CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter describes the methodology that will be used in this study. The

chapter describes the following themes; research design, research locale, research

subjects, research instrument, data gathering procedure and data analysis.

Research Design

This study will use pre-experimental research design. According to (Bell, 2009) it
is to establish the effect that an independent variable has on a dependent variable. This
is a process which is to plan a study to meet specified objectives. Experimental design
sometimes called as the hypothesis testing. It is a set of procedure to systematically
test a hypothesis. (Bevans, 2019).

According to (Ary, 2009) that quantitative research is an investigation that makes

use of statistical methods operational definitions for generating numerical data in order
to answer predetermined hypothesis or questions. It uses a quantitative approach
because quantitative data is data that is based on statistics.

The researcher uses the one-group pre-test-post-test design usually involves

three steps: (1) administering a pre-test measuring the dependent variable; (2) applying
the experimental treatment X to the subjects; (3) administering a post-test, again
measuring the dependent variable. Differences attributed to application of the
experimental treatment are then evaluated by comparing the pre-test and post-test
score.
Research Locale

This study will be conducted in Dawan, Mati City, Davao Oriental specifically in
Dawan National High School.

Research Subjects

The respondents will be a class of Grade 7 students in school year 2021-2022 and the
researchers take one class to be the sample. There were ___ students in one class.

Research Instrument

The researchers use the achievement test. Achievement test are widely use in
educational research, as well as in school system. It used to measure what individual
have learned. Achievement test measure mastery and proficiency in different area of
knowledge. The researchers construct the question by itself. The advantage of a
researcher-made test is that it can be tailored to be content specific.

Data Gathering Procedure

The following will be the procedures to be followed in conducting the study.

Constructing Researcher-Made Questionnaire. The researchers constructed a

researcher-made questionnaire that aims to determine the extent of using Damath
game in teaching integers mathematics to the performance of mathematics of the grade
7 students.

Seeking Permission to Conduct the Study. The researchers will then ask permission
to conduct the study through a letter to be signed by the Grade Level Head.
Distribution and Retrieval of the Questionnaire. After checking the reliability and
validity of the questionnaire, the researchers will administer it to the students to gather
quantitative data.

TIME. The research will conduct in two month. The experiment will do to the sample in
nine times of meeting, two meetings for the pre-test and post-test. There are seven
meetings for the treatment and quiz. The researchers take seven meetings in order to
take the data briefly. In addition, the school has their own system in learning as
implement in curriculum or syllabus. The researcher avoid the miscommunication
between researcher and it institution.

Research Schedule

First Day Pre-test

Second Day Treatment and Quiz
Third Day Treatment and Quiz
Fourth Day Treatment and Quiz
Fifth Day Treatment and Quiz
Sixth Day Treatment and Quiz
Seventh Day Treatment and Quiz
Eighth Day Treatment and Quiz
Ninth Day Post-test

Data Analysis

The researchers will collect the questionnaires to tabulate and check the results.
After that, the researchers will interpret the data. The researchers will use statistical
tools to interpret the data

Mean. This will be used to determine the extent of using Damath game in teaching
integers mathematics to the performance of mathematics of the grade 7 students.
Percentage. This will be used to simplify means of conveying size or scale or value of
the Damath game in teaching integers to the performance of grade 7 students
