
‫دشل‬ ‫اتکی‬ ‫بگمتش‬ ‫دویئ‬ ‫ز‬ ‫و‬
Explanation: Previously I was four, then became three and
afterwards two. When came out of duality, I became one with
Allah.
The writer answers:
62

Explanation: The beginning is one and finality is also to become
one. Surpassing from duality is better than being an angel.
The innerself of the Mystics merges with their inward, inward
merges with the soul and the soul merges with the secret. Hence
the Mystic elevates to the level of Mystic immortal with Allah
and becomes a man of Divine secrets. There is nothing that the
Mystic is not aware of or is concealed from him. Mystic
immortal with Allah is the one who takes the seekers of Allah to
Him granting His unveiled vision without indulging in any kind
of struggle or asceticism. As, burning for a moment in the
theophanies of Divine light is harder than hundreds of forty-day
seclusions and laborious struggles. The Mystic immortal with
Allah blessed with light of Divine presence is the one who
acquaints the seekers of Allah with their own existence and
shows them their innerself, inward, soul and the secret each
separately. Hadiths:
Meaning: Whoever recognized his innerself undoubtedly recognized
his Lord.
Meaning: He who recognizes his Lord becomes silent.
Meaning: One who recognized his innerself by annihilating it,
recognized his Lord by gaining immortality with Him.
It is disrespectful to call those blessed with Divine presence by
their name unless unavoidable. The Mystic immortal with Allah
63

is absolved of the need of invocation, reflection or gaining

knowledge as he has reached the station of Lordship after
recognizing the Lord and is immersed in the light of Allah
attaining to Oneness. The esoteric matters need some exoteric
platform to manifest. The exoteric path is entirely based on
verbal exhortation while the esoteric way is to silently immerse
in Divinity. The esoteric way is that of Mystics immortal with
Allah who are courageous and intoxicated with the wine of
Divine passion. There are different kinds of Mystics; Mystic of
knowledge, Mystic delightfully occupied with invocation and
reflection, Mystic of recitals, Mystic having spiritual flight of all
spheres, Mystic blessed with Divine closeness and union and the
immortal Mystic who is silently annihilated in Allah and has
reached Lordship. His silence refers to his slavehood while his
speech is his adornment and is blessed with eternal ranks.
Hadith:
Meaning: Knowledge is the thickest veil (that keeps away) from
Allah.
If you wish to have Divine presence then what you need to do is
to invoke and reflect upon the essence of your life. A Qudsi
Hadith says:
Meaning: Reflect upon His blessings not upon the Essence.
Immersion in the light of Allah and Divine presence are His
greatest blessings. One should reflect upon them not upon His
Form or Essence as Allah says:
ۡ ۡ ُ َّ َ ُ َ ٌ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ
)91:4 4 ( ‫الس ِم ۡیع ال َب ِصی ُر‬ ‫ لیس ک ِمث ِلہ شی? ۚ و ھو‬
Meaning: There is nothing like Him and He alone is All-
Hearing, All-Seeing. (42:11)
64

Explanation: Leave the objections and listen to my answer;
invocation, reflection and knowledge are veils for a Mystic.
Knowledge is like an ocean, its each word is like a wave and the
practitioner scholar is like a boat while the immortal Mystic
spiritual guide is like the boatman who takes the people of boat
to the shore safely. The judge of truth asks the scholars to
present two witnesses; one is their knowledge and the other is
that they practise upon it. The state of scholar who does not
practise upon his knowledge is described in the verse:
َ َ ۡ َ َ
Meaning: Their example is like that of a donkey loaded with
heavy books on its back. (42:11)
Fiqh and Faqr both have four alphabets. When fiqh and Faqr
both merge together in a person then he is called the Sufi with
ultimate Divine Oneness. Hadith:
Meaning: Faqr needs nothing except Allah.
If Faqr is adopted without gaining knowledge then it is the
compulsive Faqr instead of the chosen Faqr and makes one
needy. The Holy Prophet said about it:
ْ َْ ّّٰ ُ َ
‫ ن ُعوۡذ ِبالل ِہ ِم ْن فق ِر المُ ِک ِّب‬
Meaning: I seek refuge in Allah from Faqr that brings disgrace.

65

Explanation: You keep begging for your family at every door.

This prevents you from travelling towards the union of Allah.

