Statistical Paper

The document provides instructions to analyze survey data from students regarding their online class experiences. It asks to organize and summarize variables from the survey including age, device used, internet source, self-confidence, and attitudes. Graphs and descriptive statistics like mean and standard deviation should be used. It also provides a hypothetical problem to calculate the standard deviation and conduct a z-test to determine if the mean high school GPA of students surveyed is less than 88% using a significance level of 0.05.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Refer to the data from the survey (submitted data file in Excel format)

1. Organize and/or summarize the following variables (use graph or descriptive

measures, such as central tendency and variation). Draw your findings for
each variable mentioned (at least three (3)).

➢ Age
➢ Device used in online class
➢ Source of internet connection
➢ Self-confidence (use mean & standard deviation)
➢ Attitudes (use mean & standard deviation)

2. Ask your classmates or any accountancy students about their high school
GPA. Minimum of 15 students will serve as the sample. Use the data to answer
the problem below (fill -in the blanks based on the collected data)

A survey to 15 College students was conducted about their GPA in high

school. It was found out that their mean academic performance is 88.2% with
a standard deviation of 4.79%. Is there a reason to believe that the mean
high school GPA of the Filipino students is less than 88%, at 0.05?

Solve for standard deviation:

S=
√ ∑ ( x−X̅ )
n−1

S=√(89-88.2) +(89-88.2) +(91-88.2) +(90-88.2) +(93-88.2) +(94-

88.2)2+(81-88.2)2+(85-88.2)2+(89-88.2)2

S= (0.8)2+(0.8)2+(2.8)2+(1.8)2+(4.8)2+ (5.8)2+(1.8)2+(-

S=19.141577782408

S=4.785394445602
Or
S=4.79
Steps:

1. Hypothesis: Ho: µ=88% H1≠88%

2. Significance level: α = 0.05
3. Test statistic: since σ is unknown, we use case 2
x̄−µo
z=
s / √n
4. Critical Region:
z<-zα/2 which is z<-z0.025 > z0.025
thus, we reject Ho if z<-1.96 or z>1.96, otherwise, we fail to reject Ho.

5. Computation:
88.2−88 0.2
Z= = =0.16129
4.79/ √ 15 1.24

6. Statistical Decision: Since z=0.16129 is not in the critical region, the null
hypothesis, Ho is not rejected.

7. Conclusion: The test result does not provide evidence to say that the true
mean grades is less than 88%.
