1. Explain why the earth is a closed system in terms of physical matter and
resources.
Answer:
A closed system is a term, which refers to a system that allows the transfer
or exchange of energy but not the transfer of mass. It has its limits and boundaries.
Earth is a closed system in terms of physical matter and resources. Our planet can
only transfer energy through mediums to its surroundings. However, as physical
matter and resources have mass, they are not transferrable. Another reason is that
physical matter is composed of chemical elements, which cannot escape the system
and only remain fixed to enter the Earth but never leave it.