Explanation: Listen O embarrassed and disgraced one! You must
ask everything you need only from Allah.
Hadith:
Meaning: Allah loves the generous Fakirs.
There are three types of Fakirs. One are so-called fakirs who beg
from door to door. Second are the Fakirs who are like rulers by
the command of Allah, if they ask for anything it is only for the
sake of union with Allah not out of vain thought. Third are like
the labourers, if they recite dawat for anyone they take money as
its wages. The judge of truth asks the seeker of Allah to present
two witnesses; first is the eternal invocation which cannot be
acquired without the perfect spiritual guide. The Holy Prophet
said:
Meaning: Invoke Allah frequently.
It refers to the overpowering invocation. Allah says:
Meaning: Invoke your Lord most submissively and quietly. (7:55)
The Holy Prophet has called the overpowering invocation as the
secret invocation. It is neither done with tongue nor with inward,
soul or secret as Allah is non-creation and has decreed to
remember Him through non-creation. What is non-creation? It is
66

the medium of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. The eternal invocation grants

everlasting union with Allah while the eternal reflection leads to
annihilation of the innerself. How the innerself is annihilated?
By immersing in meditation and concentration upon Ism-e-Allah
Zaat. During the meditation, seeker can reach wherever he
wishes and converse with whomever he wants. After coming out
of the state of meditation he remembers everything and whatever
he has seen esoterically manifests exoterically. It makes his
existence purified. The observation during meditation is also of
two kinds. One is the observation of spheres that does not
annihilate the innerself. It is annihilated only by the observation
of Essence. Whatever the seeker observes and understands
during this, he cannot exemplify it with anything. Allah says:
Meaning: And invoke your Lord when you forget (everything and
even yourself). (18:24)
The Holy Prophet said:
ُ َ َُ ٌ َ ْ ّّٰ َ
‫ ل ِ ْی َمع الل ِہ َوق ٌت ل َا یَ َس ُعنِ ْی فِ ْی ِہ َملک ّمق ّ َر ٌب َو لَا ن ِب ٌّی ّم ْر َس ٌل‬
Meaning: At times I have such closeness with Allah when neither
any Prophet nor any archangel is between us.
Many people hold their heart during invocation and call it eternal
invocation. They shake their heart up and down with invocation
and claim that this is holding the heart. They say wrong! This is
a useless practice rather unlawful as holding the breath is a ritual
of infidels and just a wastage. Such people are totally unaware of
the real invocation of Allah and are like the animals. One must
repent thousand times from following their practice and should
not believe this group as their way leads nowhere. They are
imperfect and far from Allah. The true man of inward invocation
has four signs; firstly he observes Mohammadan Assembly every
night, secondly he completely trusts that there is no God but
67

Allah, thirdly he follows the path of Faqr that leads to

annihilation in Allah and fourthly he renounces the carrion world
as well as company of worldly people. If one does not possess
these four attributes, it shows that the inward invocation is not
revealed upon him. No matter how loudly his physical heart
invokes the name of Allah and shakes while invocation. He
should know that his heart is in fact imploring and remembering
Allah for the sake of money. Such a heart seeks the world and is
sealed for gnosis of Allah. Heart is a piece of flesh just like the
tongue, its invocation is fruitless.

Explanation: Hold the innerself from making desires and engrave
the impression of Ism-e-Allah Zaat on the inward by contemplation.
It will kill the desire of worldly wealth present in your heart.

Explanation: Whoever loves worldly wealth, remains away and
unaware of Allah and the Prophet.
Hadith:
Meaning: Worldly life is preparation for hereafter.
Here the worldly life does not refer to the life spent in earning
worldly wealth as it is the asset of Satan. Hence the Holy
Prophet spent in the way of Allah whatever he got in the night
before next morning and spent whatever he got in the morning
before the night. It is the religion that prepares for hereafter in
the worldly life. The spiritually blind do not understand it.
68

Explanation: Allah says, “You can never attain to piety unless
you spend (in the cause of Allah) out of that which you like the
most.” (3:92) Thus you must spent in the way of Hoo whatever
you possess.
One must sacrifice for Allah that one loves the most like Prophet
Abraham sacrificed his son Ishmael. The Holy Prophet sacrificed
all his possessions as well as life for the cause of Allah. One who
does not renounce the world and relinquish the hereafter, can
never reach the station of Faqr. The hereafter is forbidden for the
seekers of the world, world is forbidden for the seekers of
hereafter whereas the world and the hereafter both are forbidden
for the seekers of Allah. Hadith:
Meaning: The seeker of world is an intersex, the seeker of
hereafter is a female and the seeker of Allah is a male.
If someone claims that he has been blessed with both the world
and the religion then he is wrong and a liar as the Holy Prophet
said:
Meaning: The love of world and religion cannot sustain in one
inward just like fire and water cannot be contained in one utensil.
If someone says that he has collected worldly wealth for the sake
of spending upon the Muslim widows, orphans and deserving
people not out of stinginess or covetousness of his innerself then
it is just a satanic excuse and ruse. Every morning Satan beats
69

the drum of covetousness. The first sin committed in the world

was due to covetousness.

