laning of selected stretches of state highways under Package- II (Chhapiheda- Description
Nalkheda road)

CHAPTER – 2
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

2.1. INTRODUCTION

Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) has decided to implement the
Feasibility Study for rehabilitation & widening of Chhapiheda-Nalkheda road to suitable lane
configuration for safe and efficient movement of Traffic. Aicons Engineering Pvt. Ltd has
been appointed as consultant to prepare the Feasibility of the road.
2.2. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

2.2.1 Chainage Reference system

Presently, some Km stones can be found along the road side on project road. However,
topographic survey carried out for the project road revealed that these stones are not placed at
appropriate locations in terms of the distance between consecutive stones.

2.2.2 Existing Alignment

The Project road Chhapiheda-Nalkheda starts from T-Junction with MDR (LHS- Pachore and
RHS- Jirapur) connecting Khata Khedi, Kandeli, Nandani, Tolighata and terminates at the
start point of approach of High level bridge constructed over Kalisindh River. Existing length
of Project is 11.450 km & design length is 11.380 Km. The existing road passes through
important town/villages like Khata Kheda & Nandini.

2.2.3 Topography & Land Use

The project stretch passes through plain terrain (Start to End). Some drainage problems were
noticed along the alignment during road inventory but existing gradient of the road is to be
smoothened.
Land use pattern along the project road is mostly Agricultural (80.35%). Other types are built-
up (4.36%) & barren (7.86%), Details and summary of land use have been shown in the table
below:

2.2.4 Cross roads on the existing alignments

There are total 8 (1 Major & 7 Minor) junctions along the project road. Most of the
junctions are with village roads. Thus, adequate connectivity to surrounding habitations from
the project road is found. Details of the cross roads/junctions are given in the table below.

2.2.5 Existing Carriageway & pavement conditions

The existing road has single lane carriageway of width varies 3.0-3.5m. Pavement surface
condition is generally very poor throughout stretches. The existing pavement surface is having
bituminous surface. Earthen shoulder exists on the both side of the carriageway. Width of the
shoulders is varying between 1.0 to 2.0 m.

2.2.7 Culverts
There are total 20 culverts on the project road section, out of which 3 RCC Slab
Culverts, 14 HPC & 3 VCW. Chainage-wise details culvert are given below-

2.2.10 Environment & Trees
The project is located in the moderate rainfall area having annual average of 985.8mm with
lots of matured trees and vegetation growth alongside the road. Total numbers trees within the
toe lines of the proposed road which need to be cleared before construction are given below.
Total No. of Trees is 79.

2.2.11 Utilities Services

The general utilities such as electric lines, lamp post, high tension lines, well etc. are present
within the proposed ROW of the alignments. Total numbers of different types of utility
services within the toe lines of the proposed bypass which need to be shifted before
construction. Details of utility services within the road boundary are shown in the “Utility
Shifting and Relocation Plan” drawings.

2.2.12 Existing Black Spots

The existing alignment is passing through plain and consists of substandard curves. At few
curves locations no sight distances are available. These locations have been identified as black
spots. Photographs of such black spots are given below.
