Brief Introduction

Let us start your journey in learning about configuring router such as


assigning wireless name and password. If you don't change the default passwords of your
router, you are most likely giving hackers a chance to access your network which includes
your personal information. This module will utilize the TL-WR840N Router from TP-LINK.

Router is used to lengthen the section’s network by


transmitting packets between logical networks.
Specifically, (1) it connects multiple computers, phones,
tablets, or other devices to form a managed local area
network, and (2) it provides Internet access to all the
compatible devices that are connected to the router.

Steps in assigning wireless name and password to the TL-WR840N Router


Preliminary Procedure:

1. Connect the Power Adapter to source and to the POWER part of your router.
2. Connect your ISP to the WAN of your router
3. Connect your computer to any of the LANs of your router.
4. Use Dynamic IP Addressing: Go to Computer Settings>Network an
Internet>Select Ethernet>Change Adapter Options>Right Click Ethernet>Select
Properties>Double Click TCP/IPv4>Select Obtain an IP address
automatically>Select obtain DNS server address automatically>Click OK

Assigning Wireless Name and Password to the TL-WR840N Router:

1. Go to browser
<Type in the 192.168.0.1 (default
IP Address of TL-WR840N Router)
<Type in the username: “admin”
and password: “admin” (default)

2. Go to Quick Setup Tab<Click Next

3. Select Wireless Router as an
operation mode<Click Next

4. Select Auto-detect as WAN

5. Select No, I do NOT want to clone

Note: In creating password, it is a must to use an alphanumeric password


because it considered as a secured. An alphanumeric password contains
a combination of letters from A to Z both in lowercase/uppercase,
numbers from 0 to 9, and special characters like @ and &.
In this sample, username: DepEd-NCR password: SD0M@N1L@

7. Review the settings made and once
done, Click Save

The steps presented is based on the first configuration of router upon purchased. If you
want to update the wireless name and password, simply perform Step 1<Go to wireless
tab<perform Step 6.

Post procedure:
1. Get and connect a device to your established wireless network.

Activity 2: Sequencing

Sort the following steps in assigning wireless name and password to the
TL-WR840N Router. Put in the box provided letters A-G, where A served
as the 1st step and G as the last step.

Remember

A router is a powerful networking device. It enable users to connect to a


wireless network to perform certain tasks. It is a must to know the parts and function
of any device before using it, to prevent damage. Assigning wireless name and
password can be tough at first, but updating it from time to time will be easier.
Selecting an alphanumeric combination password will help to increase the security of
your wireless network.