Explanation: The true seeker of Allah only desires the vision of
Allah day and night. He is absolutely pure of covetousness.
Covetousness keeps one away from the union of Allah as
indulgence in it does not let him do invocation and reflection
neither grants closeness and union of Allah. He remains deprived
of the spiritual states of contraction, expansion, intoxication,
sobriety, ecstasy and is never blessed with waham and the eye of
Mystics which enables one to have vision of Allah with one‟s
eyes. Most of the cursed guides neither themselves seek Allah
nor their disciples are seekers of Allah. Such guides make name
by telling the hidden and their disciples check their good and bad
like spies. They seek name and fame that is why they do not turn
towards Allah. Perfect spiritual guide needs only one true seeker
of Allah as a witness to prove himself. The guide who needs two
seekers as witness is surely depraved. Such a guide is not
compatible for the true seeker who is a lover of Allah and is
eligible to be trusted as a witness. He is the one who has passed
through trails successfully otherwise the satanic seekers are the
enemies of spiritual guide. Allah says:
Meaning: O children of Adam! Do not worship Satan; no doubt
he is your open enemy. (36:60)
Satan is an enemy of faith while the imperfect seeker is the
enemy of life. True seekers who could sacrifice their life for the
spiritual guide are rarely found. Every day Allah wishes that
someone seeks Him truly. My dear! The person who cares for his
70

life so much, how can he sate from the world! Hence he remains
a traveller (throughout his life for earning livelihood) That‟s the
reason illegitimate and legitimate are equal for him. Hadith:

Meaning: There is accountability on legitimate earning and
punishment on illegitimate.
Meaning: They renounce the world for the world.
That is to say some so-called fakirs pretend to renounce the world
just to make more money. Only the immodest people seek the
world who surely possess one of the three attributes; either they
are jealous or hypocrites or greedy. Allah says:

Meaning: But when they forgot that reminder which was urged
upon them, We opened up for them the gates (to abundance) of
everything until when they luxuriated with all that was provided
for them, We seized them all of a sudden (with torment) and they
were struck with despair. (6:44)
The Holy Prophet said:
ْ ُ ْ ْ ُ ْ ُّ َ
‫لدن َیا لَک ْم َوال ُعق ّٰبی لَک ْم َوالمَوْلّٰی ل ِ ْی‬ ‫ ا‬
Meaning: The world and hereafter are for you, for me there is
only Allah.
You must know that listening music and songs, worshipping the
apparent beauty, drinking wine and leaving the salat ruins one‟s
inward. Some people keep sobbing and run around with torn
clothes or dance crazily to show off their ecstatic state. This is
71

utterly against the Mohammadan Faqr and these people are

wretched devils who cannot accomplish anything in Faqr and
remain imperfect. This so-called mysticism is not the way of
Saints of Allah and such people are perplexed and deceitful lairs
stuck in their ego. Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith:
َْ ُ َ َ َ ََ
‫ئی لَا ی ْعرِف ُہ ْم غیرِ ْی‬

Zaat so that you attain to the truth and Oneness of Allah.

Explanation: When Ism-e-Allah Zaat will adorn your being and
they will merge together then you will get rid of your innerself
and Satan and will not have any worries.
Allah says:
)45:;1( ﴾﴿ ‫آ?
Meaning: Beware! Verily, the Saints of Allah will not have any
fear nor will they grieve. (10:62)
There is another group who conquer the supernatural beings by
reciting dawat and show miracles so that people are inclined
towards them. Some are the conceited shrine caretakers who
claim before their disciples to be the successor of a Saint by
wearing his turban. In fact they are the wretched ones who are
greedy for worldly wealth, name, fame and honour. They are the
72

