    STMicroelectronics is the worlds leading supplier of ICs for pay-TV and conditional access, and has extensive experience supplying 8- and 32-bit secure microcontrollers for conditional access to pay-TV providers. Drawing on its expertise in security and non-volatile memories, ST is upgrading its pay-TV product family with the introduction of a new enhanced 8/16-bit microcontroller combined with EEPROM and a new 32-bit ARM SC300TM based microcontroller associated with high density Flash storage.

    Conditional access for digital pay-TV


    Conditional access for digital pay-TV enables broadcasters and network operators to offer various pay services for video, audio and data transmitted via satellite, cable or terrestrial over-the-air systems. Conditional access is based on smartcard technology with a secure integrated circuit, and controls the encryption and the decryption of user control messages, in order to descramble video, audio and data signals in a modular and transparent way. The secure microprocessor contains the confidential data needed to access the services and, no matter what kind of transmission is used, the smartcard IC secures the system with the set-top box. The 32-bit ST33F1M uses state-of-the-art 90 nm embedded Flash technology. It combines high security, high computation power and high-density storage. The ST23YLxx family is Common Criteria EAL5+ certified: QQ ST33F1M certified Common Criteria by Q1 2010 QQ ST23YT66 certified Common Criteria by Q4 2009

    New smartcard ICs with high-level security

    Anticipating new cryptographic requirements for pay-TV, ST has developed a complete range of new smartcard ICs with higher security, enhanced computing power (new cryptoprocessor) and larger density. The ST23 8/16-bit family is based on the latest 0.13 m EEPROM technology, and offers high performance and high security for pay-TV applications. Some products include full-speed USB 2.0 and an SPI interface as well as the standard ISO 7816 interface.

    ST23YSxx: highly secure microcontroller, EEPROMbased storage for symmetric cryptography with embedded EDES engine for software AES commutation. Relies on standard ISO 7816 interface. ST23YLxx: highly secure microcontroller, EEPROMbased storage, which offers a new hardware cryptographic coprocessor (Nescrypt) enabling best-inclass asymmetric cryptography computation. Relies on standard ISO 7816 interface. ST23YTxx: with full-speed USB 2.0 and SPI interface offers equivalent cryptographic services and security to the ST23YLxx. ST33F1M: highly secure 32-bit ARM SC300TM- based microcontroller combined with 1.2-Mbyte Flash storage. Also embeds Nescrypt crypto accelerator for best-in-class asymmetric cryptography computation.
