FOREWORD
The American National Standards Committee B 107, Socket Wrenches and Drives, under
sponsorship by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, held its organizational
meeting on June 28, 1967. Subcommittees were subsequently organized to handle the
expanded need of both inch and metric series American National Standards Institute
standards dealing with wrenches, handles and attachments. This Standard is one of a
series of such standards.
Members of the Hand Tools Institute have been major contributors to the development
of these standards in their committee work, their knowledge of the products and their
active efforts in the promotion of adoption of the standards.
The Standard was submitted to the industry for review and comment. Following the
approval by the Standards Committee B107 and the sponsor, it was approved by the
American National Standards Institute on November 8,1978, and designated ANSI B107.9-
1978.

The latest edition of this Standard, ASME B107.9M-1994, was approved by the Amer-
ican National Standards Institute on October 11, 1994.