oblivious heretics busy in building their monasteries forgetting

the true devotion of Allah. They are vain about their ancestors
and use their name to earn money and fame. They are also
egoistic and deceitful liars. The path of Faqr is neither related
with being a Sayyid, a Quraishi or a follower of Suhrawardi,
Chishti or Naqshbandi order nor with being famous. It is related
with the gnosis of Allah and He blesses it to whom He wishes.
The Holy Prophet said:
ُ ُ ّّٰ ْ َ َّ ْ ْ َ َُ َ
ِ ‫ یَا فا ِطمَۃلا تح َزن ِی َعل ّٰی ِا نک ِبن‬
‫ت َر ُسوْ ُل الل ِہ ِا ۡعمَلوۡا ِا ۡعمَلوۡا‬
Meaning: O Fatima! Do not be fearless even if you are a
daughter of Prophet of Allah. Do good deeds! Do good deeds!
My arguments are based on Quran while the arguments of
ignorant are satanic. Allah says:
َ ۡ َ
Meaning: On that Day man will flee from his brother. (80:34)

Meaning: On that Day every person will be in such a (dismal)
state that will make him unconcerned (with everyone else). (80:37)
There are some fortunate people who can have spiritual flight
and observation of all the spheres of earth and skies from the
Throne till the nether regions. They are blessed with the levels of
Ghawth and Qutb and can even read the Guarded Tablet.
However their rank in spirituality is just that of astrologers. They
are also stuck in deceitful stations and are egoistic liars. For the
Saints, Fakirs and Dervishes real miracle is to acquaint one with
Ism-e-Allah Zaat, drown in Divine Oneness and bless with
presence in the Mohammadan Assembly. For them perseverance
is better than miracles and high ranks. One must follow the Holy
Prophet with words as well as actions. He said:
73

just like the corpse is in the hands of corpse washer.

beloved of Allah is entirely different.

knowledge also bear testimony to it. (3:18)
Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani said;

There are three kinds of Saints;
1- Worldly Saints are the kings who are like shadow of God for
their subject
2- Saints of hereafter are the ascetics, worshippers and the men
of Allah. Men of Allah also possess all the characteristics of
kings who are like shadow of God as they are source of
peace for the creation. Hadith:

Meaning: The best person is the one who benefits others.
3- Saints of Allah i.e. the Fakirs who are annihilated in Allah.
Allah says:

Meaning: Allah (Ism-e-Allah Zaat) is the Guardian of the believers.
He brings them out of (all kinds of) darkness and takes them
towards the light. (2:257)
Ism-e-Allah Zaat is like a pearl and pearls are not put in the
mouth of dogs. If you want to do so then first elevate the dog to
the level of dog of the companions of cave4. You should
understand that Oneness of Allah is like an ocean, contemplation
of Ism-e-Allah Zaat is like wave while the seeker of Allah is like
a bubble. When the wave drowns the bubble into the ocean, the
bubble and the wave become one with the ocean like the flame
and fire. The veil between Allah and His slave is the world. If a
person contains love of world in his inward even as minute as a

grain, all the Saints on the earth together cannot make him travel
the path towards Allah. The Holy Prophet said:

)‫(انبامہج‬ ‫الدن َیا َرا ُس ک ِ ّل خ ِط ْیئ ٍۃ‬ ‫ ترك الدنیا راس ک ِل ِعباد ٍۃ و حب‬
Meaning: Renunciation of the world is foundation of all devotions
while the love of world is root cause of every evil. (Ibn Maja)
Allah says:

Meaning: Eat and drink but do not spend extravagantly because
certainly He does not like the extravagant. (7:31)
The verse is about physical body and its proof is that the Holy
Prophet never had worldly wealth or possessions. Hadith:

Meaning: An indigent is under the protection of Allah.

Explanation: Do not fill your stomach till throat, you are not a
cauldron. Do not drink too much, you are not sand.
Fakirs annihilated in Allah are those who take the food of this
world but perform the tasks of other world. Their eating is
endeavour and their sleeping is observation. The Holy Prophet
said:
Meaning: My eyes sleep but my heart does not. (Bukhari-3569)
Know that the knowledge and true scholars have the essence of
Reality. They actually behold the Reality. How can the spiritually
blind by birth behold Allah! Certainty is gained through Faqr.
76

Faqr complies with fiqh and veritable fiqh is that which

complies with Faqr. If there is some difference in them, it is
surely due to some wisdom. Unwise are those who seek the
worldly wealth. Reality has a flavour that is tasted by the true
scholars that is why they are revered. You must respect them as
Allah also honours them. Serve them by offering oblations, gifts
and wealth for the sake of Allah. Otherwise, if you will be
unkind to them once, it will create such circumstances that will
provide enough reason to destroy you.
According to Imam Abu Hanifa the true practitioner scholars are
pure of pretence, do not seek worldly wealth and never take
bribe. Taking bribe is like eating the carrion and those who do so
have no fear of Allah. They fear from what they must not fear.
Knowledge is not related with lessons rather with deeds. If
knowledge makes one a heretic or an opposer of truth then such
a person cannot be called knowledgeable or a scholar. He is far
away from Allah and is like Satan because Satan was also a
scholar, ascetic and a worshipper even then he is a looter and
destroyer for the Muslims. I seek refuge in Allah from this.

