At the [NAME OF YMCA] the safety and well-being of children in our care always has
been and always will be a top priority. We are committed to providing a safe
environment to every person in our programs, most importantly children who are
entrusted to our care. We have a series of measures in place to keep kids safe.
Currently, the [NAME OF YMCA]: [include all that apply]
o conducts National Sex Offender Registry checks annually on all staff regardless of
continuous employment;
o conducts State & County Criminal Record Checks (felony and misdemeanor),
Inmate and Criminal Record checks, Arrest and Booking Records
checks annually/every other year on all staff regardless of
continuous employment;
o conducts Social Security verification, 10/7-year address history, and terrorist
database checks annually on all staff regardless of continuous employment;
o conducts interviews and work history checks prior to hiring;
o conducts three reference checks for all applicants;
o requires all staff to complete training on preventing, recognizing and responding
to abuse;
o prohibits staff from being alone with a child where they cannot be observed
by others;
o has a policy in place forbidding/limiting electronic communication between staff
and youth
o restricts staff contact with children outside of YMCA programs;
o reports any allegations or suspicions of abuse to the proper authorities in
accordance with [STATE] law;
o completes a comprehensive child abuse prevention self-assessment through
Praesidium every two years;
o regularly administers a Board of Directors review of all Child Abuse Reporting and
Training
o requires all staff to complete [Provider]’s training on preventing, recognizing and
responding to child sexual abuse;
o follows/exceeds local licensing requirements for supervision ratios of staff to
children;
o reports any allegations or suspicions of abuse to the proper authorities in
accordance with [State] law;
o conducts [frequency] screenings of all members against the National Sex
Offender Registry and terminates all memberships that return positive.
