20 STEP CONSTRUCTION WORK FLOW

There is a complete 20 steps construction workflow for designing any
kind of architectural small or mid size project.
We should know each & every details about our project before
execute anything on site, so we can explain everything properly.
Our all Architectural drawing and design should be ready before

construction. (It will more favourable).
If you are experience then you can design with execution but it is little
bit risky & you can implement this only on small projects.

#1 STEP- PREPARE FIELD
- First of all, prepare the field/plot and level it properly
before taking any measurements.
- Fix all corners of the property with concrete marks. Then
take measurements.
(It will help you while layout demarcation)
- While levelling plot level surround 5-10 feet as well if
possible, this area we will use for extension while

demarcation.

#2 STEP- AFTER ALL ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING
- Before executing work on-site prepare all architectural,
structural & working detail drawings.
- Start layout demarcation as per design and counter-check
all centres properly.
- Check diagonals twice & show them to the client.
- Don’t forget extensions points (it totally depends on on-
site conditions).
- Finally experience matters a lot because we don’t know
what will happen on site.

#3 STEP- EXCAVATION PROCESS
- Start excavation as per structural design side by side
prepare steel mesh as well as all other required things.
- In this field, there would be a different condition on every
project. So we should prepare.
- PS: If you are working on a big project then be aware of
excavation & soil dump.
- Just go through a structural drawing.

#4 STEP- COLUMN LOCATES
- Locate all the columns carefully & perfect as per design &
countercheck it before casting.
- Check all detail like size, steel, pattern, centres & level as
well.
- While casting keep eyes on concrete ratio mix.
PS: foundation should be exact & perfect.

#5 STEP- PLINTH LEVEL
- Cast a plinth level beam & then slab as per design.
- Keep eyes toward drainage layout and curing before
plinth slab,
- Cast plinth slab without slop & keep eyes toward
concrete ratio (mix) and leave toilet block don’t concrete
there.

#6 STEP- AFTER PLINTH LEVEL SLAB
- After plinth level workplace Door frames, window Grill
placement & missionary work as per design.
- Check levels properly while fixing door frames.
- Keep eyes towards mortar ratios.
- And last one check staircase positions (chal/staircase
bars).

#7 STEP- MISSIONARY WORK TILL SILL LEVEL (3’) &
THEN TILL LINTEL LEVEL (7’)
- Check sill & lintel level properly while construction.
- Keep eyes towards elevation design and quality of work.
- Use skilled workers on-site for good construction quality.

#8 STEP- LINTEL LEVEL
- At the lintel level, there are 3 major components where
you should concentrate.
1) Lintel level concreting, 2)Chajja & 3) lofts as per your
project & design.
- Before casting discuss all those things with the owner.
- On small projects generally civil contractors cast staircase
till lintel level first & remaining at the time of slab.

#9 STEP- GET READY FOR SLAB CASTING.
- Brick work after lintel level to till slab beam bottom or as
per project.
- Keep eyes toward shuttering, steel as per design &
electric point as well.
- Dump all required materials on-site shuttering as well as
building material
- Check all levels properly.

#10 STEP- BEFORE SLAB CASTING
- All shuttering & electric points.
- Casting process, timing, weather & all required building
material counter check everything.
- Check everything before casting always remembers
“Precaution Is Better Than Cure”.

#11 STEP- SLAB CURRING
- Slab curing is one of the most important things, do all
stuff required for curing as per requirements & required
days.
- Observe regularly in this period.
- In which season we are casting that’s also important.
- Don’t start above floor work in hurry.

#12 STEP- FURTHER WORK AFTER SLAB
- Dismantle shuttering carefully.
- Before plaster electric pipe fitting & drainage as well as
overhead water pipes. ( all primary pipe fitting)
- Check entire pipe fitting carefully especially drainage &
water supply pipes.

#13 STEP- PLASTERING
- Keep eyes toward your interior design as well as
elevation design
- Keep eyes towards work quality, mortar mix, and
material quality as well.
- In toilets before plastering check water pipe lines
carefully.
- Wherever you are planning to use tiles, leave that surface
rough. (Rough plaster).

#14 STEP- AFTER PLASTER
- Start floor work like tiles fitting or any other items like
stone or wooden floor etc. as per client selection/design.
- Total work at this time:- floor tiles, kitchen platform & all
washrooms, etc.
- There are verities of materials available in the market so
go & check in your local area.
- Whenever fixing tile please check levels properly.

#15 STEP- DOOR & WINDOW FIXING
- Door, windows & ventilator use as per client requirement
& budget.
- There are verities of materials available in the market so
go & check in your local area.
- While selecting door & window keep in your mind where
exactly you are going to use & what would be the effect
after a few years.
- Think about natural light access & ventilation before
finalization.

#16 STEP- PAINTING & PUTTY
- While selecting a paint or putty check carefully where we
are going to use & do research about durability as well as
weather effect.
- Process of painting:- In Start putty (layer of coats
depending on plaster quality)>>then primer>>painting
(there is a lot of process in between all those steps for
quality of work).
- There are verities of paints & putty available in the
market so go & check in your local area. The most
important thing is where you are going to use it.

#17 STEP- INTERIOR WORK PROCESS
- False ceiling >> furniture design >> lighting >> colour
combination >> curtains & all colour combination
(Think about overall effect after design one important
thing is there is a lot of a thing in interiors so...
Study those entire concepts first).

#18 STEP- AFTER ALL THIS
- Now the client is ready for the house opening ceremony.
- Complete all payment and fees work before that.
- Maintain good relations with clients.

#19 STEP- ATTEND HOUSE OPENING CEREMONY PARTY
It will give you free marketing & give you a good business
in future.
But remember experience is the key to success in this
design field.
Spend more years or find a good mentor who will teach
you the proper process.
