Content Knowledge and Pedagogy
Activity 1
A. Read carefully and answer the following questions based on what you have
observed in class.
2. What are the challenges encountered by students in using ICT tools and
other forms for digital technologies?
The challenges that the students encounter is that not all of the students can afford to have
these digital technologies. With that, they don’t have any idea on how to use it. Like for
example, making a PowerPoint presentation. Students who don’t have laptops are struggling
in making or designing a presentation and do a research on a certain topic.
4. How will you promote the positive use of ICT to your students?
I will engage my students in an activity where ICT will be used. In this way, students can
explore more on using these digital technologies and they will be able to collaborate more
with their peers and be creative at the same time. Technology provides different opportunities
to make it more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching the same things in different ways.
Involving ICT inside the classroom can help develop their knowledge and skills.
Activity 2
A. Answer the following questions based on your class observation
1. Do teachers integrate research finding, empirical evidence, and theories to
support validity if content to be taught? How?
Yes, they integrate it by researching different theories and finding legit and valid sites in
internet and also in books that hold much validity when it comes to evidence. Moreover,
researched-based instruction and the principles of teaching and learning are to be taken as
a strategy that promotes the use of empirical evidence, scientific findings, theoretical
claims, quantitative data, or practical experiences to inform the content of lessons and
instructional strategies. Example is, a student poor academic performance can be
prevented by analyzing the problem and making appropriate strategies.
Activity 3
OBSERVATION
A. For each given domain, write down the literacy strategies used by the cooperating teacher
during your class observation.
OBSERVATION STRATEGIES
1. Oral language cooperative learning
2. Phonological awareness using music, rhythm, and dance
3. Book and print knowledge storytelling
4. Alphabet knowledge inquiry-based learning
5. Phonics and Word recognition organizing games, role playing, drama, and
charades
6. Fluency using audio and video materials.
7. Spelling inquiry-based learning
8. Writing and Composition Promoting journal and writing
9. Grammar Awareness and conducting experiments and practical
experience;
structure
10. Vocabulary Development using visuals, semantics, and graphic
organizers;
11. Reading Comprehension brainstorming and discussion
12. Listening Comprehension problem-based learning
Reflection
Complete the following base on what you read and learned.
I realize that, when it comes to teaching, the substance of the lesson is not the only
thing to consider or focus on; there are three essential knowledge that a teacher must
possess to facilitate effective learning as well as teaching.
I believe that Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) plays an important role in
classroom instructions. In the teaching and learning process, a PCK involves teachers'
competence in delivering the conceptual approach, relational understanding, and
adaptive reasoning of the subject matter.
I feel that, if a teacher has the PCK or Pedagogical Content Knowledge his or her
students will have a positive learning outcome. It will also make his/her teaching
lesson easier yet more effective because she/he will be able to identify how to make
the learning process effective because she/he will know both what are the proper
strategies or methods to use and enough knowledge of the subject.
When I become a teacher, I will ensure that I am well-versed in the content of the
lessons I will teach to my students, and that I am equipped with the appropriate
strategies and procedures to ensure the efficacy of my instruction and the achievement
of my goals.
