Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English

GRADE LEVEL STANDARDS: The learner demonstrates communicative competence


through his/ her understanding of British-American Literature, including Philippine Literature
and other texts types for a deeper appreciation of Philippine Culture and those of other
countries.

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:


 React to lay value judgement on critical issues that demand sound analysis and call
for prompt actions. (UNCODED)
 Formulate predictions on social issues.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Formulating Predictions
Reference: English 9 Alternative Delivery Mode, Quarter 4-Module 6
Materials: Television, Laptop & Video recorder

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preparation
A1. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Classroom Management
 Review of past lesson

A2. Motivation
 The teacher flashes a picture on the screen and let the students guess what will
happen base on the given images.
 The teacher asks questions to the student.
 Have you predicted something in your life?
 Did it occur? Yes or No?
 What was your basis in making such prediction?

B. Lesson Proper
B1. Activity
 The teacher divides the students into 2 groups, then explains what they are going
to do while presenting the rubric for scoring their work. She lets them watch a
short video clip about pollution. Afterwards, the students will create a prediction
by using evidence-prediction chart.

B2. Analysis
 The students present and explain their work in front.
 The teacher gives follow up questions base on their activity.
How did you come up with your prediction?
What was your basis in making such prediction?
What did you use to signify what will happen next?
B3. Abstraction
 The teacher presents the lesson and the lesson objectives. Afterwards, she discusses
the definition of prediction and steps on how to predict.

Prediction - the process that involves taking information or clues, and then using that to
make a guess about what will happen next. In making predictions, we use “will” or
“going to” to signify that it will happen in the future (to predict what will happen next.)

How to Predict?
1. Look at the clues given (title or images)
2. Make connections to prior knowledge
3. Create your prediction

 The teacher let the students formulate their own prediction by using another set of
example with follow questions.

B4. Application
 The students are group into 3. Each group is given different images and let the
students analyze each picture below and predict the idea presented. There answers
are written on the manila paper provided. They are given rubric in rating their work.

IV. EVALUATION
I. Directions: Read each sentence carefully and choose the letter of the correct answer.
Write your answers on the space provided before each number.

better, make connections to what they are reading, and interact with the text. Based on the

A. Predicting allows us to think ahead before we begin reading.

C. Predicting requires us to summarize the text before reading.
D. Predicting requires us to generalize the text read

For items 4 and 5, read the text below.

As Abdul wander through the desert, the high winds blew sand and stung his exposed skin. He
look back and he could see his footprints for hundreds of feet, beyond that the winds had blown them
away. He had no idea how far he had gone. He turned to his back to the wind and opened his canteen,
but there wasn’t anything inside. He rolled his tongue around the nozzle of the canteen, but it was bone
dry. Abdul dropped the canteen in the sand and continued walking. His steps slowed, he was getting
dizzy. The sun’s rays seemed to only increase in intensity throughout the day. Abdul was lightheaded.
He felt his knees get wobbly...
