3manager offers 2 kinds of collectors.

1. The Data Collector
2. The print job tracker

When it comes to discovering local printers and tracking the print job
activity, the print job tracker is the answer.

How it works
The print job tracker registers printers when they are printed to. This is how local printers is also
discovered.

How to install it
This installation is very similar to the data collector installation.

Add a new print job tracker to the account: "Settings - data collector - new print job tracker"

In 3manager online
Do the configuration and choose if you want to track usernames and document names which is
important in relation to the GDPR.

First, install the master on any given Windows-based computer. When the installation is done you
will need to install the client software on the computers. You can do that either:
1. Manual or...
2. Using a mass deployment tool (Talk to the network administrator as they have one normally
in bigger organisations ... read more

How to download it
From your data collector view on the account, click the little settings icon and choose download.
Download the installation guide here

How to install the client (slave)
On the computer where the master is installed open the start menu, programs and then
look for 3logger.
Choose "Slave"
This will open a folder where you can either double click the "Slave" installation file, or you
can use the file + txt file for the mass deployment tool.
For manual installations, you can simply copy these 2 files to a shared folder on the network
and from any given computer navigate to that folder and double-click the installation file.

When the clients (slaves) have been installed, you can open the master 3logger and from here
click "Slave status".
Here all slaves will be visible and green which mean active. The text in the log is the last known
registered log. If a slave has a red dot, meaning the master cant communicate, then the last log
will tell what is wrong.

When will be discovered?
When printed to a local printer the slave will track the print and send it to the master which then
uploads it on a scheduled basis to the 3manager account.
Many organisations use the print job tracker for either local printing tracking or tracking user
printing.

The following will be tracked:
Name of USB printer
Computer its attached to
Print jobs sent in details + in summarised numbers
Username
Applications used
Print job name
Print job size (pages/size in file size)

Important:
Local printers are not possible to include in supplies management. No supplies are tracked
on local printers
Only print volume starting from discovery date is possible to register (as long as the print
job tracker is running). Lifecounts are not supported.

Track user print only
If you are not interested in the local printers, you do not need to install it on all computers. Simply
install the slave on the print server(s)
