    HISTORY OF BARANGAY IRIRON

    (SUMMARY)
    From an area covered by big forests and mountains, the place was
    transformed into an environmental with happy, industrious and God fearing
    people, joining hand to create a wonderful place for them to live in. The efforts
    they shared and hardships they encountered were not a failure. Their dream to
    own an independent and peaceful community is now a reality. This is no bastion
    against poverty.
    The first settlers of this place were the Bisayan’s who migrated from the
    Visayan Islands. They called this area as an Isidro, in the honor of their Patron
    Saint, San Isidro Labrador. They were the first people who suffered a lot and
    encountered different trials in the village. After so many events of staying in this
    place they returned temporarily, to their native home land and they answered
    that they came from ARA_RON means “Nothing”. The term became common
    among the settlers until there were such a time that this was change into
    IRIRON. Formerly part of Sablayan.

    In 1902, when Sablayan became a Municipality, Calintaan and its barrio


    Iriron, were considered the biggest Barrio of the Mother Town. Its boundaries
    are Poypoy from East, Malpalon in the Northeast, Concepcion on the Northwest,
    China Sea on the South. The location of the place is open to business and
    communications. Iriron was considered the oldest Barangay in the Municipality
    of Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro who became the strongest foundations and
    pillars during its golden years and served as Barrio Lieutenants were Leoncio
    Panganiban and Vicente Ariola Sr.

    The historical creation of Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro as a Municipality


    of Occidental Mindoro began in the early part of 1940; this was also the
    beginning of the triumphant journey of the Irironians to become successful and
    to be an independent Barangay. Its land area is made up of agricultural land,
    were farmers get their own subsistence and their greatest source of the
    Barangay income through farming, low land were people resides peacefully and
    hilly which is also the field of important resources needed by the community.
    This was leaded by the following Tenyente Del Barrio:

    Alberto Lineses (1953-1956), Honorato Albay (1956-1959), Martin


    Zamora (1959-1961), Ignacio Runas (1961-1963), Jose Bautista (1963-1966),
    Ostang Simson (1966-1968), follow by Melencio Oliquino as Auxillary or Vice,
    Constancio Vira Cruz and Cariaso Ayap. The first barangay captain was Domingo
    Bautista, Sr. (1973-1983) followed by its successors namely Rodolfo D. Pajayon,
    Sr. (1983-1987), Benita S. Ibuna (1987-1988) as OIC, Maximino Guevarra
    (1988-1989), Domingo Bautista Sr. (1989-1997) Merlita V. Ildefonso (1997-
    2010), Rodolfo Balicol Sr.(2010 – April 2013) Merlita V. Ildefonso became the
    Barangay Captain again after the death of Rodolfo Balicol Jr, and Diodesto R.
    Sumande (2013-2018) and the present Barangay Captain Merlita V. Ildefonso.
    Its total population as of year 2020; 4,760. Its total household is 1,226. Farming,
    Fishing, Copra making and quarrying are the beneficial sources of income of the
    barangay. All of this components same from its total land area of 1579.2847
    hectares which are all taxable and a total of 323, 1429 which are taxable
    exempted.

    The entire Barrio of Iriron are composed of different sitios such as;
    Bulangcog, Quintangan, Kiwkiw, Boac, Tuburan, Guiron, Nagapi, Barayong,
    Bongbongan, Mulawin, Wawa, Progrianan, Kinarasyawan and Kadkad.

    When it comes to economic stability, Iriron is rapidly competing with other


    Barangays in the municipality of Calintaan sand in some other Barangays in the
    province of Occidental Mindoro as well.

    Today, the magnificent Iriron is still on the go, it has its own Barangay
    Officials whose duties and responsibilities cannot be measured and compared to
    anyone. The barangay Council of Iriron, Calintaan, Occidental, Mindoro is
    spearheaded by the energetic and talented Barangay Captain, the Honorable
    Merlita V. Ildefonso.
    Today too, the Irironian’s will go sailing to look for more bounties and to
    thank the Lord in Heaven for HIS continues support and blessings
