German Infantry Division:

Quality is usually Average. Towed weapons are often using horse limbers instead of
trucks. Anti-tank weapons were initially 37mm, then 50mm, then 75mm, and ultimately
(sometimes) self-propelled (Marders or Stugs). Note that before the F model, Stug IIIs
have only a Medium AP factor and a Light HE factor.

units rated as Veteran is possible in 1942. Anti-tank weapons were initially 37mm, then
50mm. The tank battalion is either Pz III and IV (in which case the AP rating goes to
"Heavy" for Pz IVF2s at the end of the period) or Stug IIIs (the armor goes to "Heavy"
and the HE rating to "Medium", but not the AP rating, as these are early marks of the
Stug). The motorcycle battalion is not always present.

German Panzer-Grenadier Division (1943+):

aircraft battalion, it may be attached-out: 3 other units without an AA rating may be
given a "Light" AA rating, or an existing "Light" rating upgraded to "Medium".

German Panzer Division:

Quality is Veteran or Average, depending on campaign (this divisional organization
does not apply to most Elite-rated organizations such as the SS, which would often be
better-equipped and have more battalions). Tanks for early-war are Pz IIs, IIIs, and IVs;
mid-war Pz IIIs and IVs (up-gunned); late-war Pz IVs and Vs. Early war there would be
as many as 4 panzer battalions; from mid-war on, 2 is the norm. Note that the mid-war
anti-tank battalion can be either self-propelled or towed - but there is only one.
Similarly, mid-war artillery battalions may be either towed or self-propelled. As above,
the anti-aircraft battalion may be attached-out to other battalions if desired.

"Medium" and increase their strength by 100.

United States Armored Division:

Quality is Fair or Average early on, with some Veteran battalions later in the war for
some formations. The anti-aircraft battalion must be attached out as 4 medium AA
factors. Note that the use of 76mm Shermans may make the AP rating for the tank
battalions Heavy after D-Day. (Tank battalions are 1/4 M-3/M-5 Stuarts, which may be
reflected in tabletop representation.) Note that some "heavy" divisions (2nd and 3rd)
have four tank battalions as shown and two light tank (M-3/M-5) battalions which are of
type light tank, light armor, light AP, light HE, and otherwise as shown.

3 Tank Battalions:
Type: Medium Tank; Armor: Medium; Strength: 400; Smoke: Yes; AP:

Notes on British Tanks: British tanks come in a wide variety of types, so rather than
spell out each possible combination within the divisional organizations, a summary of
the major types of tanks, along with the approximate years in service, is presented,
along with typical marks. There are two types of armored battalions: "Tank" formations,
made up of slower "infantry tanks," with a mission to support the infantry, and
"Armored" formations (based on the historical cavalry organization), which contained
faster "cruiser" tanks. Depending on theatre and year, the tanks could vary widely: as
an example, Valentine tanks were considered obsolete in Europe by 1943, to be shortly
replaced, but remained in service in the Far East for some time. Players can determine
which type of tank they wish to field, based on theatre and year, and rate their tank
battalions/squadrons accordingly. Note that there is some inflation of gun
classifications: a 2# 40mm gun is considered medium - it is replaced by a 6# 57mm gun
which, by the time it enters service, is still only medium due to general up-armoring of
enemy tanks.

Infantry Tanks: These were typically fielded in briagde formations attached to infantry

units for support. Note that HE factors reflect the inclusion of close support tanks in
these organizations. Sometimes, "infantry" tanks were assigned to "armored"
formations in place of cruiser tanks, in which case these ratings should be used.

British Tank/Armored Brigade
Quality is Fair, Average, or Veteran, depending on experience and theatre. Each
"regiment" functions as a battalion for game purposes.

3 Tank Regiments:
Ratings as above, except that a Medium AA factor is added from 1942, and
strength after this date may be increased to 400 where units are full-
strength.

British Armored Division There is a great deal of variation within this division type
over the course of the war. Major developments are indicated below. Quality may be
from Fair to Veteran, depending on year and campaign. In 1939-40 there are only 2
infantry battalions, and they have no AP, HE, or AA, although two medium AA factors
may be assigned to units in the division. In 1941, there are three infantry battalions as
shown, and three medium AA factors may be assigned. In 1942, there are four infantry
battalions which may be 400 or 500 strong, and there are three medium AA factors to
be assigned. In 1943, there are four infantry battalions which may be as shown or be
Armored Infantry, with an armor rating of Light. They may be 400 or 500 strong, and
there are three Medium AA factors which may be assigned. Regiments function as
battalions.

3 - 6 Tank Battalions:
From 1939 until Early 1940, three battalions are Mark VIs and three are
early cruisers; in 1941 all are early cruisers, crusaders, or Stuarts/Honeys;
from 1942 on there are only only 3 battalions, and an AA rating of Medium
is given. Strength increases to 400 for units which are up-to-strength.

2-4 Infantry Battalions:

Type: Motorized Infantry; Armor: None; Strength: 400; Smoke: Yes; AP:
Light; HE: Light; SA: Infantry; AA: Light.

1 Artillery Regiment (up to 3 in 1942):

Type: Towed Medium Artillery; Armor None; Strength: 200 (1939-41)/300
(1942-45); Smoke: Yes; AP: Medium; HE: Medium; SA: None; AA: None.

(1943 on); Smoke: No; AP: Light; HE: None; SA: MG; AA: None.

British Infantry Division

Quality is Average, may be Veteran depending on campaign. There is an anti-aircraft
battalion which provides three Medium AA factors to be attached to any units in the
division. Note that during 1944 and 1945 Anti-Tank Regiment may be up-gunned to
17#, in which case there is a Heavy AP factor and a Medium HE factor. Also, the
infantry battalions during this period may be Armored Infantry (Light armor factor).

Russian Independent Tank Brigade (until 1942)

Quality may be Fair, Average, or Veteran, depending. Russian independent tank
brigades are generally used in support of infantry divisions. Note that Russian
organizational types are much weaker than those of other countries, and the command
structure generally worse. Thus, a multi-battalion "regiment" will function as a single
battalion for game purposes. Note that KV-1s were generally organized into
independent Tank Regiments (not brigades, thus without the infantry unit), organized
as below but as Heavy Tank units with Heavy armor, Heavy AP, and Medium HE.

1 Tank Regiment (Combination T-34s/T-26/BT-5/BT-7):
