caused the start of nationalism in the Philippines that led to the Philippine Revolution in 1896.

The Reform Movement was a push for change in the Spanish colonial system in the Philippines in
the late 19th century. It was led by enlightened Filipinos who sought to address social, economic, and
political issues in the Philippines. This movement inspired Andres Bonifacio, who established the secret
society known as the Katipunan in 1892, with the aim of achieving independence from Spanish colonial
rule through armed revolution. The Reform Movement 's call for change and its exposure of the injustices
of Spanish colonial rule provided the backdrop for the founding of the Katipunan and the eventual
Philippine Revolution .

The Katipunan was a secret society founded in the Philippines in 1892 with the aim of achieving
independence from Spanish colonial rule. The main aims of the Katipunan were:

 To achieve independence from Spanish colonial rule and establish a sovereign Philippine nation.
 To promote equality and justice for all Filipinos, regardless of social class or ethnic background.
 To address social, economic, and political issues in the Philippines, such as poverty, landlessness, and
the lack of representation in the Spanish colonial government.
 To promote a national identity and unity among the Filipino people through education and the spread
of patriotic ideals .

The Katipunan played a key role in the Philippine Revolution, which ultimately led to the
declaration of Philippine independence from Spanish rule in 1898 .

After the Tejeros convention, the path of revolution also changed. From separation to the colonizers,
the local elites who became the leaders after the Tejeros convention pushed for negotiation instead. It is
clear that the leaders back then were only after their own self-interests rather than protecting the interests
of the country and its people. In a document from the official gazette of the Philippines, it was stated that
Andres Bonifacio declared the proceedings of the Tejeros convention null and void.

The Biak - na - Bato agreement was a peace settlement between the Spanish colonial government
and the Philippine revolutionary leader Emilio Aguinaldo in 1897. The agreement ended the Philippine
Revolution , which was the first uprising against Spanish rule in the Philippines. The key implications of
the Biak - na - Bato agreement were:

 Aguinaldo and other revolutionary leaders went into exile in Hong Kong and received financial
compensation from the Spanish government.
 The Spanish colonial government agreed to grant certain reforms, including the establishment of a

provisional government, the release of political prisoners, and the establishment of civil liberties.
 The agreement marked a temporary halt to the Philippine Revolution and allowed the Spanish
colonial government to regroup and strengthen their forces .

Overall , the Biak - na - Bato agreement was a significant turning point in the Philippine Revolution
and set the stage for the eventual declaration of Philippine independence from Spanish rule.

Social media may serve as a significant civic education tool for young people. It offers a variety of
media production and consumption choices, enabling various young people to engage with social and
political issues. Social media should be used by youth to communicate the truth and promote peace. If they
are opposed to someone, an ordinance, a bill, or anything else, they should put it in writing and make their
opinions known through peaceful gatherings and debates. The youth should also pay attention to the
knowledge of the elders. There are several ways that young people can get engaged with social and
political issues. To start, young people can share their personal stories to spread awareness. The second
alternative is for youth to upload original content to a website, media outlet, or other social media account.
Third, youth can create visual media to raise awareness about an issue. Fourth, youth can share others '
posts about political and social issues. You see, social media platforms are making it easier to share
information rather than engage in civic dialogue, which has wider ramifications for civic participation on
these online platforms. As youth, we should embrace our civic expressions through social media creation
as valuable voices in our democracy. They should not be influenced immediately away by concepts about
which they are unfamiliar. For this reason, it's crucial to do some preliminary research and to read, listen,
and study thoroughly.
Heroes, public figures, and politicians have personal interests and biases. They often make wrong
decisions. Just because they are elected as leaders does not mean that they always act in the best interests
of the Filipino people. It is crucial for us to be able to demand accountability when our leaders fail us.
While we can applaud their accomplishments, it is our role as active citizens to criticize them for their
wrongdoings. Criticizing leaders does not make us bad citizens. Blind devotion of public figures,
especially those politicians and heroes, does not serve the interests of the country. It only tolerates their
transgressions and incompetence.

 I have learned that it is important for us to have the ability to demand accountability in the
moments our leaders fail us.
 I have learned that it is our role as active citizens to criticize them for their wrongdoings.
 I have learned that criticizing leaders does not make us bad citizens.

 After the Tejeros Convention, the leadership and path of the revolution changed. In terms
of leadership, the formerly mass-led revolution was now led by local elites who were eager
to protect their vital political and economic interests. With the change of leadership, there
was also a change of ideology - from separation to negotiation.
 After Bonifacio's death, Aguinaldo produced manifestos showing compromise and
willingness to negotiate with the Spaniards. The Biak-na-Bato Agreement became proof of
their willingness to negotiate and abandon what the Katipunan had started.
