SUBJECT MATTER: CLASSIFICATION OF VERTEBRATES

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson the student will able to:
a. Identify the different kinds of vertebrates and it’s characteristics that are commonly seen in the

202.
MATERIALS: Laptop computer, books, activity charts, TV, colored paper, pictures, markers.
PROCEDURE:
PRELIMINARY 1. Prayer, checking of the attendance, short energizer
ACTIVITIES 2. Lesson review: Vertebrates and Invertebrates
Recall the students that vertebrates are the animals which have backbone. Brainstorm the
students though the following activity: o Tell students they will have two minutes to brainstorm
and write down the names of all the vertebrates they can think of. o After two minutes, let
students count how many vertebrates they wrote down and ask them to share their written
animals.
3. Drill: Vocabulary Enhancement (Arranging the sentence)
Let the students arrange the words to make a correct sentence and paste it on the board. Let all
the students read the words pasted on the board and its meaning.
MOTIVATION: 4 pics 1 word activity. Let the students analyze the 4 pictures on the tv screen and guess the correct
answer out of the given picture.

PRESENTATION OF Teacher: Students, based on our activity who can guess what is our lesson this morning?
THE LESSON:
DISCUSSION: Teacher: Today we have will our board activity (Picture Matching). There different pictures of animals on
the board, what are you going to do is to match their correct habitat. Are you ready?
Teacher: What can you say about our activity?
Teacher: Is there difference in them?
Teacher: Can you identify the difference among them?

GROUP ACTIVITY
Teacher: To further explore our lesson this morning we will have our group activity.
Teacher: But before we start our activity, let us read all together of activity rules (SETTING OF GROUP
STANDARDS).

After your activity assign somebody to report or discuss your work in class.

Teacher: Did you learn something in our activity?

Teacher: There are different kinds of animals or organisms in our surroundings, we determine them to
their different characteristics, how they live, how they survive, how they move, what they eat.
There are different kinds of vertebrates. They are classified into 5 groups namely:
MAMALS, REPTILES, AMPHIBIANS, BIRDS, FISHES.

MAMALS -are warm blooded animals, they have hair or fur, they develop their young inside their mother’s
body. They feed their young with their milk. They breathe through lungs.

REPTILES – are cold blooded animals, they have dry scaly skin, some of them born alive and some are
hatched from eggs.
AMBHIBIANS – are cold blooded animals that spend part of their lives in water and part of land, they lay
eggs on the water, they have smooth, moist, scaleless skins.
BIRDS- are warm blooded animals, they are only animals with feathers. The forelimbs are wings which in
the most birds are used for flying.
FISHES - are cold blooded animals, they live in water, they have scales fins and tails used in swimming,
they breathe through their gills.

APPLICATION: Based on your out put pasted on the board, Can you identify or classify the pictures of animals on the
board whether it is a MAMALS, AMPHIBIANS, REPTILES, FISHES, AND BIRDS.

To deepen our discussion in our lesson Lets have again our GROUP ACTIVITY.
( CLASSIFYING THE DIFFERENT PICTURES OF VERTEBRATES ACCORDING TO THEIR
CHARACTERISTICS).
The students once again paste the different pictures of vertebrates on the board.
VALUING : Based on your ideas what are the importance of vertebrate animals in our lives?
Why we should know the different classification of vertebrates?
“We are stewards of God’s Creations” How will you apply this in your daily life?
GENERALIZATION: What do you call to the animals that has a back bone?
What are different classification of vertebrates?
Describe the different classification of vertebrate? How do they move? Where do they live? What are their
body coverings? How do they reproduce?

EVALUATION: Identify the different classification of vertebrate animals using the KAHOOT APPLICATION GAMES on
the computer.
ASSIGNMENT: 1. Make a symbol and slogan on how you can take care and love the animals in a short bond paper
with margins.
2. Complete the chart about the characteristics of each kind of vertebrate.
