V semester ‘C’ section students were the beneficiaries of the industrial visit to Central
Manufacturing Technological Institute facility on the 15th of October 2015, Thursday.
The visit was scheduled at 2.30 PM and a bus was arranged to facilitate the visit from the college.
We reached the CMTI campus at 1.45 PM followed by a lunch in the CMTI canteen and then visited
the campus. The campus visit initially started with the metrology laboratory where students had the
chance to observe the working of various metrology instruments including Talysurf, Talyround,
Atomic force Microscope, Auto-Collimator, Focused Ion Beam Machine, SEM, TEM and Femto
Second Laser.
The students also had a chance to interact with few scientists in understanding the concepts better.
This lab is two floors below ground surface to facilitate standards in measurements and isolate
vibrations and noise from the measurements. The visit then was carried out in the Ultra Precision
Machining facility where the students were able to view the working of EDM, Hard-turning Machine,
Intelligent Ultra Precision Turning Machine, Micro stereo Lithography, Plasma Enhanced Chemical
Vapor Deposition, Physical Vapor Deposition facilities. The visit then proceeded towards the Vision
Laboratory, Prototyping centre where students understood the latest developments in the
manufacturing industries. The whole process was explained very well from the scientists. In the last
part of the visit the students were shown the working of machine shop with large and small achining
centre, grinding machines, milling and Abrasive Flow machining facilities.
The students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the scientists and research scholars in the rapid
prototyping center where they learnt the concepts of Direct Metal Laser Sintering.
The visit was impactful as CMTI provided a perspective of what industry is doing and helped students
to align and understand the gap between industry and academia and work towards bridging of
difference to enhance their knowledge and learning.

Brief Report for Industrial Visit to Foremen training institute
A visit to Foremen training institute was organized on 16th October 2015. The
participants from BMSCE were 1st semester students from MTech (MSE) and 3rd
semester C section students from B.E along with Dr. L Ravikumar and Mr.Madhav
Murthy and two technical staff. Totally 57 of us visited FTI,Bangalore.
It was a memorable visit as we could see the facilities at FTI, where the training is
skill oriented rather than theoretical based. The students were taken to various
labs like Electronics and Relay labs, Workshop lab which consisted of various
welding methods which were according to the industry standards. Students were
also demonstrated circuit breakers laboratory, importance of the same and
importance of knowledge of electronics in mechanical engineer’s work.
The students were also got an opportunity to visit Apex high tech institute which
consisted of Green energy lab, CNC maintenance lab which was a very good
facility to learn CNC maintenance and communications lab.
These institutes are run by central government and are boon to Indian students to
get trained in a government organization which is skill based.
HOD, Dr.L Ravi kumar sir was proactive in seeking the FTI’s assistance in grooming
our students and staff to which authorities obliged to his request.
