significant socio-economic and academic variables that had been overlooked in earlier
research.Performance serves as the link between the two groups and the academic
institution, as without students' performance, neither the teachers' nor the academic

employing predictive data mining approaches. Typically, this area of study is known as
educational data mining. So, the primary goal of this study is to identify both the most
most frequently used data mining approaches to do so. In this study, 420 research

Predicting the students' performance has become a challenging task due to the
increasing amount of data in educational systems. In keeping with this, identifying the
predictive data mining techniques, is still in short supply. This field of research is usually
identified as educational data mining. Hence, the main aim of this study is to identify the
most commonly studied factors that affect the students' performance, as well as, the most
common data mining techniques applied to identify these factors. In this study, 36
research articles out of a total of 420 from 2009 to 2018 were critically reviewed and
analyzed by applying a systematic literature review approach. The results showed that the
most common factors are grouped under four main categories, namely students' previous
grades and class performance, students' e-Learning activity, students' demographics, and
students' social information. Additionally, the results also indicated that the most
common data mining techniques used to predict and classify students' factors are decision

The study aimed to identify the factors and to demonstrate their effects on academic
achievement in various publications that utilized meta-analyses. For this purpose, the
meta-analyses publications on the Web of Science-All Database till 2018 were reviewed.
In the study, the systematic review method was adopted. Following a related review, 169
meta-analyses were included in the scope of the study. The effects of 254 variables on
academic achievement were investigated, and consequently, 427 effect sizes were found
in total. Variables obtained from meta-analyses with the effect sizes between -0.799 and
3.170 were examined in nine categories. The results revealed that the number of variables
individual characteristics, learning theories and teaching strategies, and family was bigger
