Explanation of Symbols
The following symbols are used throughout this Service Manual.

1. Each chapter contains sections explaining the purpose of specific functions and the relationship between electrical and
mechanical systems with reference to the timing of operation.
In the diagrams, represents the path of mechanical drive; where a signal name accompanies the symbol, the arrow
indicates the direction of the electric signal.
The expression "turn on the power" means flipping on the power switch, closing the front door, and closing the delivery unit
door, which results in supplying the machine with power.
2. In the digital circuits, '1' is used to indicate that the voltage level of a given signal is "High", while '0' is used to indicate "Low".
(The voltage value, however, differs from circuit to circuit.) In addition, the asterisk (*) as in "DRMD*" indicates that the DRMD
signal goes on when '0'.
In practically all cases, the internal mechanisms of a microprocessor cannot be checked in the field. Therefore, the operations
of the microprocessors used in the machines are not discussed: they are explained in terms of from sensors to the input of
the DC controller PCB and from the output of the DC controller PCB to the loads.
The descriptions in this Service Manual are subject to change without notice for product improvement or other purposes, and
major changes will be communicated in the form of Service Information bulletins.
All service persons are expected to have a good understanding of the contents of this Service Manual and all relevant Service
Information bulletins and be able to identify and isolate faults in the machine.

*1 If the cover sheet is thinner than the other sheets in the booklet, the cover sheet may be scratched. It is recommended to use
a thicker sheet for the cover sheet.
*2 The maximum number of trimmable sheets can change depending on the connected host machine.
*3 The possible trimming size can change depending on the connected host machine.
*4 If trims are curled, the machine might detect the full error with the small amount of trims.
*5 When the delivery tray is stored, the conveyor full condition is not detected, and the continuous operation is possible.

Overview
The drive arrangement for the fore-edge trimmer transport system is divided into four sections: infeed section, transport section,
trim section and conveyor section.
Control System
■ Transport Drive Motors
Infeed belt motor M01:
The M01 infeed belt motor drives just before the fore-edge trimmer receives the booklet from the finisher. The M01 is a stepper
motor, and is controlled by the stepper motor driver board QPW-973.
Main transport motor M04:
The M04 drives the transport belts in the transport section.
The M04 is a brushless DC motor, and is controlled by the main transport motor driver A04.
Trim section transport motor M10:
The M10 drives the transport belts in the trim section. The M10 is a stepper motor, and is controlled by the stepper motor driver
board QPW-973.
Conveyor belt motor M107:
The M107 drives the belts in the conveyor. The M107 is a stepper motor, and is controlled by the stepper motor driver board
QPW-973.

2. Technical Explanation
Detecting Jams
In order to detect a booklet being moved or a booklet left in the machine, the following booklet sensors are installed:
Infeed section
• Infeed section booklet sensor (PI01)
Transport section
• Vertical transport section entrance booklet sensor (PI10)
• Vertical transport section exit booklet sensor (PI07)
Trim section
• Stopper booklet sensor (PI08)
Conveyor section
• Sub tray sensor (PS112)
In case that the sub tray is pulled out, it sends the "full" signal to the host machine when the specific number of booklets are
piled after this sensor detects a booklet.

The trimmer controller PCB QPM-324 judges a jam if the booklet is detected by each sensor at the incorrect timing. When the
trimmer controller PCB QPM-324 judges a jam, the fore-edge trimmer stops running and sends the jam information to the host
machine.
After the jammed booklet is cleared and all the covers are closed, the fore-edge trimmer goes to an idling run mode and checks
to see whether the sensors still detect the booklet. If the sensors do not detect any booklet, the fore-edge trimmer judges this as
a complete recovery and sends the revised jam information to the host machine.

Skewed Trimming
1. When the power switch is turned off, do the top-bottom guides in the infeed section move smoothly by hand?
No: Wipe off the lubricating oil remained on the slide shaft. And then apply SUPER LUBE lubricating oil on the slide shaft.
“The top-bottom jog guides in the infeed section do not move smoothly.” on page 109
2. When the top-bottom guides jog the booklet in the infeed section, is there clearance between the top-bottom guides and the
booklet?
YES: In the service mode, calibrate the home position of the top-bottom guides. “Home Position Calibration” on page 97
3. Is the stopper in the trim section bent or damaged?
YES: Replace the stopper.
NO: Adjust the angle of the stopper. “Stopper Angle Adjustment” on page 104
3. Then, slowly turn the screw [2] clockwise until the screw [2] touches the Upper Blade [3], and further turn it 90
degrees clockwise. The screw should be now protruding 0.25 mm.
4. Under this condition, tighten the Lock Nut [1]. When tightening the Lock Nut [1], be sure to secure the screw [2] with
a wrench to prevent the screw [2] from turning together. “Upper Knife Assembly and Lower Knife” on page 58

The transport hook in the infeed section does not move smoothly.
When the transport hook does not move smoothly, the booklets are not transported to the trim section and left on the infeed
section. This can cause a jam. When the transport hook does not move smoothly, wipe off the lubricating oil remained on the
slide shaft, and then apply SUPER LUBE lubricating oil on the slide shaft for the transport hook.
