1. Settings:
- The settings are similar in that the latter one keeps to the original's core locations of a castle
and a forest or woods, giving off a medieval early monarchic culture, which is then reinforced
by the temporal setting of night and day, which accentuates critical passages in the plot. By
maintaining a strong relationship between the latter and earlier versions of the tale, this
preserves the audience's sense of familiarity. One may understand how the author of Snow
White and the Huntsman shaped the story's meaning through the story's required
intertextuality.
2. Characters:
- Snow White and the Huntsman's primary protagonists are, as the title implies, Snow White
and the Huntsman. So, clearly, this film distracted focus away from the dwarfs, who number
eight in all in this film, despite the fact that there are meant to be seven. Although Snow
White encounters the seven dwarfs in this film, it is not as significant as in the original,
creating the impression that the seven are simply minor roles in the plot. The wicked witch
stepmother, as usual, is there and malevolent, as are a few other characters. However, it is
worth noting that in this picture, the Huntsman becomes an important supporting character to
Snow White, which has an impact on how she transforms throughout the plot. The huntsman
played the part of the prince charming, kissing Snow White's lips to cure her of a deadly
slumber produced by a poisoned ointment. Furthermore, the huntsman provided her the
bravery and fortitude she needed to battle her terrible stepmother.
3. Plot:
- In terms of the narrative, I'm sure most people anticipated to witness a fairy tale scene with
unicorns and rainbows where a beautiful woman would be woken by a lovely prince when
they heard the teaser will be revealed. The teaser, on the other hand, showed a new Snow
White in the same realm but in a little different setting. The film used the majority of the
original plot's inputs but added additional aspects to twist the tale in a way that does not fully
remove it from the original. The beginning is, of course, identical to the first, but as the film
proceeds and the scenes get more intense, the viewer eventually learns that they are being led
on a little different journey. Although there is a nod to the original, the director's effort to
deviate from the original plot is palpable in the subsequent scenes, particularly those in which
Snow White trains and learns the art of combat, the meeting with the eight dwarves, and the
Huntsman taking over the prince charming for a healing kiss. The kiss does not appear to
represent the conclusion of the narrative, in which everyone rejoices and the bad witch dies,
but rather it lays the way for yet another big event. The plot then moved on and ended with
the protagonist triumphant.
