PERFORMANCE TASK

Name: Lawrence Sean F. Motin

As a young citizen of the Philippines, what are your roles in disaster risk reduction and management?

As a young citizen of the Philippines I can involve my youth in disaster preparedness and recovery efforts. I shall search youth-
serving agencies that can help me increase youths’ awareness of particular hazards and by motivating my fellow young citizen to join
as well, and by through this, can also enhance the chance that they openly discuss how to adequately protect their families and loved
ones and understand how to seek help in their community that will increase the safety of lives of people. Me being a young citizen can
play a range of roles in youth preparedness programs/services and play a crucial role in recovery efforts. This will help me improve
my skills in assisting communities in mapping their risk and protective factors.

My will as a youth will take an active role in climate change adaptation and local disaster programs strengthening others spirit
of volunteerism and unleashing their potentials in helping build disaster-resilient communities by letting them do the same. By sharing
the message, it can help share the message of disaster preparedness and risk reduction and management to others as well. This can act
as change makers by sharing information they learned in youth preparedness programs and helping parents and communities to
prepare for disaster, for example by developing a disaster plan or disaster preparation kit. I can also bring creative and resourceful
ideas to disaster preparedness efforts that can give others compassion to give their very best.

We can teach others to be incredibly resilient. We young people are able to cope up and adapt to changes. This allows us to
overcome difficulties in our lives, including calamities and disasters, and adapt with diverse range of people. My roles can also
contribute ideas and actions during disasters. By involving my ideas in disaster planning and management, I will train myself to be
better equipped and to respond appropriately and calmly when confronted with an actual event.

Thus, engaging youth in disaster risk management training and activities can increase our awareness and knowledge on what
to do and how to act when disasters occur, and may decrease the number of both youth and adult victims and casualties. Youth plays
an important role in disaster risk reduction and management, so if you are thinking that you are useless in times of disaster well think
again.
