Shell is a multinational oil and gas business based in the Netherlands with skills in oil and gas
development, production, refinement, and marketing, as well as chemical manufacture and
branding. They combine modern technology and an innovative strategy to help construct a
renewable energy future. They also invest in new transportation fuels, such as improved
biofuels and hydrogen, as well as electricity from low-carbon resources like wind and solar.
PURPOSE
Shell's purpose is to enhance development by
providing more and cleaner energy options. They
expect that improving living standards for a rising
world population will continue to increase the
demand for energy, particularly oil and gas.
Simultaneously, the need to combat climate change
necessitates a worldwide shift to a low-carbon
energy system.

LOWER CARBON PRODUCE
Shell has always acknowledged the importance of energy in ensuring a good quality of life, as well as the
climate problem. While technology advancements will be made, we think that successful policy and
culture transition will be required to encourage low-carbon company and consumer options and
possibilities. Shell promotes the creation of government-led carbon "pricing" systems that impose a
significant cost on CO2 emissions, which is required to make the transfer to lower-carbon energy and
fuel sources.
AVOIDING OIL SPILLS
Oil spills harm the environment and put their workers and neighbors at risk. They work hard to ensure that their
operations are well-designed, safely managed, and properly examined and cleaned in order to prevent hazardous material
accidents and leakage. Shell invests in equipment and staff necessary to cope with any spills that may occur.

IMPROVE AIR QUALITY

The production and use of fossil fuels have an impact on air quality. For consumers, they created more efficient
transportation fuels with a focus on enhancing vehicles' fuel economy. They also seek to decrease air pollution from our
activities, such as nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and volatile chemical compounds pollutants.
FRESH WATER
Shell monitors its water use and implements innovative ideas and technology to lower freshwater
consumption. Whenever they operate, they follow water regulations and create their own necessary
water requirements that are in line with industry standards. Shell adapts their freshwater
consumption to local circumstances since water scarcity affects individuals on a regional and local
level. They utilize treated wastewater, processed sewage water, and desalinated water as substitutes
for fresh water in certain of their processes.
BIODIVERSITY
Their programs have the potential to have an impact on biodiversity and dependent societies. Shell follows strict
guidelines to help minimize any negative effects their operations may have, especially in important habitats, which
are regions rich in biodiversity or that are protected. Earthwatch, the International Union for Conservation of
Nature, The Nature Conservancy, and Wetlands International are among the environmental advocates with
whom Shell collaborates. Preservation of natural habitats and ecosystems around their facilities is one of their
efforts with biodiversity collaborators.

HOW DOES SHELL CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL

WARMING?
Shell claims it completely supports the Paris Agreement aims and expects to achieve "net-zero"
emissions by 2050, which means it will absorb as much carbon dioxide as it emits. The corporation
claims that its goals will be met "in unison with society's development toward the UN Paris
Climate Agreement's goal." Shell's previous climate commitments were updated in February 2021.
By 2023, the firm wants to cut the carbon output of its processes and the co2 emission of its energy
products by 6-8 percent, 20 percent by 2030, and 45 percent by 2035. It seeks to achieve 100
percent reductions net zero in absolute terms by 2050. Yet, Shell is likely one of the most
significant sources of global greenhouse gas emissions. Shell was accountable for pollution in 2020
that substantially exceeded the 25 million tonnes of CO2 it hoped to collect and the 120 million
tonnes it hoped to reduce by 2030. Only 1,305 million tonnes of CO2 were emitted by Shell from
its energy products in 2020.
