Effective May 2019, the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM),
Ireland has accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree programs of All Saints
University School of Medicine, Dominica. The ACCM is an internationally recognized
accreditation body that uses standards similar to the Liaison Commission on Medical
Education (LCME) standards. The LCME is responsible for accreditation of Medical
Schools in the United States.

All Saints University School of Medicine is chartered by the Government of the


Commonwealth of Dominica.
All Saints University graduates will be eligible to practice medicine in the United States,
Canada, United Kingdom or any country that recognizes the FAIMER International
Medical Education Directory and WHO/AVICENNA Directory of Medical Schools.

• 4 Year MD I 5 Year MD
The 4 year MD degree program is designed for applicants who
have a Bac helors degree in the Sciences or the necessary
prerequisites.
It consists of 2 academic years of Basic Sciences followed by 2
more years of Clinical Clerkships. Basic Sciences are
conducted in our campus in Dominic a. Clinical clerkships take
place in teaching hospitals in various locations including the
USA, Canada, and the UK.
If you are a recent High School graduate and are interested in
getting direct admission into Medic ine, then the 5-year MD
degree program is the most suitable option. This program
consists of 2 academic years (4 semesters) of premedical
courses followed by the 4-year MD degree program. Students
are exposed to medical topics early in their education for a

Family Medicine

The fourth year consists of a minimum 24 weeks of elective rotations. The


clerkship­program is designed to help students further discover where their
interests lie when choosing their postgraduate training. The clerkship program
introduces the student to the many areas of medicine, enhancing their
differential diagnostic, treatment and management skills.
Clinical faculty members evaluate the students' performance in every rotation.
Personal and professional attitudes, appearance, knowledge and performance
are some of the criteria evaluated during each rotation. The university always
maintains high academic standards for its students and these same high
standards are used in evaluating students at affiliated teaching hospitals. A

B.Sc. (NURSING) and B.SC. (LIFE SCIENCES) DEGREE


PROGRAMS
All Saints University School of Medicine offers 4-Year (8 semesters) Bachelor
of Science degree programs in Nursing and Life Sciences.
Applicants must possess a high school/secondary school diploma or
certificate with credits in Mathematics or Calculus, English and Science
subjects, including Chemistry and Biology.
Students completing the Nursing or Life Science degree program may be
eligible to transfer to the 4-Year and 5-Year Doctor of Medicine degree
program upon successful completion of all the prerequisite courses.
Students completing Bachelor of Science (Life Sciences) degree program may
have the option of majoring in Microbiology or Laboratory Science.
Students with an Associate degree or diploma in Nursing may be granted
admission into the second year of the 4-Year B.Sc. (Nursing) program. Such
students will be required to complete the degree program over a period of
six semesters.

Ph.D. DEGREE PROGRAM (MICROBIOLOGY AND


IMMUNOLOGY) OR MEDICAL SCIENCES
Duration: 3 years
Opportunities are available for individuals with earned Master of Science or
MD degree to complete Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Microbiology
and Immunology or Medical Sciences.

Applicants may be eligible for stipends and research grants to facilitate


completion of the Ph.D. degree program. Interested applicants are required
to submit their application for admission as well as research proposals to:

FEES & FINANCES .................................
All students pay an application fee of US$100.00 and an enrollment/administrative
fee of US$1,000.00 at the beginning of a course of study at All Saints University.
If fees are not paid on time, deregistration may occur and US$250.00 penalty will be
applied upon reinsta tement. Returning students are required to pay tuition fees one
month prior to the beginning of the semester or a US$250.00 late payment fee will be
charged.

SCHOLARSHIP.
There is upto 50% of total tuition costs for eligible applicants. Food, lodging, and
transportation support of up to USD $1500 per semester for the entirety of the
program is available for qualified and indigent applicants. Furthermore, upto 5 merit
clinical tuition scholarships per semester for students with outstanding performance in
the finals of all Basic Medical Science Examinations. Citizens of Dominica are eligible
for 50% tuition fee scholarship. Credit-based loans and student line of credits from
various financial institutions and banks in the United States and Canada.
Students Government Fee
Every student is a member of the central student government. An additional
US$150.00 student government fee is to be paid annually at the beginning of every
year along with the tuition fee payment to cover the annual Student Government Fee
of US$50.00 per semester.
Additiona l General Costs - Food and Lodging
Food and lodging can range from US$500.00 to US$1,000.00 per month depending
on individual habits and preferences. Housing expenses usually vary depending on
the type of apartment preferred and if you are sharing with roommates.

