I. INTRODUCTION
Beyond the long and winding road and beautiful mountain ranges of Baclayan, Aripdip,
San Rafael, Iloilo, situated a progressive barangay of Ilongbukid. Amidst its hills proudly
stands a newly established National High School, committed to deliver quality basic
The school was established thru R.A. 8877, last August 22, 2000 thru the efforts of
congressman Rolex T. Suplico, Congressman of the 5 th District of Iloilo. The school has
four catchment areas namely: Barangay San Florentino and Barangay Ilongbukid.
A temporary five-room building was constructed in a 1.5 hectare school site purchased by
the local government unit (LGU) thru a resolution passed by the Sangguniang Bayan
headed by Hon. Glenn D. Dieron, Vice Mayor of the Municipality and with the approval of

On June 2002, through the collaborative efforts of the Local Officials headed by Mayor
Ronnie P. Baasico, Barangay Officials, concerned citizens and parents in the barangay, the
school started to operate with only two (2) curriculum year levels, having three regular
teachers in the person of Mrs. Pinky Abocion, Ms. Marijoy Arante, Ms. Christine Joy
In its third year of operation, the school had played a vital and dynamic roles in the
development of educational, socio and economic growth of the community. The annual
increased in enrolment poses a great challenge to the school, that is, to improve quality
secondary education to the young San Rafaeleños and its neighboring towns.
A deed of donation from the LGU to Ilongbukid National High School is currently worked
out through the concentrated efforts of the School Administration represented by Mrs.
Norma B. Dieron and Local Municipal Officials headed by Hon. Ronnie P. Balasico.

II. CONTENT

learners struggling to read. The learner’s inability to read fluently and decipher the
content hinder the child’s acquisition of knowledge and affects their academic
performance. Based on the 2021 District school monitoring, evaluation and adjustment,
there were 10 out of 450 students or 2.22% of the entire population are non-readers.

Ilongbukid National High School has identified learning gaps brought about by the
drastic change in the educational system. It was found out that some learners have
comprehension, spelling and syntactic analysis. The school has identified ten (10)

Recipients of this program are ten (10) learners all from grade 7 and grade
students. They are selected through Phil IRI results. The activities associated in this
program are the following: reading aloud (poetry and literature), storytelling, spell the
word, playing scrabble games, and dial me. The teacher facilitator plan to have the
Barangay centers as the venue for activity sessions. Twice a week, Tuesday and
Thursday the participants are expected to gather in the said venue observing proper
health protocol. Reading aloud, storytelling, spell the word, playing scrabble will be
done in face to face manner. Five hours with intermittent break is allotted for every
session.
Participants are provided with reading materials like flash cards, word strips story
books, newspapers specifically with comics section and crossword puzzle and a scrabble
board. The first two months of the program will focus on diagnosing learner’s difficulties
and teaching them the basic in reading employing the aforementioned activities and
resources. The next succeeding months will concentrate on developing learners reading
habits and assessing their progress and eventually measure the level of comprehension

It appears that the intensive remedial reading approach, the truthful/ firm

It was concluded that remedial reading is a form of teaching that is given to students