ِ
Meaning: I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the accursed.
The scholar who seeks the world, loses the religion. All his
devotions like hajj and zakat are rejected. Seeking the world is
against the Sunna. The Fakir who wishes power and honour is
depraved even if the king keeps him close because his innerself
is impure with lust and greed. The word „Fakir‟ is derivative of
Faqr and by its efficacy Fakirs are fond and ecstatic (in Divine
love) like a crazy elephant. They are the men of elevated ranks
who do not like worldly pleasures. Hadith:
77

Meaning: Faqr is a Divine light and its manifestation is also in

the form of light.
One who manifests Faqr annihilates himself from head to toe by
engrossing in Divine deeds. When Prophet Moses joined the
company of Khidr, he made a hole in the boat, repaired the
broken wall and killed a child. Prophet Moses could not
understand the wisdom behind these acts hence Quran narrates:
َ ُ َ َ َ
Meaning: (Khidr) said, “This is parting (time) between me and
you.” (18:78)
Hadith:

Meaning: The good deeds of the pious ones are like sins for the
near ones.
When eleven hundred years will pass after the death of the Holy
Prophet, everyone will be spiritually dead except those engrossed
in Divine deeds and blessed with Divine union. They are saved
from all the calamities and antichrist till the doomsday. Allah
says:

Hadith:

Explanation: If you keep reading it, you will become a man of
religion and a Mystic immortal with Allah having truth of certainty.
Although there are numerous seekers but the Fakir seeker of
Allah who is annihilated in Him is only one. Unless one stops
using and relying on his physical senses, his inner senses do no
start working. Put one step towards the pre-existence and crush
the desires with the other then you will become the Mystic
united with Allah. The salat and invocation during which the
invoker does not get the right answer through a hidden voice or a
perfect reasoning is put in his inward or through true waham he
hears clearly „O My slave! I am here” then they cannot be called
salat or invocation. As Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, All-
Knowing, Eternally Alive and Forever Sustained. He says:
Meaning: Wherever you are, He is with you. (57:4)
Meaning: And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein. (50:16)
79

Allah is the Transcendent, not an idol. His worship is not like

idol worshipping. Hadith:
Meaning: No salat without the presence of inward.
Allah says in a Qudsi Hadith:
ُ ‫ اَنَا َم َع َع ْبد ْی ا َذا َذس َ َرن ْی َو تَ َح َرک َ َت ب ْی َش َف َت‬
)۸۸۲۲‫اه (ٰوکشمۃ۔‬ ِ ِ ِ ِ
Meaning: I am with My slave when he remembers Me by moving
his lips (by the invocation of Allah with tongue). (Mishkat 2285)
If there were no spiritual blessings like reasoning, waham,
inspiration and Divine observations in the esoteric way of
Mohammadan Faqr, all the travellers of this path would have
gone depraved and turned infidel, polytheist and reprobate.
Every path refuted by sharia is infidelity. You must know that
sharia means to follow the Holy Prophet. True spiritual guide is
the one who makes the seeker follow the Holy Prophet and takes
him where the Holy Prophet reached. This is the greatest Sunna
and the straight path which is covered by the grace of Ism-e-
Azam by the seeker having great existence. The spiritual guide
who cannot take the seeker to that level is imperfect and harmful
for the faith while an ignorant seeker is like Satan.
The spiritual guide who is a Mystic annihilated in Allah and
immortal with Him is the one who honours the true seeker of
Allah with presence of the celestial Mohammadan Assembly
through the medium of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and ennobles him with
titles from the Holy Prophet but does not claim it as his
achievement. Whomsoever such a spiritual guide blesses, grants
him ranks equal to his own by just a single glance. He is a man
of morals as the Holy Prophet said:
َ ّّٰ َ ْ َ ْ ُ َ ّ َ َ
‫اق الل ِہ ت َعالّٰی‬
ِ ‫ تخلقوا ِباخل‬
80

Meaning: Be attributed with the attributes of Allah.

