Q2 Module 7 - Grade 11
You would definitely want to have a positive online image. You would not want to have negative or embarrassing
information be the first thing people who search your name get to know about you. This has become quite important,
especially when you finally practice your profession. Employers and recruiters may check online when screening job
applicants. Potential clients and customers might also want to find more about you before engaging your services. The
same is true for companies and organizations. People would want to know more about your group and what you do
before they support you.
While it is challenging to control fully what people can know about you online, you can influence how they find out
about these things by carefully managing your online presence.
One way to make sure that the first search result about you is what you want people to know is by creating your
own website. It can serve as your own business card and portfolio. You can even use it to publish your thoughts and
insights with a blog. People may also be able to reach you through the site if you provide a contact form for them to use.
LESSON 2
CREATING YOUR OWN WEBSITE
Planning Your Site
It is a good idea to plan your website first before building it. List down the information you want to share and assign
them to an appropriate page or section. Most personal websites contain the following:
• Home/Banner
• About
• Blog
PROPERTY OF SAINT JOSEPH ACADEMY, INC.
• Contact
These sections are designed to introduce yourself and
showcase your skills and abilities. The information may not
even have to be placed on distinct pages. A common trend
for websites today is to have all of these appear as sections
on the home page so that visitors only have to scroll down to
view all the information.
Next, you would want to do some wireframes or mockups of how you would like the site to look. This can help you
explore how to layout the different elements you would want to add. You may
use wireframing and mockup tools available such as Balsamiq Wireframes or
Wireframe.cc. These tools are specifically designed to create quick mockups for
websites and apps. They have preset shapes and elements that look like actual
web and mobile interface elements.
You can also use tools such as Word, PowerPoint, or Publisher to create your
mockups. Shapes and text boxes can be used as effective placeholders. You can
even make mockups manually using a whiteboard or using a pen and some
paper. You can even start preparing your website’s copy or text elements
during this stage.

There are many ways how you can build
your website. If you still remember your web
design courses, you can design and code your
website manually using HTML, CSS, and
JavaScript.
You can also use a content management system
(CMS) like WordPress and Joomla. These free
frameworks help you create dynamic websites
that allow you to add or change content readily.
They also have plenty of available themes that
you can use to customize your site’s design.
However, you would need a capable web host
to use these systems.
Alternatively, you can use site builder tools and services like Google Sites or
Wix to create your website. These also have templates and themes that you can
use to design your site to your liking quickly. Blogging platforms like Blogger and WordPress.com can also be used to
build sites.
Registering a Domain
To make your website readily searchable, you
may want to register your own domain name.
The domain name can be your own name or
your company or product’s name. To register,
you will have to use a domain registrar like
Namecheap.com or GoDaddy. There are also
locally based registrars, such as Web.com.ph,
MSWEB, and dotPH, who can do it for you.