The breakdown of fees for the 5-year MD Degree program is outlines below. Please
note that all fees are in US Dollars. All students pay an application fee of US$100.00
and an enrolment/ administrative fee of US$1,000.00 at the onset or beginning of a
course of study at All Saints University. Students are also required to pay US$100.00
for insurance and US$50.00 as a mandatory per semester Students Government Fee.
Any student who is absent for two terms without providing written request and without
obtaining prior approval from the University administration is subject to academic
sanction or dismissal at the University's discretion; this will appear in the academic
records of the student.

Student Insurance
The government requires that students obtain proper health insurance before they arrive on
the island. There will be no exceptions to this requirement.

search for the right insurance plan.

Indemnity/Malpractice Insurance during Clinical Rotations


All students are responsible for obtaining malpractice insurance prior to commencement of
their clinical rotations. All Saints will assist students with information concerning insurance
companies which provide this service. Please note that the cost of malpractice insurance is
not included in the tuition fees. The cost is approximately US$900.00 - US$1,200.00 per
year.

Tuition Refund Policy


A request for withdrawal must be submitted in writing, authorized by the Dean of Academic
Affairs to the Director of Administration. The amount of refund for students who withdraw
from the school in any semester is:
80% refund if enrolled for two weeks or less
1
60% refund if enrolled for three weeks or less
40% refund if enrolled for four weeks or less
The date of withdrawal is counted from the date of receipt of the withdrawal letter.

Students who are not Canadian or American students are considered international students.
Equivalent qualifications for university admissions in their respective countries will be
acceptable. Applicants will be evaluated on an individual basis. All Saints University has a
growing international student population from many different countries including Nigeria,
Germany, Australia, the Bahamas, Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Ghana, India, South Korea,
Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Taiwan, etc ...

TUITION
The fee structure is the same as the fee structure for US/Canadian citizens.
All international students are required to pay one year tuition fee (first three semesters) prior
to the commencement of the program.
The refund policy is the same for all students. On acceptance students are required to
submit the following to process their Visas. Transit Visas may be necessary for traveling to
Dominica through some countries.

Transfer Students
All Saints University may accept students intending to transfer from other accredited medical
schools. Transcripts will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee in order to determine
eligibility.

Transfer Policy for Students transferring into the All Saints University MD
Degree Program
Original copies of transcripts of academic records from previous medical school(s), colleges
or universities must be submitted. Original copies will also be required later by the ECFMG
before a student can sit for the USMLE and when applying for the residency match.
Advanced standing will be given only to students transferring from accredited medical
schools and/or schools listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED).
The University does not award credits for Basic Medical Sciences courses completed online,
through distance education or from non-accredited medical schools or schools not listed in
the IMED.
In certain cases, a student who has successfully completed Basic Medical Sciences and
passed USMLE may be allowed to transfer into the Clinical Phase of the MD degree
program.

Transfer Policy for Students presently enrolled in a ASU Program


If a student of the University intends to withdraw from the medical school, he/she must
submit in writing notice of such an intention at least one semester (4 months) prior to the
date of withdrawal from the University, stating reasons. Failure to comply with this automati­
cally means that the student will be considered enrolled in the program for the following
semester and must meet all of his/her financial and other obligations to the University.
Notice of withdrawal from the University received in less than one semester (4 months) to
the time of withdrawal will not be entertained and such a student will be deemed to be
indebted to the University for the following semester.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.......................
To be eligible to receive the MD degree of All Saints University, students must complete
ALL the graduation requirements of the medical School as listed below'

1. Successful completion of 5 semesters of Basic Medical Sciences.


2. Successful completion of 72 weeks of approved clinical clerkships/rotations at
affiliated or approved teaching hospitals.
3. Successful completion of a Na tiona l Board of Medical Examinations (NBME)
administered exit examination for Basic a nd Clinical Sciences,
4. Successful completion of the United States Medical Licensing Exa m (USMLE).
In lieu of the USMLE a student may complete Exams conducted by the Medical
Council of Canada.

In exceptional circumstances, a student my be permitted to skip any of the above-


mentioned examinations (USMLE/MCCQE 1) provided he/she completes
comparable examinations by a national examination body of the country where
the student intends to pra ctice. This will be treated on a case by case basis.
5. A student must be in good standing. He/she must receive clearance from the
different departments of the University including the student accounts department,
the Registra r's office, laboratories and the libra ry. He/she must also be of good
conduct and character.
