Motivation: “Pass It On”
lesson
The teacher will pass over a container with various words written in small pieces of paper inside it then the students will get
one paper each. After the students have picked a paper, she will instruct them to read the word written on the paper. Then,
she will ask them to match the word they got to the word that one of their classmates got. They will sit together with the
classmate they matched their word with and together, they will explain why they matched their words.

• Part to Whole - these are analogies in which one term is part of the other term
• Cause and Effect - these are analogies in which one term is the result of the other term
• Person to Situation - these are analogies in which one term is the workplace of the other
• Synonym - these are analogies in which both terms have the same meaning
• Antonym - these are analogies in which the terms are opposite in meaning
• Geography - these are analogies in which one of the terms can be situated in the other
• Time - these are terms that both speak of time

The teacher will provide 10 spelled-out analogies then the students will identify what type of relationship in analogy it
characterizes. A list of the Types of Relationships in Analogy will be flashed on the screen along with the analogies.
