    During the COVID-19 pandemic, online teaching became necessary to ensure continuity of learning. Teachers had to quickly adapt by undergoing training on various online learning platforms and methodologies. It is important for teachers to educate students on responsible and safe internet use, as technology is ubiquitous. With the prevalence of social media, teachers face challenges in addressing the spread of disinformation online which can manipulate young minds. Schools must provide media and information literacy training for students as part of the curriculum, and properly train teachers, to empower students to critically assess information from all media sources.

    Learning to Teach Online.

    During this time of global pandemic brought by COVID19, technology has


    changed the nature of education and the jobs of educators. In the implementation
    of blended learning to respond to continuity of learning, schools were directed to
    establish a learning continuity plan to ensure that education will continue amidst the
    COVID19 pandemic.
    Online teaching and learning is one of the solutions. What is online teaching?
    Online teaching is the process of educating others via the internet. Various methods
    can be used, such as one-on-one video calls, group video calls, and webinars.
    Teachers were trained and engaged through a series of webinars and tutorials
    and various online learning platforms, methodologies, and other procedures were
    also used for them to be equipped with the essential skills to adapt to the needs of
    the time.
    Learners and parents were also oriented about the different means and other
    procedures of how the new normal way of teaching and learning.
    Online teaching is a big challenge among teachers because not everyone
    knows how to use technology or the internet.
    Internet Safety for Students

    Being a teacher of the 21st century, it’s important to recognize that students in
    modern times are surrounded by technology not only at school but also outside of the
    school environment. Whether they have a smartphone in their pocket or require a
    tablet, or computer to complete in-class assignments, and search for information, the
    internet is available almost everywhere. It is now a necessity. In this regard, it is
    imperative that teachers must educate learners on how to responsibly use the internet
    that is, a need for internet use education is necessary.
    In addition to the information discussed by the speaker, social media has also
    become indispensable in the world of internet technology. Teachers are facing
    challenges to the prevailing disinformation being spread online which are polluting
    and manipulating the minds of the young who uses social media.
    Propaganda, disinformation, misinformation, and fake news have the potential
    to polarize public opinion to promote violent reactions and hate speeches, and, to
    eventually undermine democracies and reduce trust in the democratic processes.
    It is imperative for schools to provide students with a solid education on media
    and information literacy as part of the curriculum. Teachers must be well-trained in the
    subject to empower students with the necessary competencies to critically
    understand and assess information reported by all forms of media.
