Lesson Terminating and Connecting
5 Electrical Wiring and
Electronic Circuit
A beginner needs to attain special hand tools and equipment to work with electronic
and electrical circuits. Every hand tool and equipment does one or more specific task
in joining, changing, safeguarding and troubleshooting of electronic circuits.
It is better for a novice to learn first how to use these hand tools and equipment and
where to use them, before they can begin to form or assemble simple circuit up to
complicated ones.
What’s In
Electronic and electrical devices are significant in our daily lives. However, these
devices require maintenance with the use of hand tools. Terminating or connecting
wires and circuits enables connection of both ends of a cable or to the terminal of
the equipment with proper use and selection of hand tools.
7
What’s New
The knowledge and aid of using the multi-tester and other sophisticated equipment
now a days such as Electric Hand drill, Multi-Volts Power Supply and Soldering
pencil, troubleshooting is possible. The following are the basic tools and equipment
needed for the repair of electronics devices and appliances:
A. Common Tools
8
Desoldering Tool – is an electronic
hand tool used to unsoldered
undesirable parts or device in the
circuit with the soldering pencil.
Multi-tester – is an electronic
equipment used to measure
resistance, current and voltage.

What’s More
Electrical Connections
Electrical cable termination is a connection of both physical and cable end that
connects to a different cable, or to the terminal of a component. The cable
terminations are designed to enable the physical and electrical connection of two
cable ends, or a cable end and a terminal of a tool.
Whether adding new electrical gear or rewiring is involved, the necessities for a
uniform and safe electrical connection are the identical. you would like the
acceptable wire, fittings, and a various of cheap hand tools.
You may need to create wire joints and splices in making wiring connections at home.
There are kinds of splices and joints in wire. An effective wire splice or joint will be
protected even before soldering. The soldering will serve as an extra protection and
also prevention of corrosion in the joint. Splices and joints in solid wire should also
be enclosed with electrical tape for safety.

Soldering
Soldering Process
Cleanliness is significant for efficient and effective soldering. Solder will not
stick on to dirty, greasy, or oxidized surfaces. Oxidation is very fast in heated metals.
The use of suitable solvent and chemicals are necessary to remove dirt, oxides, scale
and grease. Connections to be soldered should be cleaned prior to the actual
soldering job.
Tinning is the process of coating a metal with a light layer of solder before
soldering. The material to be soldered should be tinned before connecting mechanical
surface. A thin coating of flux must be placed on the surface to be tinned after
cleaning, this may prevent oxidation while the part is being heated to soldering
temperature. Rosin-core solder is sometimes preferred in craft. However, a separate
rosin flux could also be used instead. Separate rosin flux is usually used when wires
in cable fabrication are tinned.
