The following is the almost official RMSS table for Shadow World
Races. Some of the races may not totally conform to ICE's existing power
level in RMSS. I broke those guidelines to maintain the Shadow World feel.
The list contains all of the "playable races" on Shadow World that
have been published so far (170 so far). They must be fairly distinctive
and they must also have enough rough information for me to do a rough to
detailed extrapolation.
System Mechanics
I have removed the old number of Background Options that each race
received under the old system. All of the races now receive Talent Points
instead. The number of Talent Points they now receive is calculated by
using the rules and mechanics presented in Talent Law. I had to modify
some of the tables within Talent Law to reflect the higher level of
inherent power that some Kulthean races receive.
The Talent Points that each race receives are artificially high by
about 2-5 points. If you do give a race Adolescent and racial Everyman and
Restricted Ranks subtract about 2-5 points from the listed Talent Points.
The 2-5 bonus points are for any who get cheated out of Adolescent Ranks.
If you dole out just a bit of Adolescent Ranks then subtract 2 points from
the total, if you give out a whole lot of ranks then subtract 5 or more
Talent Points.
For those of you who still wish to use the old Background Option
system, your in luck. You may derive the number of Background Options that
a race receives by dividing the races' Talent Points by ten and then round
all fractions up. This will give you the races' new number of available
Background Options.
The Special Abilities of all the races listed were taken into
account for the calculation of Talent Point totals.
You will notice that some races have two listings for their Racial
Strength Bonus. The value on the left is the present or simulated Racial
Strength Bonus value which is currently used in RMSS. The value on the
right that is in brackets is for those who use my Rolemaster Strength
Table for RMSS. You may browse those rules at:

Power Level
As you look at all the races you will notice that some some races
have a fair amount of Talent Points while others have hardly any. You will
also notice that this tends to denote the races' inherent power level.
Don't be fooled some of the 65 and 70 Talent Point races can be very
potent, especially if you play to their strengths. You should review each
race very carefully before deciding to add it. On the other hand there are
a few Few Folk that have only 15 to 20 Talent Points that aren't really
all that tough or unbalancing. You should probably reserve for NPCs are
any race that has Talent Point total from 5 to 10 Points. Any Race that
has a Talent Point Total of 0 should be reserved for NPCs only. I run a
very high powered campaign. I personally would not like to deal with the
level of personal power and potential that one of the 0 Talent Point races
presents without being slowly eased into it. Then again, if you are a
power gamer, those are the races to have. Hummm, Thalan/Titan hybrid here
I come!
Note: The Sulli are a race of Skin-changers, they can change in to a large
Kodiak Bear. The majority of them cannot Skin-change. It was assumed that
most NPCs or PCs that were created from these statistics are
Skin-changers. If for some reason you do not want the PC or NPC to be a
Skin-changer than increase their Talent Points by 10.
Note: The Urnulli are a race of Skin-changers, they can change in to a large
Werewolf. The majority of them cannot Skin-change. It was assumed that
most NPCs or PCs that were created from these statistics are
Skin-changers. If for some reason you do not want the PC or NPC to be a
Skin-changer than increase their Talent Points by 10.

Notes: Any race that has a "Ta-" in their name are a half breed between
one human parent and the other listed parent.
Notes: Murlogi are Goblins. Tykiltorgi are a variant race of Kobolds. They
tend to gravitate to Mentalism Professions, with Magent being the most
common. Tykiltorgi are found exclusively in the Scorpion Ridge. They are
also know as Mountain Imps. Tykiltorgi are treated as Kobolds in most
respects.

If the Gamemaster is using the Rolemaster Strength System they may use the

Ruechei & Titans use the St value on the left if they are not using the
Rolemaster Strength System, otherwise they use the value on the right if
they are using the Rolemaster Strength System.

The next verson of this work will be called the Shadow World Races
& Cultures Book. It is currently being compiled by myself and others off
the Shadow World mailing list. This book shall be very similar to the
Races & Culture: Underground Races that ICE puts out. It will include a
one page summury of each race plus all the stats and further information
such as their langauges where they live and other useful and interesting
tid-bits.
