    NAME OF THE ARTIST   Datu Waway Linsahay Saway (Christian name:
    Rodelio) the Talaandig soil painting trailblazer in
    Bukidnon.
    LOCATION OF THE ARTIST   Talaandig community of Sungco, Lantapan
    Bukidnon.
    The Talaandig visual artists in Bukidnon have
    brought to the world the woes of nature, providing
    them with colorful soil through visually compelling
    paintings. Their financial disadvantage has pursued
    them to be resourceful with their surroundings.
    They have realized soil can be used to express
    their imagination. Helping Bukidnon to be known as
    the home of the original and authentic soil paintings
    and continuously promoting the province as the Soil
    Painting Capital of the World.

    The artwork of Waway Saway, which he entitled


    Balagnanangen or Storyteller was inspired to
    portray the Talaandig’s daily lives and their
    aspirations for the environment. Illustrating an adult
    ART DESCRIPTION/REVIEW 
    or a wise member in their community to educate the
    (Word limit: 250)  
    young ones in their tribe. Teaching and sharing
    their beliefs, knowledge, and culture from
    generation to generation.

    The artist used a considerable range of ochre-


    colored clays, pulverized, and mixed with water and
    glue, to paint their masterpieces. Applying different
    lines, shades, and colors of soil to bring out the
    features and detail of the painting.

    The soil on Canvas is a challenging medium that I


    realized when I first tried it way back in Grade 8.
    The soil on Canvass Paintings needs an extra
    amount of preparation and patience. It needs a
    different amount of water and different types of soil
    to gather different shades of brown. It gives me a
    sense of awareness and appreciation to your
    surrounding as well as one’s culture as a
    Bukidnons.