The spiritual guide blessed with Divine favour is an eternal
companion of all the seekers of Allah simultaneously even if
they are innumerable like when the sun rises it lightens every
particle. Neither the particles are hidden from the sun nor the sun
is hidden from particles. Likewise are the seekers and the
spiritual guide who are always with Allah. The immortal Mystic
spiritual guide is the one who becomes immediately aware if his
disciple commits any major sin. He at once reaches the court of
the Holy Prophet and requests him to forgive the seeker for his
sin. Or he reads the Guarded Tablet and omits the point with his
finger where the sin of the seeker is written and instead writes a
virtue. By its efficacy the sin of the seeker is removed from his
destiny and he repents from sins being remorseful. The Holy
Prophet said:
Meaning: One who truly repents from sins is as if he has not
committed any sin. (Ibn Maja 4250)
The spiritual guide who does not possess even this much power
is not eligible for guiding others. The seeker of Allah must not
take persuasion from him. Allah says:
Meaning: And peace be upon him who follows guidance! (20:47)
People of tradition are those who seek the people of guidance.
When the doomsday will occur, worldly people will rise from
their graves in the state that their backs will be towards qiblah,
faces will be blackened, a collar of curse will be around their
necks due to their cruelty and their bodies will be covered with
snakes, scorpions and wasps.
81

Spiritual guide is the one who pulls everyone towards Allah. He

makes the seeker of Allah observe the reality of the worldly
people so that he is repulsed from them and the world. Only he
desires to become a Fakir who is sought by Allah Himself and
whom the Holy Prophet blesses with his company. Hadith:
Meaning: Loving the Fakirs is an attribute of Prophets.
Meaning: Love of Fakirs is the key to paradise.
Whereas world is desired by the one who is sought by Pharaoh
and is deprived of Faqr of Allah and company of the Holy
Prophet. Do you know what is the world? The Holy Prophet
said:
Meaning: Life of this world is like a sleep and its pleasures are
like wet dreams.
You must know that on the doomsday all the souls will rise from
the graves and stand in the requital field where Allah will be the
judge. After the accountability everyone will cross the Sirat
bridge and those who will enter the paradise will implore for the
vision of Allah;
Meaning: O Lord! Show us (Your beauty) so that we may savour
Your sight. (7:143)
Allah will descend fiery theophany of His light upon them equal
to the size of eye of a needle enveloping it in seventy iron veils.
All the creations will fall unconscious for years and years. Only
82

those blessed with presence of the Mohammadan Assembly will

be saved otherwise the fiery light will burn everything to ashes.

Explanation: One who could not behold Allah in this world, how
could he behold Him in the hereafter! The eternally blind cannot
have His vision.
Allah says:
Meaning: And whoever remains blind (to Divine vision) in this
(world) will be blind in the hereafter as well. (71:72)
Imam Abu Hanifa beheld Allah in dreams seventy times during
his worldly life. Though one becomes oblivious of oneself
during the dream but those were the dreams during which he had
special vision of Allah and got the right answers hence they were
not the dreams of oblivion. He got the power to behold Allah and
endure it and heard the words of the Holy Prophet during those
dreams. The Fakirs who are annihilated in Allah and immortal
Mystics are eternally blessed with Divine union and presence.
They remain immersed in the light of Essence in their worldly
life as well as in the life hereafter. The fire of Ism-e-Allah Zaat is
so intense due to the light of Allah that the fire of hell is cooler
as compared to it. That is why the inward of the Mystics upon
which Ism-e-Allah Zaat is engraved, keeps burning like the dry
sticks burn in fire. Whoever found the everlasting felicity of
closeness of the Beloved in both the worlds, found it from the
immortal Mystic Fakir. The seekers of world are deprived of
presence of the Mohammadan Assembly in the world and
hereafter because the Holy Prophet feels the bad smell of filthy
and carrion world from them. That is why the true men of Allah
83

keep themselves away from the worldly people. Allah says:

Meaning: Your (affectionate and caring) looks must not but
focus them (who seek Allah only). Do you seek the charisma of
the worldly life (shifting your attention away from these self-
denying devotees)? (18:28)
When you will seek only Allah and forget everything else, Ism-
e-Allah Zaat will omit everything from your inward other than
Allah. Every moment an immortal Mystic Fakir is in a different
time and space. When he recites dawat and prays for anything, it
is accepted immediately because communicating with souls in
the shrines is in the capacity of the true men. All the souls and
angels present on the earth and in the heavans are under their
command and authority. Hadith:
