1.0 GENERAL

1.1 Summary

A. Scope of Specification

1. This specification prescribes the general requirements for firewater pumps, drivers, controllers, and
accessories designed specifically for fire protection service, complete with intake and discharge manifolds, all
skid mounted and enclosed within fire water building enclosure.

2. This specification supplements the datasheets on which the operating conditions and special requirements are
listed in detail for each individual pump. Whenever the data included on the individual data sheets conflicts
with this general specification, the data sheets shall govern.

3. Compliance with this specification does not relieve Seller of the responsibility of furnishing pumps and other
equipment of proper design, mechanically and electrically suited to meet operating guarantees at the specified
service conditions. Neither does it relieve Seller of the responsibility of furnishing equipment assembled and
prepared for shipment in a professional manner.

1.3 System Description

A. General

The system shall consist of fire water pumps, controllers, and pump house, all skid mounted. The system will use
fresh water. Water supply for the Fire pump shall be from a storage tank.

The system shall utilize centrifugal pumps located in a pump house, with the following pumps and drivers:

1. Electric fire water pump


2. Electric fire water pump motor
3. Diesel fire water pump
4. Diesel fire water pump driver
5. Jockey Pump & Motor

1.4 Submittals

A. Refer to Specification SP-AMNT-4-002.

B. All documentation submitted by supplier for approval or review shall conform to Form E-212 attached to the
purchase documents.

C. Supplier shall list instruments and protective devices and specify make and model of each instrument item to be
furnished. Also, Buyer will select and supply Supplier with individual Equipment Numbers for all equipment.
Supplier shall use these Equipment Numbers for inclusion into all documents and for equipment tagging.

D. Supplier shall submit with his quotation as references owners, their addresses and telephone numbers of at least 3
facilities of similar sizes he has supplied recently.

1.5 Quality Assurance

A. General - Refer to SP-AMNT-4-002

1. Supplier shall be solely and entirely responsible for the process performance of the equipment and systems.
Supplier shall guarantee that the Fire Water Pumps will operate satisfactorily to the conditions and
requirements of this specification and datasheet.

2. Buyer reserves the right to witness any tests or inspections which he considers necessary to ensure that
components conform to Quality Assurance requirements. Seller shall notify Buyer in advance of all tests and
grant free access to manufacturing facilities, including those of his sub-suppliers, for such inspections.

3. Seller shall supply Buyer with the complete list of documentation that Supplier intends to produce for review.
Such documents shall cover manufacturing, quality control, inspection procedures, deficiency evaluation and
correction.

4. All inspection reports shall be made available for inspection by the Buyer.

5. All defects in excess of agreed acceptance criteria shall be reported immediately to Buyer by Seller and
evaluated by Buyer's engineering departments for possible corrective action. All corrections shall be subject
to Buyer's approval.

6. Seller shall not substitute major component sub-suppliers after award of a Purchase Order without Buyer’s
approval.

7. Seller shall assign an experienced project coordinator whose responsibility shall be to supervise all aspects of
the work.

B. The complete pumping assembly and all control equipment shall be guaranteed in writing for pressure, capacity,
and power consumption as required by NFPA No. 20 - Latest Edition.

C. Qualifications

1. Seller shall supply, on request, the current qualifications and experience of the following personnel on his/her
staff or with sub-suppliers: project manager, process engineers, design engineers, stress analysts, quality
control engineers, NDE technologists, welders and field erection representatives.

2. All non-destructive testing and reporting shall be done by personnel holding current qualifications to ASNT-TC
1A level 2 or equivalent.

1.6 Site Conditions

See SP-AMNT-0-117.

2.0 PRODUCTS

2.1 General

A. Materials of ASTM quality or approved substitutes shall be used. Castings shall be sound and free from shrink or
blow holes, scale, blisters, and other defects. The surfaces shall be cleaned by Seller's standard methods. Casting
burrs shall be filed or ground flush with the surface of the casting.

B. Instruments and valves, including auxiliary systems, shall be securely mounted or supported to eliminate damage
during shipment, storage, operation, and maintenance.

2.2 Equipment

Note!!! Factory Mutual requirements indicated in 3 7N 13 4N shall apply in addition to NFPA No. 20 requirements.

A. Fire Pumps

1. The fire pumps will be used for fire protection service. The pumps shall also be designed to deliver no less than
150 percent of rated capacity at a pressure no less than 65 percent of the rated head. The system curves shall
be continuously rising to shut off. The shut off pressure shall not exceed 140 percent of the rated pressure.

2. Suction Strainer
A cast or heavy fabricated type of nonferrous cone or basket type strainer shall be attached to the suction
manifold of the pump. The suction strainer shall have a free area of at least 4 times the area of the suction
connections and the openings shall be of such size to restrict the passage of a 12 mm sphere.

3. Piping and Fittings


Both inlet piping manifold and discharge piping manifold shall connect all three pumps and shall terminate in
a dual flange in vicinity of the skid perimeter for connection to buyer piping.

The following fittings are required to be furnished by the pump manufacturer for attachment to the pumps:

a. Suction and discharge block valves for all pumps

b. Hose header with hose gate valves, caps, and chains NSHT (National Standard Hose Thread) alternate flow
meter

2.3 Electric Driver

A. General
Electric motor and related equipment shall be in accordance with Specification SP-AMNT-6-010.

B. Control Equipment

1. The motor control shall be specifically approved for electric motor driven fire pump service and shall be marked
"Fire Pump Controller." The control equipment shall be completely assembled, wired, and tested at the factory.

2. Equipment shall be enclosed in 1 or more approved drip tight enclosures.

3. The controller shall be of the combined manual and automatic across the line type, incorporating the following:

a. Disconnect switch externally operable, quick break type.

b. Time delay type circuit breaker with trips on phases set for 300 percent of the motor full load current.

c. Motor starter across the line type capable of being energized automatically through the pressure switch or
manually by an externally operable handle.

d. The pressure switch set. The fire pump shall be required to be shut down manually.

e. Pilot lamp to indicate circuit breaker closed and power available.

f. Alarm relay to energize an audible or visible alarm through an independent source of power to indicate
circuit breaker open or power failure.

g. Ammeter test link and voltmeter test studs.

h. Means shall be provided on the controller to operate an alarm signal continuously while the pump is
running.

i. The controller shall also include a recording pressure gage and 7 days chart with battery backup of 24 hour
minimum.

j. Provisions for remote signals shall be provided to indicate the following:

• Controller has operated into a motor running condition.

• Loss of phase on the line side of the motor contractor in any phase.

• Phase reversal on line side of motor starter.

2.4 Diesel Driver

A. Driver

1. The diesel engine for driving the fire pump shall conform to the underwriter and shall be specifically approved
for fire pump service. It shall develop sufficient horsepower to drive the pump as required by the underwriter
having jurisdiction when operating it at the local elevation above sea level.

2. The engine shall be an open type, self contained power unit, mounted on a fabricated steel base, and include
the following accessories:

a. Stub shaft.

b. Fuel pump.

c. Air cleaner.

d. Overspeed shutdown device.

e. Governor.

f. Lube oil pump.

g. Lube oil filter.

h. Electric starter, generator, or alternator and voltage regulator.

i. Dual batteries with battery cables and rack in accordance with NFPA Standard Number 20.

j. Dual battery charger conforming to Insurance Underwriter and NFPA standards built in main control panel.

k. Heat exchanger cooling system complete.

l. Engine jacket water pump.

m. Water cooled exhaust manifold.

n. Instrument panel with water temperature gage, oil pressure gage, ammeter, tachometer of the totalizing
type, or hour meter.

o. Flexible exhaust connections.

p. Muffler mounted outside of building with rain cap.

3. The engine shall be arranged for automatic operation with wiring terminating in a junction box suitable for field
hookup to the automatic engine control panel specified.

4. Provide a complete underwriter's type fuel system for the engine as described and illustrated in NFPA Standard
Number 20. The fuel system shall include a fuel storage tank, necessary valves and fittings, and flexible
connectors for the fuel line connections at the engine.

a. A fuel/water separator and a moisture eliminator air filter shall be provided.

b. Fuel storage tank shall be sized to provide a minimum supply of 3.8 liters of fuel per engine maximum rated
horse power plus 5% for sump area plus 5% for expansion area. The tank shall be furnished with a direct
reading level gauge, skid mounted with secondary containment pan under the tank.

c. The tank shall be outside the enclosed house on the same skid for ease of fill, cleanliness and safety.

5. Cooling Water System

a. The engine shall be provided with heat exchanger mounted on the engine or engine base plate, and cooled
by water from the fire pump discharge in compliance with NFPA No. 20. Piping, valves, fittings, and related
equipment are to be furnished by Seller.

b. Flexible connectors shall be provided from pump discharge to the cooling water manifold and from outlet
of the heat exchanger to the waste water piping.

c. The engines shall be supplied with heaters in the lubricating oil or the cooling system to maintain an engine
temperature between 29 degrees C and 43 degrees C, with an ambient air temperature of 20 degrees C.
The heater and controls shall be wired completely and shall include thermostat and contactor.

6. Electrical System

a. The engine shall be equipped with a 24 V DC (Direct Current) starting motor and with an alternator and
voltage regulator.

b. Batteries shall be heavy duty truck quality and furnished in dual sets, complete with necessary cables and
connectors of proper size and length. An AC (Alternating Current) powered battery charger is to be
furnished by Supplier.

c. Battery trays (or boxes) shall be provided with a corrosion resistant lined metal bottom and legs to provide
cleaning of surface beneath trays (or boxes).

d. Boxes shall be constructed of 2 mm thick sheet steel of ventilated design and with steel lid. The interior of
the box shall be painted with acid resistant paint. The box shall be exterior primed and finish painted
according to Specification SP-AMNT-5-034 System-3.

C. Diesel Fire Pump Controller

1. The diesel fire pump controller shall conform to NFPA No. 20 and shall be specifically approved for fire pump
service. The panel shall be enclosed in a floor mounted dust and moisture resistant housing.

2. The controller shall be the combined manual and automatic type.

3. A pressure switch shall be provided that shall, upon drop in system pressure, cause the controller to open or
close the circuits necessary to automatically start the engine by performing the following functions:

a. Actuate the fuel pump.

b. Open the cooling water solenoid valve.

c. Crank the engine in a series of crank rest cycles automatically alternating between the dual batteries on
each cycle.

d. Disconnect cranking motor upon engine start.

e. Once engine is started, it shall remain in operation until shut down manually.

4. If the engine should fail to start after several cranking attempts, the controller shall disconnect the starting
circuits and energize an audible and visual alarm to indicate over crank. In addition, there shall be provided
audible and visual alarms to indicate high jacket water temperature and low lube oil pressure. The engine shall
not shut down for either of these faults.

5. The controller shall also include a recording pressure gage and 7 days chart with battery backup of 24 hour
minimum.

6. A weekly program timer shall be included. Performance shall be recorded as a pressure drop on the pressure
recorder.

7. Provision for remote signals shall be provided to indicate:

a. Engine running (separate signal).

b. Controller main switch on off or manual position (separate signal).

c. Trouble on controller or engine.

2.5 Jockey Pump, Motor and Controller, and Pressure Switches

A. Pump

The jockey pump shall be designed per the datasheet and shall be automatically controlled to maintain water
pressure in system. Jockey pump shall be the vertical centrifugal type.

B. Accessories

The following accessories shall be included with the pump unit:

1. Circulation relief valve

2. Discharge pressure gauge.

C. Controller

1. Starter panel shall be across the line combination starter with hand off automatic push-button in cover. A
mercoid pressure switch in the cabinet shall be provided.

2. In addition to the devices mentioned, the control shall contain a fusible three pole disconnect switch, magnetic
motor contactor, and thermal overload relays with external reset. The controller shall be furnished in a sturdy
wall mounted enclosure with hinged door.

2.6 Horizontal and Vertical Fittings

A. Seller shall furnish piping accessory items for the pump installation which will adapt the pump connection to the fire
protection system and test connection as follows. Fire pump fittings which are subjected to pump discharge
pressure shall be ANSI 250 pound rating. Fitting subject to suction pressure shall be ANSI 125-pound rating. These
fittings shall protrude through building walls.

1. Hose valve test head.

2. Hose valves with caps and chains.

3. Drain valve.

4. Ball drip valve.

5. Pump casing relief valve.

6. Automatic air release valve.

7. Discharge pressure gauge.

8. Water level gauge device.

9. Eccentric tapered suction reducer.

10. Concentric tapered discharge increaser.

11. Fuel line to diesel engine.

B. Additional accessories required when pump is engine driven:

1. Direct acting (spring actuated) main relief valve.

2. Relief valve overflow cone, enclosed type.

3. Discharge tee with elbow (for mounting relief valve).

2.7 Fire Water Pump Building

A. The building shall be self framing design using the roof and walls as the primary structural support system. There
shall be no interior columns within the building. The building shall have a 1 1/2 pitch interlocking panel roof system.
The roof panels shall be attached to the wall cap with stainless steel fasteners.

B. The roof system shall include a gutter and downspout system at side wall and matching rake trim at the building and
walls. All gutters and trim shall be minimum 26 gauge, pre-painted, galvanized steel and sized for climatic data.

C. The interior of the wall shall be lined with 48 wide x 1 1/2 thick polyisocyanurate foam board faced with #019
patterned white metal on the exposed side. The interior liner shall be secured to the exterior metal panel with
vertical PVC retainers. There shall be not metal to metal contact through the completed wall assembly and there
shall be not exposed fasteners on the interior metal liners.

D. The liner system shall be furnished complete with base, top and accessory trim. All PVC trim shall be self
extinguishing grade material having a flame spread rating of 25 or less.

E. The metal ceiling system shall consist of 16 side interlocking panels of minimum 24 gauge embossed galvanized
steel factory painted Parchment. The ceiling system shall be supported at its perimeter by concealed angles and
hook bolts. The ceiling system shall be furnished complete with all necessary connectors and fasteners.

F. The building shall be complete with the following accessories. All accessories will be installed except where
indicated.

1. A 380 volt, three phase terminal junction box to accept incoming 380 volt power and distribute to the jockey
pump motor.

2. A 115 volt, single phase circuit breaker panel board to accept incoming single phase power and distribute to
lighting, fans, and utility outlets. When single phase power is not available, an adequately sized transformer
will be installed to feed this single phase circuit breaker.

3. A 115 volt thermostat controlled ventilating fan, manual start/stop.

4. Fluorescent lighting for building interior.

5. Outdoor mercury vapor automatic lighting for each entrance, photocell controlled.

6. Utility electrical outlets on each wall.

7. Battery operated emergency lighting for building interior.

8. Sprinkler system for pump house interior per NFPA 13.

9. Necessary pump house piping.

a. Incoming line (through building floor/wall).

b. System connection (through building floor/wall).

10. Drain piping for stuffing boxes and casing relief valve.

11. A prefabricated 4 pump house drain line will include a floor drain for field assembly. Piping is to be assembled

2.9 Identification And Tagging

B. Tags shall be attached to each component with stainless steel wire. This tagging shall be in addition to the equipment

C. Miscellaneous parts shall be tagged or marked with the equipment item number for which they are intended.

indicate the nature of the contents, and shipping and storage precautions.

VENDOR DRAWING AND DATA COMMITMENT FORM

1.0 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE OF DRAWINGS AND DATA REQUIREMENT

1.1 IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT BIDDER FURNISH A DRAWING LIST WITH THIS BID, COMPLETE WITH DRAWING NUMBERS,
TITLES, AND SUBMITTAL DATE, AND COMPLETE THE COLUMNS ENTITLED "BIDDER PROMISE DATE".

1.2 Differences between the schedule of PT AMNT shown in "DUE DATE" and that of the bidder will be negotiable items
to be settled prior to issuance of a purchase order. The results of such negotiations shall be shown as the negotiated
schedule in Revised "DUE DATE" column and shall become part of the order delivery schedule.

2.0 FORM OF DRAWINGS AND DATA

2.1 The text on all drawings/data shall be English. All dimensional units shall be metric unless imperial units are
standard. Text in the language of the Seller may also be shown, provided the English translation is shown in a
prominent location.

2.2 All drawings and data, including Seller's standard drawings, shall be checked by Seller for accuracy, clarity,
completeness and conformity to the applicable codes, specifications, etc., before submitting to PT AMNT.

2.3 All drawings submitted shall be reproducible transparencies for approvals and final issue. They shall also be suitable
for making prints on an ordinary blueline print machine. Illegible items will be rejected.

2.4 Reproducibles shall not be folded.

2.5 The tag number that the Seller shall place on his drawings and data shall be obtained from the purchase order. All
identical items may be presented on a common drawing, provided that the tag numbers of all items included are
clearly shown.

2.6 Documents 8-1/2" x 11" or 8-1/2" x 14" may be submitted on ordinary bond paper; these shall be suitable for making
copies on an electrostatic photocopier machine.

2.7 Published data shall be a maximum of 8-1/2" x 14". An 8-1/2" x 11" format is preferred. These shall be suitable for
making copies on an electrostatic type of photocopier machine.

2.8 All drawings and other documents submitted by Seller shall clearly show the following legend:

2.9 Each drawing and document shall be identified with the following information:

2.9.1 Title, giving the description of contents, conforming to the title as shown on the "Vendor Drawing and Data

2.9.2 Purchase Order number.

2.9.3 Item/tag number of equipment number, if applicable.

2.9.4 Official name of Seller's company.

2.9.5 Seller's drawing number.

2.9.6 Latest revision indicated by means of a number or letter and a triangle with that number or letter adjacent to
the alternations.

2.9.7 Brief description of each revision in tabular form.

3.0 REVIEW PROCEDURE

3.1 PT AMNT will review these drawings for general suitability and adequacy and will return one copy marked with
"PROCEED", "PROCEED, CHANGE AS NOTED AND RESUBMIT" or "DO NOT PROCEED, CHANGE AS NOTED AND
RESUBMIT" (see below).

3.2 Proceed drawings: Upon receipt of a returned drawing marked "PROCEED", Seller shall proceed with manufacturing.
"PROCEED" drawings need not be resubmitted.

3.3 Proceed, Change as Noted and Resubmit: Within ten (10) calendar days after receipt of a drawing or other document
returned "PRO-CEED, CHANGE AS NOTED AND RESUBMIT", Seller shall make the necessary changes or corrections
and transmit "Certified" documents to PT AMNT. Seller shall proceed with manufacture upon completing changes
or corrections to drawings.

3.4 Do not Proceed, Change as Noted and Resubmit: Within fifteen (15) calendar days after receipt of any drawing or
other document returned, stamped "DO NOT PROCEED, CHANGE AS NOTED AND RESUBMIT", Seller shall make the
necessary changes or corrections and resubmit for review. When comments on a particular drawing or document
necessitate change in another document(s) or drawing(s) Seller shall then make the appropriate changes on all
related documents, resubmitting all revised and related documents at the same time. No manufacture is authorized
when documents are marked "DO NOT PROCEED, CHANGE AS NOTED AND RESUBMIT".

3.5 Seller shall submit certified copies of all the drawings listed on the "Vendor Drawing and Data Commitment Form"
stamped with the information listed below. Submittal shall be in accordance with the schedule. NOTE: DRAWINGS
NOT SUBMITTED AS "CERTIFIED" SHALL BE MARKED "PRELIMINARY". They are intended to advance engineering
only and do not fulfill the "Due Date" requirement.

Certification: Certification stamp shall include the following information:

3.5.1 Signature of duly authorized Seller representative.

3.5.2 Company Name.

3.5.3 Date of Certification.

3.6 Parts List and Manuals: Complete parts lists, operating and installation instructions, and maintenance
manuals shall be transmitted as certified.

4.0 COURIER INSTRUCTIONS

4.1 Sellers drawings and data transmitted shall be accompanied by a transmittal letter showing Purchase Order number,
Item/Tag number(s) and list of drawings and data submitted.

4.2 All drawings and data shall be addressed as follows:
